Chapter 208: Unexpected Incident

Jenny did not know how she ran out of the house. In her panic, she did not care about saddling the horse. She snatched a horse and fled with the crowd. Riding on the bare back of the horse, the warm wind blowing in her face slowly brought feeling back to her limbs.

As they got farther from the inn, everyone slowed their frantic escape. Sitting on her gradually slowing horse, Jenny could not help but let out a laugh. This immediately drew the displeasure of the others, and angry gazes turned toward her. If it weren’t for these three troublemakers, everyone wouldn’t be in such a sorry state.

Her brother beside her tugged at her, warning her not to provoke everyone further. But after the panic, Jenny thought of something she found quite pleasing and shouted loudly, “Did we just tease that Great Wizard?”

This reminder made her two brothers’ eyes light up. That was true! Now they had something to boast about!

Someone couldn’t help but scold, “Tease? Why didn’t he just swat you dead!”

Another reminded, “Watch your mouths. He’s probably heading for the Royal Capital. Don’t bring disaster upon an entire city because of you.”

All kinds of complaints, scoldings, and reminders then drowned her out…

…

Bran and Huahua sat in the mess of the inn, pondering life. The fire in the kitchen crackled now and then, bringing a bit of life to the place.

The Knights were indeed well-trained; at least the narrow door didn’t cause too much trouble during their escape. Lui had run too, and run very fast, which surprised him. What about the honor she just mentioned? He thought she would stay and show her pride and bravery.

Bran felt very bored. “Huahua, you know what? They are all liars. They have no chivalry at all. They ate without paying.”

With light footsteps, a child cautiously peeked out from the kitchen doorway. Upon seeing Bran still sitting in the corner, the child turned to slip away. But a magical incantation froze the child in place, making them too reluctant to leave.

“Check, please!” The incantation was not loud, but to the child, it sounded like heavenly music.

Money emboldens the hero. The child who received the money immediately became lively and started bustling about in front of Bran. Following the child’s lead, the innkeeper soon emerged as well.

He bowed from a distance and carefully asked, “Sir, what else do you require?”

“Clean up this place and then find a place to hide. Do not show yourselves until dawn.” As he gave the order, a shiny gold coin was tossed to him.

Because of a trivial matter, he had nearly lost control. Bran sighed and turned his gaze to the starry sky outside the window. The stars were shining brightly, but they brought no light or warmth that he needed.

The night passed without incident. By the time the innkeeper and his family came out of their hiding place, Bran had already been gone for a long time.

…

A few days later, Jenny and the others, who had fled back to the Royal Capital, began opening their big mouths and spreading their adventure everywhere. Although they belonged to the Royal Family, they were not core members. They usually just idled around, and their presence was hardly felt by others. This incident attracted a lot of attention, which gave them great satisfaction.

Unlike their public pride, being dragged around by their elders for repeated questioning felt very unpleasant. Although they knew the appearance of the Great Wizard would put great pressure on the Royal Family, they found it hard to truly understand.

The Throne was far beyond their reach, and achieving great deeds was even more unthinkable. For them, their Royal Family identity felt more like a shackle. Chaos was what they secretly hoped for, as only chaos could bring them more freedom.

After the panic, they began waiting excitedly for the arrival of Wizard Bran. They hoped his coming would bring some change and fun to their dull lives.

Unlike these unlucky kids, those in power were under great pressure. Sean, who had been neglected, felt the warmth of attention again these past few days.

The name Bran was like a fly that wouldn’t go away. Every attempt to swat it away made the gradually quiet fly buzz and crash about again, bringing an even more annoying sound.

Sean really wanted to ask these people to leave him alone. He already knew his final fate. Every false show of warmth only hastened his death.

A full moon hung high in the sky. Sean stood by the window out of habit, enjoying this rare moment of quiet.

A familiar voice spoke by his ear, “Hello, my teacher.”

Sean gave a bitter laugh. “Hello, my most accomplished student.”

…

Bran’s entry into Anya was on a whim. He had no diplomatic purpose, only personal curiosity, wanting to confirm some guesses.

He treated this place as a hunting ground, a backup means to resolve a crisis. If he couldn’t control his emotions, he would rest and recover here. He did not want to contact the higher-ups of this country, so after leaving the inn, he hid his tracks.

After reaching Lava City, Bran observed the city carefully, moving by night and resting by day. He soon discovered its secret.

Lava City was actually built on a volcano. This volcano had been dormant for who knows how many years. Mana from the Depths of the Earth poured out from the volcano’s crater. This Mana was scorching and thick, rolling down the mountainside and nourishing everything here.

After satisfying his curiosity, he turned his attention to the Royal Palace. The Royal Palace was located at the highest point of the city. From here, one could look down and see the entire city spread out. At least, that was the case for Bran, who was sitting on top of the Royal Palace.

He just didn’t expect to find an unexpected person here—Sean.

After a brief greeting, Bran asked, “Can you tell me why you are here? I always thought you should be retired in Wisdom City.”

Sean sighed, showing no intention to hide anything. “To deal with you.”

“Oh?”

“You are a threat to the countries and powers here, so we wanted to find a way to deal with you.”

“Did you find one?”

“We did, but then your Sister appeared again. The plan was put on hold. Everyone is afraid of retaliation.”
