Chapter 107: Old Sin City Only Has Ten Years Left to Live!
That afternoon, Rose and One-Eye stayed in their seats to watch the show, while Yan Jing took Mantou for a stroll around the Tower.
Before leaving, Yan Jing instructed Rose and One-Eye:
"Stay in your seats. If anything happens, look for Mr. Chengxin next to you. Remember, no talking to strangers. Do all that, and I'll bring you a surprise gift when I get back. Got it?"
"Ah— Ah—"
Though Yan Jing couldn't understand what Rose was saying, the loud smack of her thumping her chest suggested she was agreeing.
Yan Jing then led Mantou out of the main reception hall.
He figured whoever was hiding in the dark wouldn't make another move against Rose and One-Eye. After all, a fish wouldn't bite the same bait twice.
Still, it was better to be safe than sorry.
For the entire afternoon, Yan Jing took Mantou on a leisurely stroll through Sun-Swallowing Tower.
Aside from the first eight floors he had already visited, the two of them explored the sky restaurant on the ninth floor and the massage area on the tenth.
They didn't return until the evening banquet was about to begin, both in high spirits.
Entering the back kitchen, they prepared to make the Heavenly Fried Rice.
Old Master Liu and Chen Nian had been waiting in the back kitchen for some time. Ever since losing Man's Dignity to An Ze at noon, the two had been deeply depressed and hadn't gone anywhere all afternoon.
They only needed to provide one dish for the main table. Chen Nian had already returned to Rotten Vegetable Village to fetch the ingredients, so it was finished very quickly.
Yan Jing placed the plate at the serving station, pressed the service bell, and took off his chef's uniform.
The group returned to their round table from noon. Now, not only was An Ze there, but Lu Miao was as well.
Lu Miao had been specially invited by An Ze at Yan Jing's request. With her present, they should be able to eat dinner in peace.
"Your gifts."
Yan Jing placed the boxes he was carrying in the center of the table. "Open them later, after we eat."
Seeing Yan Jing act so mysteriously, everyone at the table exchanged glances, but said nothing as they quietly waited for the food.
Soon, exquisite delicacies were brought out by the waiters. Ranging from mountain game to seafood, a variety of bizarre, eerie ingredients filled the entire table.
However, just as everyone was about to start eating—
A figure walked onto the front stage.
It was a figure with an extremely high degree of mutation. Even at Yan Jing's current strength, a single glance caused a slight fluctuation in his mental state.
The figure possessed a pair of incredibly "slender" legs and wore no pants, leaving its dark red skin completely exposed like two bent bamboo poles.
Above those two legs was a massive, bloody mouth.
That's right—directly above the legs was a mouth.
An incomparably enormous mouth grew out of a bloody, meaty sphere of a head. It looked to be a full two or three meters wide, and every single sharp fang within it was the size of a grown man's fist, looking as though it could bite a Siberian tiger to death in a single crunch.
Thick, earthworm-like tendons ran across its fleshy lips. Further up sat a pair of exceptionally wide-set eyes.
As those two legs took a step, drops of saliva dripped from the fangs and hit the floor, sending up plumes of green smoke and burning small holes into the ground.
This entire appearance gave Yan Jing an extremely surreal feeling.
It was as if he had seen so many "abnormal people" in Old Sin City that suddenly seeing a "normal person" was hard to adjust to.
"Third Tier."
Old Master Liu said in a low voice, "This is a true expert."
"Where we come from, only those at the Third Tier and above are considered part of the ranks. Anyone below the Third Tier is unranked."
Chen Nian nodded as well.
"Those above the Third Tier are called the Transcendent Tier; that's what we say where we're from."
Beside them, Tiger leaned in.
"After the Third Tier, one can be considered an eerie entity."
"Mr. Giant Mouth is a true eerie entity, just like Mr. San was back then."
Yan Jing's heart stirred, and he took the opportunity to ask:
"What does 'Mr. San' look like?"
"I've never seen him."
Tiger said, "But Zebra mentioned that 'Mr. San' wears a cloak year-round, has tentacles for feet, and carries a birdcage. Boss Zebra has a portrait of him. Mr. Yi Ji, you can go find him later to take a look."
