Chapter 170: Curiosity
Bran watched Jonah struggle and fall. He watched his body gradually cool and stiffen. A wave of spiritual fluctuation emerged from the corpse, filled with unwillingness, helplessness, and confusion. It lingered near the body, unwilling to leave.
An unusual Mana gathered towards this spiritual fluctuation here, like water poured into a mold. A faint, distorted human figure slowly appeared. But the Mana was still too thin, like light smoke blown into a bottle, constantly colliding with the bottle’s walls as the bottle shook, then scattering and gathering again.
The peculiar Mana had a gray texture, but after condensing, it seemed to gain color. As time passed, Jonah’s transparent figure appeared before his eyes.
He first looked down at his own body, his hands instinctively feeling over it. Then he looked at Bran with a complicated expression, as if he had a thousand things to say, but it all turned into a sigh in the end.
Bran carefully examined the newly born Dead before him, observing the strange Mana that made up his body. This Mana, after transforming into something tangible, lost all its original properties. It was no longer Mana, but a visible, tangible physical substance.
Bran reined in the naturally radiating Magic Field. He then reached out and grabbed towards Jonah, easily inserting his hand into Jonah’s body as if plunging it into cold water. Bran then pulled his hand out, watching as the body before him rippled once and then returned to normal.
Jonah just wanted to ask something, but then a blade light flashed. An ordinary-looking slash cut straight through his body. It did not cut him in two as one might imagine. It was like slicing through flowing water, raising a line of disturbance which then settled, leaving the water surface calm again.
The Magic Field slowly expanded, and Bran reached out his hand once more.
This time, Jonah felt afraid!
Instinct urged him to get away from Bran, but he found he couldn’t move at all. He watched helplessly as that hand slowly entered his body, then scooped out a part of it.
He felt a chill in his body, followed by unbearable, searing heat. Pain!
“No!” Jonah let out a scream.
But along with the scream, the blade light flashed again. Magic power surged on the blade, Starlight shimmered. Accompanied by heart-rending pain! His body was split in two from head to toe.
The two halves of the body swayed unsteadily for a moment before falling to the ground one after the other. From the severed area, light smoke slowly rose. The smoke gradually mingled, pulling the two halves back together.
Bran’s actions made Jonah begin to fear!
So, he started to beg for mercy. Then begging turned into cursing, cursing turned back into desperate pleas, until finally only trembling remained, weak trembling.
Now, he was utterly terrified!
Terrified of those eyes that constantly showed curiosity, bright, clear, without a trace of impurity. Only curiosity, deep curiosity.
He had once possessed such eyes himself, so he knew everything was just beginning…
Immortality? No! He only wished to die immediately!
…
Curiosity is human nature. Some people gain answers from curiosity, while others gain lessons.
Zoya and Eileen stood curiously beside the Ancient Tree, looking up at that strange and slightly ridiculous flowery face. Just a moment ago, while they were fighting fiercely, they had been plucked from the Training Ground by the Ancient Tree. They were about to protest when they remembered Bran was out.
So, they immediately corrected their attitudes and stood obediently before the Ancient Tree, putting on faces of curious babies.
“Bran has entrusted you to me.” The Ancient Tree’s voice echoed in the air over the City Manor, clearly heard by most of Northland City.
Huahua sat in the tree’s canopy. She extended a sharp fingernail and scratched a shallow mark on the branch beneath her. With Huahua’s action, the Ancient Tree fell silent. Two wills argued, negotiated silently, and finally compromised.
“You are too weak,” the Ancient Tree extended two vines and gently patted the girls’ heads. As they grimaced in pain, it continued, “But I have a way to make you strong!”
Zoya and Eileen immediately grew serious, their expressions becoming earnest and solemn. Curiosity was quickly replaced by anticipation.
“But this process is very dangerous and painful.”
Zoya and Eileen said in unison, “We are not afraid!”
The Ancient Tree excitedly shook its canopy. Several vines, out of excitement, twisted and tangled together.
“Then shall the training begin?”
“Yes!”
With the girls’ crisp replies, a palm-sized hornet’s nest was dropped at their feet…
…
Lily’s great fire not only ignited the Demon Clan’s camp but also set the grassland ablaze. The fire chased the panicked, fleeing Demon Clan, gradually becoming a raging inferno.
The walls of the Anya People were still crowded with onlookers. The wind carried a scorching heat, lifting the Northlanders’ banner high outside the city walls.
This solitary banner seemed to possess magic, constantly attracting everyone’s gaze. Even if they forced themselves to look away, after a while, their eyes would inevitably return there.
On the Bloody Plains, the winds were turbulent, the fire was turbulent, and hearts were turbulent.
Now Lily sat on Little Bear, walking at a leisurely pace. After this great fire, they could rest for a while. Now, they needed to give the Demon Clan time to gather their army at their leisure.
If only Bran were here. She could have him tell some interesting stories to pass this boring time. Perhaps she could also witness Bran’s strange methods.
When was the last time she beat him up?
There were fewer and fewer opponents who could spark her interest. Now, only her younger brother remained. But with Bran’s rascal nature, how could she force him to fight her?
She missed Bran! She wanted to know how Bran would deal with these Demon Clan. She wanted to see Bran’s strange methods.
