Chapter 174: The Answer
Without Jonah’s groans or Hall’s noise, Sandstone City fell into complete silence. Bran immersed himself in this silence, absorbing Mana quickly and firmly.
Then a voice sounded, “Do you want to obtain Immortality?”
Bran chuckled and shook his head, “Change the condition. Even you cannot achieve Immortality.”
The other party was silent for a moment, then said, “But, those people outside the city desire Immortality.”
“I have no relation to them.”
“Do you want it?”
“Just a casual chat, asking each other a few questions, looking for some answers.”
“Good.”
“I feel very familiar with the changes here, and I also have many friends who can alter the environment. They call themselves Fairies. So, what do you call yourselves?”
As Bran spoke, a small figure appeared not far from him and answered excitedly, “Fairies.”
Bran smiled. Now many things became clear…
Bran pointed to his own shoulder, “No need to stay so far away. You can sit here. My name is Bran. What’s yours?”
Through the conversation, Bran learned more: the sound he made in the City Lord’s Manor of Sandstone City, though he had controlled the direction of its propagation, he had neglected beneath his feet, allowing the sound to travel into the earth.
Deep in the Depths of the Earth beneath Sandstone City, there was an intricate Labyrinth. An underground river cut through here; perhaps this vast Labyrinth was its creation. Stalactites of various shapes adorned the place. The river water flowed slowly, its surface appearing still, with fish lingering in the water.
A group of Fairies had lived for generations in this closed World, until Bran’s voice, mixed with the residual waves of Mana, reached here. In a way, Bran could be considered a large-sized Fairy. The active Mana mixed with traces of his spirit caught their attention.
Thus, the immense Mana accumulated over generations was released by them, gradually surging towards the surface…
A few days later, Bran returned to Northland City and relayed his discoveries in Sandstone City to Whisper. He could not bring those Fairies away, as they could no longer adapt to anything under the sunlight, and their requirements for the Mana environment were completely different from the Fairies on the surface.
Now Bran finally confirmed that everything was a coincidence. In this coincidence, his gains were also enormous.
Mana was chaotic and complex; Bran had never been able to separate it. Facing Mana was like facing water that had dissolved sugar, salt, and other things. Now he obtained a pure form of Mana; it was a thread. As long as he followed this thread, he could gradually distinguish more.
A relatively single environment could yield relatively pure Mana. He would try to construct these, try to obtain more, try to sort out the complex Mana within his body.
Environments could be created. This reminded him of the great fire in Sandstone City, the pulsating flames that seemed alive, enveloping clusters of Darkness. It was a pity he was too far away at the time and missed too many clues.
But he always felt that during the process of absorbing Mana in Sandstone City, it seemed something else was also inhaled into his body, but he did not notice anything unusual. His body showed no abnormality, but what about his Soul? If the Soul was also a container, what did it hold?
…
After Bran returned, he did not see Hall again.
Hall did not stay long after visiting Eileen. His wretched state made Eileen very sad. So much so that these past few days, she had been rather cold towards Bran as well. Then, almost as a form of venting, she threw herself into training. Though stung by wasps until her face was swollen and bruised, she did not utter a sound. Her behavior provoked Zoya, so Zoya also stopped complaining.
The Ancient Tree treated this as a game and enjoyed it very much. However, Bran felt a bit of a headache. He had not asked the Ancient Tree to train Eileen, and he didn’t know what this Wood head was thinking?
He originally thought Huahua could keep an eye on the Ancient Tree. What benefit did the Ancient Tree promise him?
Eileen was, after all, a Dragon Rider. She would not have much identification with the Northlands. Moreover, she was not a Wizard, so it was hard for Bran to instill a sense of superiority in her.
Some things were taking effect. Pachu and Earl repeatedly used the word “Mortal” when speaking with him. That was good! If this momentum continued, he could consider letting a few Wizards with some accomplishments return to their homeland for a visit.
As for Zoya, Bran wanted her to go home for a visit, hoping to stir up some trouble. For Bran, Zoya’s Trial to become a true Northlander had just begun. The room for a Wizard’s growth was too vast; he had to ensure Zoya was a genuine Northlander.
When the time came, Bran would pair these Wizards returning home in glory with Knights from Northland City. With just some time, these Wizards would come to believe that the Knights of Northland City were the best choice, the best partners for Wizards. He would make this a form of identification, a symbol of status.
As symbols, the Knights of Northland City did not need to be powerful in combat. They only needed to look impressive and strictly adhere to certain codes of conduct.
Bran believed that with just some time, he could certainly turn things upside down here, without paying much of a price.
…
At this time, the Western Territory was still calm because the Demon Clan was still gathering.
The subsequent attacks, envisioned by the Demon Clan to be like a storm, did not arrive. This all seemed very unreasonable. Did the Northlanders not even understand pursuing a victory?
Things were abnormal, so the Demon Clan’s actions became even more cautious.
Various rumors were spreading through the defeated soldiers: a young girl beheaded a team of Knights on the battlefield; it was her again, who set fire to the Demon Clan’s camp under the moonlight.
Upon hearing this, the Demon Clan had only one reaction—absurd!
No matter the rumors, no matter what inconceivable things happened, the Demon Clan must have revenge!
Blood for blood! Their most elite forces were on their way.
