Chapter 420: Mr. Yan, I've Finally Met You (Two-in-One)
Chapter 420: Mr. Yan, I've Finally Met You (Two-in-One)
Zhou Kai stared at Yan Jing for a second or two, stunned, then suddenly laughed. He looked at Sheng Xia beside him. "I didn't expect you to have someone on your team who can't even suppress his weird energy fluctuations."
"Looking at it that way, I guess I'm pretty lucky."
Sheng Xia's expression didn't sour at Zhou Kai's mockery.
Of course, it didn't look particularly good either.
She simply stared blankly at Yan Jing, then suddenly flicked a speck of faint white light from her fingertip.
The glimmer appeared so abruptly it seemed to materialize out of thin air. Everyone's consciousness remained stuck in the moment before its appearance.
In other words, this wasn't an attack that could be dodged by simple reflexes.
But when the glimmer flashed in front of Yan Jing at terrifying speed, something unexpected happened.
Yan Jing reached out with two fingers and directly pinched the glimmer.
The light dissolved at a visible rate, unexpectedly merging right into his body.
Everyone watching with their eyes wide open was stunned.
Vice President Ye Liu, Zhou Kai, Sheng Xia, and Zhao Dongchuan all stared blankly at Yan Jing's fingertips.
They tried their best to dissect the scene with their gazes, looking for any trace that the glimmer still existed, but it had truly vanished.
Sheng Xia finally let out a soft breath. She looked at Zhou Kai with a complex gaze and spoke in a tone that was half-teasing, half-self-deprecating: "Do you still think he can't restrain his weird energy fluctuations?"
"How is that possible..."
Zhou Kai muttered, then strode directly toward Yan Jing. "Hey, kid, let me see what's going on."
He reached out, aggressively grabbing for Yan Jing's palm. But in the next instant, a tremendous force transmitted from his hand.
With a heavy smack, his hand was swatted away.
He grew even more astonished—not just because he felt Yan Jing's strength, but because Yan Jing actually dared to resist him.
"Interesting. Very interesting."
He turned his head to look at Sheng Xia and chuckled. "The guy you brought is quite interesting."
"Do you want me to help you teach him a lesson?"
Sheng Xia's eyes flickered. She actually somewhat hoped Zhou Kai would make a move. First, she could test Yan Jing's limits. Second, she could take the opportunity to complain about Zhou Kai to that person.
But before she could speak, Yan Jing's voice sounded again. "Miss Sheng, I'm a little confused. Aren't you guides? What do you mean by 'teaching me a lesson'?"
"Or are you not actually guides at all?"
Sheng Xia's and Zhou Kai's expressions changed simultaneously.
Zhou Kai's face completely darkened. "Kid, can't a guide teach you a lesson? Aren't you taking yourself a bit too seriously?"
"I see..." Yan Jing nodded, then looked at Sheng Xia. "Miss Sheng, if someone attacks a guide, wouldn't that be a violation of the rules? In that case, I'd be able to go back, right?"
Sheng Xia's gaze shifted. She quickly walked to Zhou Kai's side and grabbed his shoulder. "Mr. Yan makes a good point. Zhou Kai, we are just guides after all."
She deliberately emphasized the word "guides," and the hand resting on Zhou Kai's shoulder pulsed faintly with weird energy.
Zhou Kai glanced at Sheng Xia in surprise, then simply shook off her hand and walked back.
As he passed Sheng Xia, he said coldly, "If this kid is still alive when the seed ranking battle starts, try stopping me then."
Then he walked straight down from the rooftop without staying a moment longer.
Sheng Xia frowned. No one had expected things to develop like this.
She looked at the smiling Yan Jing, knowing he had definitely done it on purpose.
She wanted to say something, but after opening her mouth, she could only swallow her dissatisfaction.
The feeling was incredibly stifling. She wanted to issue a few warnings but simply couldn't find a reason to.
Finally, she could only say, "Mr. Yan, please be a bit more mindful of your impact..."
