Chapter 16: Conjecture
After his Awakening, Bran became a bit too excited, and this excitement made him get a little carried away. Now, lying bedridden, he finally calmed down and began to carefully experience the changes brought by Mana.
Bran thought about it. His ability after the Awakening seemed a bit too power ful, which did not quite match the situations recorded in the books. And he should not be that different from other people, whether physically or mentally. Coming from the same mother, Bran believed he wouldn’t have anything extraordinary compared to his siblings. If there was a mental difference, Bran believed whether this body could bear it would be a big problem, and he wouldn’t be alive and kicking. So the biggest difference was his understanding of this World, what he had experienced, what he had learned, and the final perception of the World he had formed. This was what made him different from others.
Perhaps it was precisely because of this difference in understanding that his ability after the Awakening far exceeded the recorded cases. Maybe the way to improve his ability should start with understanding this World. Ability was merely a tool. Daily practice was about mastering the tool skillfully, while understanding the World was about upgrading the tool.
Bran quietly recalled. The memories of his previous life seemed already too distant, the clear and the vague past, and finally being trapped in this World, in this small body. This World seemed no different from the original one; there was still wind blowing and snow falling. It was only after his ability’s Awakening that he truly realized these were two completely different Worlds.
After lying quietly in bed for several days, Bran finally got up. At this moment, Bran did not look like someone who had just recovered at all. During these days, he had thought of many things and tried many things. Ability was a completely new thing. Although the understanding from his previous life seemed to have strengthened his ability, he should not be bound by past knowledge. At this moment, Bran evenly spread his Mana around him. It had no fixed shape; it just naturally emanated all around, above his head, under his feet, in front and behind.
“How does it feel?” Danny asked with a concerned look.
“Wonderful.”
The emanating Mana was bounced away when it approached Danny’s body surface. The Mana flowed around Danny like water, leaving a human-shaped hollow there. This was another phenomenon Bran had discovered in recent days. Living individuals had an instinctive rejection towards external Mana caused by his ability. Even an ant, he could not permeate it with his Mana. And the only different one at the moment was the Black Cat Huahua that got up with Bran. He could even feel the Mana spreading outward through the black cat’s body without any hindrance, as if it were a node.
“Danny, come with me to the Storehouse.”
“Again? Rest a few more days.”
“I’m fine, Danny.”
“But Madam told me to keep an eye on you. Behave these days.”
“You are my Attendant who shares life and death with me. We are the ones on the same side.” Bran said with a playful grin. “And, I’m just going to take a look.”
“Promise?”
“Yes, I promise not to touch anything. Besides, with you watching beside me, how could I do anything?” Bran swore, patting his chest.
“I always feel like you are up to something.” Danny’s intuition told her the little rascal in front of her was not reliable.
“Really, I promise not to touch anything.” This time, Bran gave a firm promise.
…
Bran stood before the weapon rack, looking at the broken sword in front of him. Mana gently enveloped the blade. Now he could feel that the body of this broken sword had different layers: the edge, the body, the surface layer, the inner layer. What exquisite craftsmanship, Bran sighed in his heart. But this level of sensing was not enough. Bran stared intently at the sword body as if trying to see flowers blooming on it. A layer of fine sweat slowly seeped from his forehead.
Realizing something was wrong, Danny grabbed Bran and hauled the little liar who broke his promise out of the Storehouse, growling lowly, “You lied to me!”
The current limit of Bran’s Mana emission was only about three meters, so he could only watch helplessly as that broken sword disappeared from his sensing range. At the same time, he protested, “I really didn’t touch anything,” while waving his hands to strengthen his argument.
“Drop dead!” Danny firmly replied to Bran’s explanation.
