Chapter 618: The First Battle

A longsword pierced his neck, and for a moment, blood splattered everywhere.

The room was quiet enough to hear the blood squeezing out of his vessels.

It sounded like an aging sewer pipe suddenly surging with water.

Yan Jing, Lu Miao, and the Son of Chaos watched the scene with calm expressions, as if the man dying before them wasn't a Tenth Tier expert capable of dominating an entire region outside.

But merely a rat.

In truth, a ruptured blood vessel in the neck was hardly a fatal wound for a Tenth Tier expert.

But a second later, a far more terrifying mutation occurred.

The blood gushing from his body hardened into new swords, plunging straight back into his head.

Then his chest, his palms, his lungs...

Until the man finally stopped moving completely.

The Son of Chaos looked at Yan Jing.

"Mop the floor."

Yan Jing remained expressionless.

"If you want something done, do it yourself. Didn't your parents ever teach you that?"

At those words, the hand Lu Miao used to hold her newspaper trembled imperceptibly.

Even after all this time, he hadn't changed at all. He always knew exactly what to say to strike where it hurt most.

Strictly speaking, existences born of Chaos didn't have parents.

But the problem was...

The person across from him this time was clearly no ordinary entity.

Lu Miao took a deep breath and readied herself for a fight.

Yet to her surprise, the Son of Chaos simply glanced at Yan Jing and chose not to attack.

"Forget it. Don't waste my time."

The Son of Chaos muttered under his breath, sitting down at the workstation diagonally across from Yan Jing and picking up a document.

No one knew what was truly going through his mind.

They waited another ten minutes or so before a figure finally stepped inside.

It was the man from the Life Heavenly Kingdom whose arm had been severed by Mao Si earlier.

Upon seeing the Son of Chaos, the man's first reaction was to turn and flee.

But catching sight of the blood on the floor and the tragically dead man from the Immortal Anomaly, he forcefully halted to avoid following in the man's footsteps. "Are you joining the game?"

Lu Miao set down her document and looked at the newcomer.

"I'm joining."

The man's tone wavered slightly, but he managed to keep himself from trembling.

Taking a deep breath, he covertly manipulated his muscles to squeeze open a small fissure near his heart.

He released a pheromone signal that only those within the Life Heavenly Kingdom could detect.

After doing so, he glanced at the Son of Chaos. Seeing no reaction, he breathed a secret sigh of relief.

"I will now introduce the rules of the game,"

Lu Miao said coldly.

"The rules are very simple."

"Whoever grabs the official document manual and hands it to me first, wins."

Lu Miao pointed toward the workstation in the very center of the room.

On that desk rested two neat stacks of official documents.

Resting right on top of one stack was a file labeled "Order Administration Bureau Official Document Manual".

The rules sounded incredibly simple indeed.

But as her words fell, the expected scene of all three scrambling for it didn't occur.

All three of them stood frozen in place.

No one moved.

The Son of Chaos looked at the man from the Life Heavenly Kingdom beside him.

It made perfect sense why this guy wasn't moving—he wanted him to win.

Only if he won effortlessly would the man have a chance to survive.

As for fighting him for the voucher, that would be pure suicide.

And it wasn't hard to understand why he himself hadn't moved either.

Because he had no intention of snatching that document.

As long as he killed the other two, that document would belong to him one hundred percent.

But...

He turned his head to look at Yan Jing next to him.

He couldn't fathom what this human was thinking at all.

No, to be more precise:

He couldn't see through this human.

That was why he hadn't attacked earlier.

Yan Jing kept his head down, reading the document in his hands, seemingly sensing the Son of Chaos staring at him.

He looked up, flashed the Son of Chaos a smile, and lowered his head to continue reading. When he finished one document, he swapped it for the next and kept going. The Son of Chaos's face darkened.

In his eyes, this was outright provocation.

Forget it.

He was done playing games.

He reached out and tapped the air to his left and right.

On his right, the man from the Life Heavenly Kingdom—who had been on guard the whole time—instantly activated the Giant Race Genetic Potion within his body. His sole remaining arm swelled to a massive size, acting as a giant shield to protect his front.

But suddenly, panic flashed across his face. A second later, as if entirely out of his control, the gigantic arm swung back and smashed straight into his own head.

With a heavy thud, several deep gashes split open on his head, sending blood pouring to the floor. His entire face turned a bruised purple as dense clusters of blood vessels bulged beneath his skin. The Son of Chaos remained expressionless.

Killing ordinary Tenth Tier experts was as natural as eating and drinking to him; sometimes, even lifting a finger felt like too much effort.