"Thank you for the reminder, Miss Sheng. I've always been mindful," Yan Jing replied with a smile, making Sheng Xia feel even more stifled.
Yan Jing then ignored Sheng Xia and walked toward the Vice President standing nearby.
"Vice President Ye, I wonder if I could borrow the later chapters of your heart method again? I feel quite an affinity with it; perhaps I might gain some insights."
Ye Liu returned his smile. "This journey is only the trial phase. If you sign the contract in the end, Xiao Yan, we will naturally open up the subsequent chapters."
"Or..."
Ye Liu didn't finish her sentence, but the implication was self-evident. Xu Qiao'er hadn't tagged along today, but Ye Liu was still eyeing the golden bachelor in front of her, especially after what had just happened.
Her beautiful eyes fluttered as she looked Yan Jing up and down.
"I did spend sixty million..."
Yan Jing smiled.
"After all, you were the one who made the first move, Xiao Yan..."
"That was in the Inner World."
Yan Jing still responded with a smile.
"Aunt Ye is very happy that you're so generous, Xiao Yan."
Ye Liu had completely abandoned her usual dignity, taking shamelessness to its absolute extreme.
"Alright, since that's the case."
Yan Jing smiled. "Then let's step aside and talk privately, Aunt Ye. We can have a proper discussion about what you're hoping for."
After saying that, Yan Jing smilingly invited Ye Liu downstairs.
A look of joy flashed across Ye Liu's face.
Soon, the two walked downstairs and arrived at a corner of the staircase.
"Have you figured it out, Xiao Yan?" Ye Liu was slightly excited, almost failing to maintain the reserved demeanor of an elder.
"Yes, I've figured it out."
Yan Jing nodded, then raised a hand and snapped his fingers.
In Ye Liu's horrified eyes, the space around them began to slowly collapse and shatter. In an instant, they seemed plunged into a boundless darkness with no exit in sight.
"This is..."
Ye Liu's pupils shrank in disbelief. The next instant, six rays of light suddenly bloomed behind her.
"I figured it out, Aunt Ye."
Yan Jing still wore a smile. "It's better to keep things simple. A beating is still necessary."
"Don't make a mistake, Xiao Yan," Ye Liu said darkly. "I know your strength is quite good, but I've been in the Sixth Tier for many years, just one step away from stepping into the Seventh Rank. I can understand that you want the heart method, and we can still discuss—"
But a split second later, her voice abruptly stopped, her pupils quaking.
Six rays of light similarly lit up behind Yan Jing. He smiled faintly. "Vice President Ye, it seems you still don't understand what I'm here for."
"I never planned on compromising. I intended to fight my way through from the start. Shedding blood or whatever else, I don't care at all."
"It's just that I've had a lot of annoying things on my mind lately... I wanted to clear my head, so I didn't want to cause trouble."
Pausing, he let out a sigh. The sound echoed into Ye Liu's mind like a nightmare. "You shouldn't have bargained..."
"What did those two go off to do..."
Sheng Xia was a bit confused. Yan Jing's final smile had given her a bad premonition. She wanted to follow and check on them, but it ultimately felt inappropriate.
She could only secretly use her weird energy to sense them.
However, she found nothing.
It was as if the two of them had vanished into thin air.
At first, she thought it was because her weird energy fluctuations were too weak, but even after she gradually increased them, the result remained the same. In the end, she could only give up.
Just as she was deeply perplexed, the sound of footsteps suddenly rang out behind her. She turned her head and saw Yan Jing linking arms with Ye Liu, slowly walking up from downstairs.
"Vice President Ye, are you alright?"
She noticed Ye Liu's face was a bit flushed and her hair was messy, yet her eyes seemed exceptionally hollow. Her entire body couldn't stop trembling.
"Vice President Ye and I had a very pleasant conversation. There's no need to worry, Miss Sheng."
Yan Jing smiled as he looked at Ye Liu beside him. "Right, Vice President Ye?"