"Alright."
Yan Jing nodded and said no more.
Meanwhile, Giant Mouth on the stage slowly spoke up:
"Respected guests, hello everyone. Welcome, and thank you for gracing Sun-Swallowing Tower with your presence."
Its voice was extremely bizarre. It clearly looked as if it were speaking softly, but the volume was deafeningly loud, distorting its pitch so much that it sounded like an infant who had just learned to speak screaming at the top of its lungs.
"Hehe."
It suddenly began to laugh, making that enormous mouth look even more terrifying.
"This banquet is to celebrate the joyous marriage alliance between two of Sun-Swallowing Tower's steadfast allies: Dandelion Manor and Sleepland. Let us applaud them."
As its words fell, thunderous applause erupted throughout the reception hall.
Waiting for the applause to gradually die down, Mr. Giant Mouth suddenly shifted the topic.
"However."
"Aside from the joy of this marriage alliance, I believe everyone has heard that this banquet also serves as a very important 'meeting' for our Old Sin City."
"A meeting. Yes, I am willing to call it that."
"Because it will be the 'turning point' for our Old Sin City!"
"From here on out, our Old Sin City will enter a brand new beginning!"
Mr. Giant Mouth's voice steadily grew louder, so much so that everyone in the audience couldn't help but feel their scalps go numb.
"And the theme of this meeting is..."
"Returning home."
The moment those two words came out, the people in the audience looked at each other in dismay, having no idea what Mr. Giant Mouth was trying to say.
"Everyone should know that our Old Sin City cannot communicate with the outside world and severed all ties long ago."
"But this... was not what we wished for..."
"In truth, we were forced."
"Many years ago, our Old Sin City was also a Domain upon the Eerie Capital. At that time, it was not called Old Sin City; it was simply called Sin City. It was no different from any other major Domain. They were connected to one another, maintaining mutual contact. But..."
"For some reason, signs of extreme instability appeared in the space surrounding this Domain. Therefore, after a joint discussion among the leaders of this Domain, Sin City decided to begin a great migration."
"But the great migration was a long road. We needed to take this Domain with us and find a safe and stable location. Passing by other Domains along the way, we could even suffer attacks from their residents."
"Moreover, once the great migration began, it couldn't be stopped. Otherwise, if we halted before finding a suitable location for the Domain beneath our feet, we would become completely lost within the Unstable Domain."
"And soon, the great migration ran into a problem."
"The journey was too long. We found several places, but none were truly suitable locations."
"If things continued like that, the Domain might collapse before we even had a chance to settle down."
"It was then that the leaders of a section of the Domain within Sin City secretly convened and decided to abandon this Domain to search for a new one. And what they abandoned, aside from this Domain, was a portion of the people living on it."
"And those people."
"Were us!"
"'Envy', 'Wrath', 'desire', 'Greed'—they abandoned us! They took away the vast majority of the resources to seek out a new Domain, deciding to name that Domain 'New Sin City'!"
"No one knows whether they actually succeeded, and we, the abandoned, became completely lost within the Unstable Domain along with Old Sin City."
"Until several years ago, when I learned a piece of news."
"They really did succeed! They truly established a New Sin City!!!"
"We have completely faded into the past, destined to disappear into dust along with this forgotten land!!!"
"Furthermore, I received some tragic news."
Giant Mouth said, its words revealing a sorrow that was difficult to suppress:
"Our Old Sin City only has its final ten years left."
As those words fell, a massive uproar immediately broke out in the main reception hall!
Ten years!!!
Everyone had originally come here happily for a meal. In the end, before they had even eaten, they were being told that they had ten years to live at most?!
"Ten years?! Absolutely impossible!!!"
The one who spoke was Elder Honesty. He looked at Giant Mouth on the stage:
"Mr. Giant Mouth, do you have any proof to back up those words?"
"Proof? Hehe."
Giant Mouth let out a cold chuckle.
"Could it be that your Grand Elder didn't tell you that the Day of Arrival is approaching?"