If the Chaos faction hadn't been worried that he would be instantly obliterated by a Demigod Realm existence for showing his face carelessly—insisting he fully master the Chaos Seed before entering the world—he would have made a name for himself long ago.

Suddenly, his brow twitched, and he whipped his head around to look at Yan Jing.

Yet he saw Yan Jing leisurely reading the document in his hands, acting as if nothing had happened.

The Son of Chaos frowned.

His attack had seemed simple, but he had actually utilized a trump card, planting a Chaos Seed in both of them.

But the reaction of this human beside him was completely abnormal.

He could sense the chaotic fluctuations already emerging within the man's body, but...

It was extremely weak.

It was nowhere near the full effect of the Chaos Seed.

He could only assume the other party had some method to dampen mental interference.

Because the human had watched him kill that guy from the Immortal Anomaly earlier.

So he had taken precautions in advance.

Should he continue attacking?

For the first time in his life, the Son of Chaos hesitated in the middle of a battle.

Not because his opponent was too strong, but because his opponent was just too weird.

After a brief moment of indecision, he dashed toward the center workstation.

Caught between securing the game and taking a gamble, he ultimately chose to win the game.

In an instant, he snatched the item and returned to his original seat.

"Here."

He placed the official document manual into Lu Miao's hands.

"Announce the result."

Lu Miao looked at the official document manual in her hands, nodded, and spoke:

"The winner is..."

"Him."

Lu Miao pointed at Yan Jing.

The Son of Chaos's pupils shrank violently.

"How is that possible?"

His eyes turned bloodshot in a flash. He glared at Lu Miao, his killing intent chilling:

"You two colluded."

"He genuinely submitted the official document manual before you did,"

Lu Miao said calmly. She raised her right hand, revealing another official document manual resting on her palm.

The Son of Chaos stared blankly, then turned to look at Yan Jing.

Yan Jing raised his hands innocently.

"It was right here where I'm sitting, the third book down from the top of the stack."

"She..."

The Son of Chaos looked back at Lu Miao, stunned again.

Thinking carefully about it, Lu Miao indeed hadn't specified which official document manual.

Realizing this, the Son of Chaos completely lost his temper.

Murderous intent surged around him as he glared at Lu Miao and Yan Jing.

"You're fucking messing with me."

"These are the rules of this place, sir. You need to adapt to them."

Lu Miao spoke, though these weren't words she had wanted to say.

It was a requirement for role-playing the NPC.

Her role demanded that she deliver this exact line once the game ended.

The Son of Chaos paused. He felt like he had heard this sentence before.

At the end of his last game, the administrator had told him something incredibly similar.

But since he hadn't obeyed any rules to begin with, he hadn't noticed anything odd.

Now that the phrase appeared again, it caught his attention.

Of course, taking note was one thing. Looking at Yan Jing, he still prepared to attack.

Killing his opponent would allow him to randomly obtain one of their vouchers.

And the man should only have the voucher from this specific game.

Meaning, as long as he killed him, he would still be the actual victor of this game.

Weird energy erupted violently around the Son of Chaos.

The man from the Life Heavenly Kingdom, who had been lying on the floor repeatedly pummeling himself, suddenly paused. A second later, his sole remaining arm clamped tightly around his own throat.

His weird energy also surged as he tried to rely on his transformation to resist the assault. However, astonishment soon flashed across his face. The bulging muscles that were meant to be his strongest weapon began churning, crushing inward against his internal organs.

"Pfft..."

He threw up a massive mouthful of blood and collapsed completely onto the floor, his body twitching uncontrollably.

It looked like he wasn't going to survive.

Without sparing the man from the Life Heavenly Kingdom a single glance, the Son of Chaos charged straight at Yan Jing.

He clenched both hands into fists, manifesting patches of chaotic colors across his knuckles, and smashed them directly toward Yan Jing's chest.

Yan Jing remained unfazed. In the next instant, he raised his hand.

A rushing sound echoed, like ocean tides crashing ashore, as streams of blood-red liquid furiously gushed out of the two men lying on the floor, rushing right at the Son of Chaos.

Bang!

The blood morphed, taking on the appearances of the two men. Driven by surging weird energy, their power wasn't the slightest bit inferior to the attacks the men had unleashed while alive.

A gigantic fist and a barrage of longswords collided with the Son of Chaos's arms simultaneously.

Hummm—

A series of deep hums erupted between them.

In the end, the Son of Chaos finally gained the upper hand.

His physical methods were equally tyrannical, constantly repelling the massive fist and the flying swords.

But...

The Son of Chaos looked up, only to realize that, at some unknown point, the space above him had been blanketed by pitch-black long thorns.

The thorns plummeted down like shooting stars.