Ye Liu flinched violently, then hurriedly nodded. "Yes... Right, yes, yes..."
"Um... As for the heart method, I—I'll give it to you later, Xiao Yan. I'm a bit tired today, so I'll go back and rest first."
Even though it was a declarative sentence, Sheng Xia heard a questioning tone from Ye Liu's mouth.
Especially the look Ye Liu gave Yan Jing—it felt exceptionally familiar to Sheng Xia, because those who had once lost to her had all looked at her with that exact same gaze.
That was a profound, bone-deep fear.
And what was even more unexpected was that Yan Jing actually rejected Ye Liu's proposal. "Aunt Ye, let's get the heart method first."
Sheng Xia saw Ye Liu flinch violently again after Yan Jing spoke.
"Alright, alright, here you go..."
Ye Liu shoved a dilapidated book into Yan Jing's arms, then squeezed out a smile that looked worse than crying. "Xiao Yan, Aunt Ye was wrong before. Just treat it as protecting the elderly and let Aunt Ye go, alright?"
These words made Sheng Xia's eyes widen. She couldn't imagine what on earth had happened in those brief few minutes to make this rumored next-generation successor of the Precognition Society so terrified, to the point of not hesitating to hand over her organization's foundation.
"Of course, Aunt Ye."
Yan Jing sensed the heart method in his hands. After confirming it was authentic, he smilingly released his grip on Ye Liu's arm.
"If you wish for me to meet with the President of the Precognition Society, please feel free."
Amidst Yan Jing's subtle words, Ye Liu hurriedly fled.
Even without Yan Jing's threat, the thought of finding the Precognition Society's President for revenge never once appeared in her mind.
Simply because those short few minutes in that space just now had made her realize that the man before her possessed the strength to instantly annihilate the entire Precognition Society.
Even though over ten minutes had passed, thinking back to the scene from earlier still sent a chill through her entire body.
If Yan Jing hadn't stepped in to heal her at the end, she would no longer possess any shape resembling a human.
Terrifying. Too terrifying...
She clearly remembered that just over a month ago, Yan Jing was only transitioning from the Fourth Tier to the Fifth Tier. How long had it been since then?
And she had actually dared to try and extort a guy like this?!
Thinking of this, her legs gave out, and she nearly tumbled down the stairs.
On the rooftop.
Yan Jing found a corner and read his newly acquired spoils with great interest.
This was indeed a fine heart method. It had created a titan, allowing the Precognition Society to dominate the Fourth Ring Domain for nearly two hundred years.
Yan Jing had come into contact with quite a few Ancient Relics by now. From his perspective, even in that distant era, this book was absolutely no ordinary item. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been able to withstand the corruption from the Source of Mutation.
Unfortunately, only fragments remained now.
Looking at the original index, the book had a total of seven volumes, but now only four were left.
"Four volumes isn't bad either..."
Yan Jing opened his eyes and plunged straight into reading, striving to make up for yesterday's losses.
In the distance, Sheng Xia's mind was full of doubts, but she couldn't get any answers, making the usually calm woman appear somewhat agitated.
She looked at Yan Jing, who was sitting on the ground immersed in the book, forcibly suppressing the urgency in her heart as she waited.
"Brother Yan is a pretty good person, right?"
Zhao Dongchuan's voice came from the side. Only then did Sheng Xia realize there was still someone else nearby.
"Pretty good..."
She couldn't bring herself to agree.
She had a strong sense of curiosity, so she hated people she couldn't see through. The Yan Jing before her was clearly such a person.
"Miss Sheng will understand later."
Zhao Dongchuan smiled. "In the upcoming seed ranking battle, I'm very much looking forward to a match against Miss Sheng and Mr. Zhou."
Sheng Xia's gaze darkened at Zhao Dongchuan's provocative words, and a chill spread around her.
She already felt a stifling burst of anger with nowhere to vent today. Now, hearing Zhao Dongchuan's words, she finally couldn't hold it in anymore.
