Chapter 563: The Allowed Multiple Wives
Yukinoshita and Himekoji walked out of the ward office chatting and laughing. Yuigahama tried to stop her tears, but couldn’t manage it just yet.
Her shoulders shook with sobs. The more she wiped at her eyes, the more tears flowed.
“Honestly,” Hikigaya sighed. She pushed Yuigahama and pressed her against the wall.
It happened! The famous scene! A Kabedon! One girl pinning another girl to the wall out of nowhere!
“Eh? H-h-h-hikki?!” Yuigahama exclaimed through her trembling sobs. Tears slid down her cheeks and hit the ground. They burst like fireworks, then scattered like broken moonlight.
Hikigaya stepped on the wet spot, grinding the tears into the pavement. She lowered her voice, sounding impatient.
“Hurry up. Don’t you know how embarrassing this is? If you can’t stop crying, then don’t let them fall in the first place.”
“I… I…” Yuigahama stammered weakly, full of hurt feelings.
At that moment, Yukinoshita’s voice carried over, a trace of surprise in it as she got closer. “Um, you two…”
“Yuigahama got sand in her eye. I’m blowing it out for her,” Hikigaya lied easily.
Her body effectively blocked Yuigahama’s crying face from the others’ view.
“Oh?” Himekoji copied her. He stepped forward to stand beside Yukinoshita, shielding her. He seemed to check the wind direction before saying, “The wind is pretty strong. But it’s okay. I’ll shield Yukino properly. I won’t let any sand reach her.”
“This isn’t the time to be worried about me!” Yukinoshita rolled her eyes, half exasperated, half amused. She gently tapped Himekoji. “Show some concern for Yuigahama!”
“I was just about to,” Himekoji said. It seemed he didn’t think sand in the eye was a big deal. Plus, he was still feeling light-headed after they’d just registered their marriage. He turned to Yuigahama. “Are you alright?”
“She’s fine,” Hikigaya answered for Yuigahama.
She pulled out tissues and wiped away Yuigahama’s tears. Because Hikigaya shielded her so completely, Yukinoshita and Himekoji didn’t notice Yuigahama had been crying.
“Yuigahama, look, it’s the wedding commemoration bracelet,” Yukinoshita said, sharing her joy. She held out her pale wrist to show Yuigahama. The silver-plated bracelet gleamed softly like starlight under the moon.
“I’m so jealous,” Yuigahama murmured honestly. She looked down.
Hikigaya chose that moment to butt in, teasing lightly. “Oh right. While waiting for you guys outside earlier, Yuigahama said she wants to be a Dowry.”
Himekoji believed it and laughed. “Sounds just like Yuigahama! Getting the Maid of Honor and the Dowry mixed up! Hahaha!”
Yukinoshita chuckled too, covering her mouth, her eyes curved in amusement.
Unexpectedly, Hikigaya spoke up at that moment, defending Yuigahama indignantly. “Hey! That’s underestimating her! Even if Yuigahama’s dumb, she’s not dumb enough to not know the difference between those two words!”
After being interrupted several times, Yuigahama had mostly pulled herself together by now. She raised her hand, confused. “No? What is the difference between Maid of Honor and Dowry?”
Yuigahama delivered a harsh blow to her teammate. Too bad Hikigaya had just firmly taken her side…
“So you really don’t know?!” Hikigaya’s mouth twitched. She felt the hopelessness of carrying a weak teammate. She decided to just lay it bare.
She turned straight to Yukinoshita. “Yukinoshita. The point is, Yuigahama wants to be your Dowry! Are you going to agree or not? I see you still have several blank Wife Registration Forms in your hand, don’t you?”
“Eh?!”
Yuigahama and Himekoji gasped aloud.
Yukinoshita, however, looked prepared.
Himekoji felt his heart beat uncomfortably fast. He took several deep breaths before calming down.
Thinking about it, the “World Reset” really seemed to be working properly!
The setting for multiple wives was already taking root?
It felt unreal, like a dream, yet it was unfolding right before his eyes.
Yukinoshita pulled two forms from her stack and held them out to Hikigaya.
“Here.”
Her voice was casual and unbothered. It was as if she wasn’t sharing her husband, but something like cookies, black tea, or hot cocoa – things meant to be shared and enjoyed together to become even more delicious.
“I sort of… wish you’d hesitated a bit more,” Himekoji whispered weakly, tugging Yukinoshita’s sleeve. He was clearly trying to act modest after getting what he wanted.
With multiple wives legalized, was a bigger harem actually better?
Did he like Yuigahama? Did he like Hikigaya?
Himekoji’s mind overflowed with questions like these.
“Oh? Then I’ll take them back,” Yukinoshita pretended to change her mind.
“Eh?!” Himekoji’s expression instantly shifted.
“See?” Yukinoshita sighed, somewhere between annoyed and amused. “I’m the one who wishes you could hesitate a bit more.”
Himekoji’s face flushed bright red with embarrassment.
“Fine. What exists is reasonable. Since this world allows multiple wives now, I won’t say anything more.” Yukinoshita always followed the rules. Her concept of absolute correctness was based strictly on the established framework.
Therefore, since a reset world included multiple wives as part of its rules, it naturally became ‘correct’ for her.
Besides, Yukinoshita could see Yuigahama liked Himekoji. And she liked Yuigahama very much. Her sincere wish was for the three of them to live together from now on.
As for Hikigaya… well, why not?
Filling the slots for multiple wives with people they knew well now might prevent Himekoji from bringing home any strange girls later.
This was the Reset World!
Himekoji looked relieved. Happy. At ease. Yet deep down, a stubborn sense of discomfort lingered.
However, compared to everyone’s smiling faces, that vague, complex feeling surely seemed negligible.
Himekoji thought so and forcibly pushed it aside.
…
“Why… are there two?” Hikigaya looked conflicted.
“You can be a Dowry too,” Yukinoshita said lightly, brushing the long hair away from her shoulder. Poised and generous, like an empress.
“No. I’m marrying Komachi!” Flustered, Hikigaya summoned her little sister to strengthen her resolve. “My dream is to be a lazy homebody – a dried-up woman! I want my little sister to take care of me for life!”
Yuigahama raised her hand eagerly. “Hikki! I can take care of you too if you become a useless layabout!”
“You?” Hikigaya glanced at Yuigahama, visibly skeptical. She shook her head. “You’re bragging now? First, can you even take care of yourself?”
“Of course I can!” Yuigahama lifted her chin defiantly.
“Whatever.” Hikigaya took one of the Wife Registration Forms and slapped it firmly against Yuigahama’s overly pronounced chest. “From now on, stick with Himekoji and let him take care of you!”
