Chapter 113: The Guest

Chapter 113: The Guest

Northland City was now a huge construction site. The redesigned city had too many things that needed handling. Even though Bran used a way of sharing power to let Earl and others deal with these matters, many things still needed him to look over personally.

Earl’s group and Bran were still in the period of getting used to each other. Bran didn’t know their real abilities, and they didn’t know Bran’s character. About Bran sharing power, they felt more unease. Because behind the power came matching responsibilities, and now the effect of the killings hadn’t faded, and people’s hearts were still unsteady. No one dared to bravely take responsibility at this time. So they all took the approach of being careful to avoid big mistakes, reporting big and small matters first.

Bran had no way to handle this now. Such things could only improve slowly. After all, these people weren’t trying to delay; they just wanted to protect themselves. This life of being asked questions every day annoyed Bran. As a Wizard, he more wished to spend time exploring endless secrets to gain stronger power. This was his foundation for survival; everything else was just extras for a Wizard.

When excited Zoya entered Northland City, she was greeted by messy and noisy scenes, which made her frown a little. In her memory, Bran always hid in the splendid Mountain Villa, lying on the rocking chair, swaying back and forth. That was an image untouched by the real world, seeming out of place with the scene before her eyes.

When she was led into the City Manor, she saw Bran sitting under a tree at one glance. In front of him, a mature and pretty lady was respectfully asking him something. The inseparable Black Cat was squatting nearby, lazily yawning. Not far away, the tall female Warrior Danny flashed a smile at her and waved her hand over.

Zoya jogged close, showing a flattering smile. “Danny Sister.”

Watching Danny nod at her with some satisfaction made Zoya let out a soft breath. She was afraid of Danny. Actually, back then, all the children feared Danny. Even that pair of Dragon Knights were very respectful when facing Danny. Luckily, in the Mountain Villa, Danny didn’t show up easily. Though the children felt some fear, they didn’t have to face her all the time. But now? Zoya carefully looked at Danny’s expression. It was okay.

“What is he doing?” Zoya asked cautiously.

“Arranging work.” Then feeling it was too vague, Danny explained further, “You saw when you entered the city, little Bran is rebuilding this city.”

Zoya’s eyes lit up. “Preparing to make it like the Mountain Villa?”

Danny laughed, gently stroking Zoya’s head. “Maybe.”

At that moment, Bran ended the talk, stood up and walked over this way. He first said in a joking tone, “Danny, you better hide; you’ve scared her so much she’s about to wobble.”

Danny waited until Bran came close, reached out to tap Bran’s head, and then turned to leave. As Danny walked away, Zoya let out a long breath completely.

But Bran didn’t let her off. “Let me tell you a secret.”

“What secret?”

“A powerful Warrior’s sensing range is far broader than an ordinary person’s. So, your last move must have been noticed by Danny.”

“Ah!?” Then seeing Bran’s mischievous smile, she knew she’d been tricked. She raised her hand and punched Bran once.

While teasing the little girl, Bran wondered in his heart: Why is she here? If it was to show goodwill by offering a daughter, he wasn’t old enough to enjoy that gift yet. If she had other aims, Bran didn’t feel any strange emotions from Zoya. The unfamiliar feeling at first sight also disappeared with a few jokes.

Just when Bran felt baffled, Zoya said, “You’ve grown much taller.”

“Really? Never paid attention.”

“Truly. Did you miss me?”

“Almost forgot.” That sentence earned another light punch.

Back under the tree, Zoya imitated Bran’s way, sitting back against the big tree. Then she brought up the doubt she had since entering. “Why are you sitting here?”

“He needs my company.” Bran pointed at the big tree.

“You’re lying again!”

“By the way, where’s the Knight escorting you? I should thank him face-to-face for bringing such a pretty lady safely before me.”

This compliment made the little girl happy. She corrected first, “It’s her.”

Then she called in her Guardian Knight. When her Guardian Knight came in, Bran suddenly clapped his head as if suddenly realizing. He said to her, “Want to visit my new home?”

The sudden idea made Bran lose interest in teasing the little girl. He firmly sent Zoya away. Bran was currently cut off from the outside World, making him seem very passive when dealing with different parties. He thought about taking the initiative, but how to take the initiative in a strange World? He suddenly just thought: Zoya might be clueless, but someone sensible must have been arranged to look after her.

As Zoya left, Bran could clearly feel the Knight before him become alert. He spoke, “Relax, I just want to know about the outside. Tell me whatever you know about everything happening lately.”

Bran’s casual attitude made the visitor feel eased. She explained the recent events step by step. When she finished explaining, facing the faintly smiling Bran, she realized she made a mistake. An ordinary Knight shouldn’t know such things in such detail.

Seeing the person before him getting nervous, Bran smiled. “This City Manor isn’t small. Your little mistress won’t be back for a while. We have enough time to discuss other matters. For example, which side is the Hyde family preparing to lean toward? And which other Nobles are ready to show goodwill to the Anya Kingdom?

Look, last year many Nobles fled to the Northlands. Although I don’t know you all well, I think showing goodwill needs ongoing contact. But until now, I haven’t seen others come over. Oh, except for three causing trouble.

So obviously, even after killing some Anya People, it still couldn’t help those Nobles make up their minds. Looks like the Anya Kingdom is truly powerful. One or two failures clearly mean nothing.

Now you’ve come, just to see me?”

“Zoya truly just wanted to see you,” the Knight answered firmly.

“Yeah, I believe this little girl just wanted to see me. What about you?”

“My duty is to protect and guide Zoya.”

Bran pouted. “What a wise choice, wanting to stay neutral.”

This wasn’t good news for Bran. Since the Nobles chose to wait and see, Bran’s wish to use outside help to build quick ties with the outside couldn’t happen. And when he thought wishfully that Zoya’s family was leaning toward the Northlands, he got a disappointing answer.

But sending people over, whether to observe further or with other aims, at least opened the door for Bran to connect with the outside. For now, Bran felt no malice from these people, so he decided to stay friendly. When he had time, he’d cheer the little girl up. He needed to send a signal to the watching Nobles, a signal for friendly coexistence.