That person hadn't instructed her that she needed to keep secrets from people outside of this mission.
"Mr. Zhao, do you know who I am?"
She looked at Zhao Dongchuan, her tone freezing cold.
"Of course."
Zhao Dongchuan smiled. "Although you don't show yourselves often, legends about you are everywhere outside."
"Then do you still have the confidence to speak of a so-called match against us?"
Sheng Xia sneered.
Although she wasn't as aggressively flamboyant as Zhou Kai, it didn't mean she lacked an edge.
A heavenly prodigy like her couldn't possibly back down at every turn and lack even the slightest bit of pride.
"We'll see the truth when the time comes."
Zhao Dongchuan smiled and waved his hand. "I'll excuse myself first. I still have a Dungeon to run today."
After saying that, he turned and headed downstairs.
Sheng Xia said coldly, "Don't you need to say goodbye to him?"
"No need. Brother Yan knows."
Zhao Dongchuan didn't turn around, simply smiling faintly.
Yan Jing naturally knew.
Because in a sense, this Dungeon belonged to Yan Jing.
He walked to the stairwell, watched the countdown before his eyes slowly hit zero, and vanished from the spot.
Yan Jing slowly opened his eyes.
An incredibly gentle white light radiated from his body.
He checked the time; it had taken an hour, which wasn't too long.
In front of him, the others were still completely engrossed in learning the first volume, showing no signs of waking up.
In the distance, Sheng Xia stood alone with her arms crossed, looking somewhat angry from her demeanor.
"Finished learning? Mr. Yan."
Yan Jing nodded. "As expected of the Precognition Society's treasure. I benefited greatly."
"This kind of boost to intuition isn't just useful in combat; it has many other wonderful applications."
"The second volume is indeed worth learning. Your comprehension is very high, Mr. Yan. Many people need a full half-day to learn the second volume," Sheng Xia sneered. "But offending the entire Precognition Society over a volume of a heart method is hardly a wise move."
"Sometimes, you still need to learn to show restraint."
"The second volume, huh..." Yan Jing chuckled, not bothering to explain.
The two of them simply waited like this for the others to gradually wake up.
By the time the final person awoke, it was already two in the afternoon.
"Miss Sheng, why are you the only one left?"
Xie Lingling was the last to wake up. At this moment, she felt a bit embarrassed, thinking she had dragged down their progress.
"Some things happened."
Sheng Xia didn't explain further, simply calling everyone to get ready to go eat.
But right at this moment, everyone's gazes simultaneously hardened. They looked toward the stairwell leading to the rooftop, sensing an unusually powerful aura approaching.
'They're here.'
Sheng Xia thought to herself.
The Precognition Society would absolutely never allow their inherited treasure to fall into someone else's hands. Even if it was just a loan, Yan Jing's actions had clearly gone far over the line.
Several figures slowly stepped out from the stairwell.
Vice President Ye Liu stood on the left. She was currently wearing a long red robe that covered most of her face, revealing only her mouth and eyes.
On the corresponding right side stood another person dressed in a similar fashion.
Standing between the two was a figure a full head taller than them. The robe enveloping this person was comparatively much more elaborate and closer to crimson. The trailing hem stretched a full meter or two long, a truly magnificent and imposing sight.
What was even more eye-catching was the aura radiating from her.
It was an aura that absolutely towered over everyone present, domineering and sharp. Every single person on the rooftop felt a faint prickling sensation on their skin.
The President of the Precognition Society, a Seventh Rank powerhouse: Zhao Qianling.
"Sigh..."
Sheng Xia sighed inwardly. If this President really made a move, she would have no choice but to try and stop her.
After all, it was the mission assigned by that person.
At worst, she'd just let that guy suffer a little, and that would be the end of it.
But just as her imagination ran wild, in the very next second, that President took a step forward, walked right up to Yan Jing, and grasped his hand. "Mr. Yan, I've finally met you."