At the critical moment, the jewel-like stone on the Son of Chaos's forehead lit up, sending out streams of chaotic colors.

Upon being tainted by the chaotic colors, the long thorns spun out of control and flew off in different directions.

Lu Miao's expression changed slightly. She manifested long blades in her hands to block the deflected thorns, but a second later, a hand reached out, grabbed the back of her collar, and dragged her straight out of the administration bureau.

Yanking Lu Miao backward, Yan Jing remained calm.

He didn't think Lu Miao could block his current Fear Thorns.

This guy was quite interesting.

He originally thought the enemy could only influence opponents by scrambling their consciousness.

Whether it was making the man from the Life Heavenly Kingdom punch himself or directing the flying swords toward the man from the Immortal Anomaly, it all fundamentally boiled down to chaotic consciousness. Their minds hijacked their actions, leading them to attack themselves.

But...

He was absolutely certain that he hadn't been affected while using the State of Stone.

Yet those Fear Thorns had still slipped from his control.

This proved that the jewel on his opponent's forehead could accomplish things that truly belonged to the realm of "Chaos."

Interesting.

Yan Jing focused his mind, tossed Lu Miao behind him, and met the Son of Chaos charging out of the Order Management Bureau head-on.

Smash!

The two locked hands, their ten fingers intertwining.

"You're courting death."

The Son of Chaos flashed a sinister grin, the veins on his forehead bulging.

He had achieved his goal.

He had intimidated his opponent into fighting him in close-quarters combat.

Though he appeared to rely on Chaos abilities to fight, when it came to physical brawling, he was equally confident that he wouldn't lose to anyone.

Facing the Son of Chaos's threat, Yan Jing smiled.

"Let's hope so."

The next second.

The Son of Chaos's expression drastically changed. His entire body launched off the ground and rocketed into the sky, only to plummet back down under a colossal force, slamming into the earth. The terrifying impact instantly sent a shockwave of distorted space rippling outward.

Hum—

All the surrounding buildings began trembling violently. Fortunately, an invisible curtain of light surfaced at the final moment, barely managing to stabilize the skyscrapers. But before the light curtain could fade away, Yan Jing dashed forward, clasped his hands together, and hammered them down fiercely.

Boom!

At the critical moment, the jewel on the Son of Chaos's forehead lit up once again.

Rainbow-colored clouds materialized.

Yan Jing felt a bizarre energy seep out from the mist and pour into his body.

A second later, he clearly sensed every inch of his muscles slowly escaping his control.

They weren't resisting; they were being pushed by some invisible turbulence, attempting to rebound his downward smashing force right back onto himself.

Yan Jing's gaze darkened.

This was his body.

In the next instant, he commanded the rest of his undisturbed muscles to smash downward with even greater strength.

The uncontrolled muscles forced the hijacked muscles to barrel toward the Son of Chaos below.

And...

The force was even more terrifying.

"Ah—!"

The Son of Chaos's eyes nearly split open, and the jewel on his forehead erupted with blinding brilliance.

Blood poured wildly from his eyes, nose, and ears.

Clearly, wielding this power had already exceeded his limits.

The jewel gleamed to its absolute peak, flooding Yan Jing's body with even more formless power.

Holding his breath and steadying his mind, Yan Jing marshaled every ounce of strength in his body.

The sheer terror of the force caused the surrounding space to instantly cave in.

A sliver of horror finally surfaced in the Son of Chaos's eyes.

He hadn't expected his opponent's physical body to be this monstrously strong.

Not even the mightiest physical fighter in Chaos could reach such a level.

He could foresee his own fate if this strike landed, so he squeezed every last drop of power out of his forehead jewel with desperate fervor.

An overwhelming desire to live triggered an explosion of potential far beyond his peak.

Veins bulged across his face as bright red blood rushed into the jewel on his brow.

"Argh!!!!"

His body was racked with excruciating agony, his very origin weakening.

But it was all worth it.

The Chaos power completely flooded into Yan Jing's body.

Urgent joy erupted in the Son of Chaos's eyes.

His opponent had used such terrifying strength; once the backlash hit, the results were easy to imagine.

But... a second later.

Yan Jing extended a finger and gave a light tap.

Under the Son of Chaos's horrified gaze, the jewel suddenly dimmed. The surging Chaos power vanished without a trace.

Though the dimming only lasted for a split second.

But...

It was more than enough to sway the battle.

BOOM!!!!

The horrifying fist crashed down.

The earth quaked, and space shattered.

Endless dust and debris billowed up from the ground, obscuring the clouds in the sky and turning the already gloomy atmosphere pitch black.

In the suffocating gloom, the Son of Chaos—now left with only half of his body—fled into the distance like a madman.
