Chapter 229: The New Residence
Bran thought Mary had pre-wedding jitters. Getting this worked up could easily turn into a mental breakdown. And from her attitude, it seemed she planned to stay here long-term without leaving. Everyone else silently supported Mary because if Mary could continue living here after marriage, then they could too.
Many unexpected things had happened since coming back here.
Zoya had lost her memory. This time, it wasn’t an act; anyone could see something was wrong. Losing over ten years of memories made her behavior a bit strange. She often held the White Wolf, looking confused. When she was at her most helpless, the two White Wolves stayed close by her side, guarding her and bringing her home.
The Ancient Tree had made a friend, though he hadn’t realized it yet.
Adam had also come to Northland City. Bran thought he would keep his distance. Bran had a bad feeling about his brother’s visit, like a weasel coming to the door. According to Danny, many others planned to come here one after another, hoping for handouts.
Bran sighed and gave his first order since returning, telling people to move building materials to the empty land in the Eastern District. He also called Mary over. “Speak. What do you want?”
“A house!”
“What kind of house?”
An excited Mary began speaking endlessly about her requirements and ideas.
Bran decided to give in and meet their demands. He couldn’t keep dealing with this. But the next day, Mary approached Bran again and said, I think we can make a few more changes…
Change it, definitely change it! A major life event shouldn’t be taken lightly.
On the third day, I looked carefully all day yesterday. This part can be changed too.
On the fourth day…
On a calm and sunny morning, Bran’s furious roar echoed through Northland City. “You want me to change it back to the original? What was the original? Tell me!”
For someone who could count a herd back and forth all day, Mary of course knew what the original was. So she described the room’s details clearly.
Bran was truly impressed. After helping Mary fulfill her wish, he ran away from home.
…
Baz was squatting under a tree, observing a stone. Like a playful child, he kept moving the stone away from its spot. Until a young man appeared beside him at some point. He knew the person he was waiting for had finally come.
He stood up and gave a slight nod, then waited quietly for a reply.
“Do you really believe in Immortality?” As he asked, Bran bent down and reached his hand near the stone. Under Baz’s gaze, the stone rolled into Bran’s palm as if it had met a dear friend.
“It’s still a chance.”
Bran shook his head. “Death is Death.”
“What about the Dead in Sandstone City and the Anya Defense Line then?”
“Reflections formed when broken Souls are infused with Mana, echoes of the past. Their appearance was just a coincidence. I haven’t figured out the secret behind it yet.”
Baz frowned and tested the waters. “Are you hoping I’ll give up?”
“No, just a reminder. It’s only a form. Its essence is still Death.”
“Thank you, but I still want to try.”
“Fine. As you wish.”
Bran tossed the stone in his hand. Baz thought he heard the stone laugh joyfully, which made him secretly relieved.
“And stop bothering it. It doesn’t like you.” With that, Bran casually placed the stone back in its original spot.
“When do we start?” Baz seemed a bit impatient.
“When Death comes, I will find you.” Bran looked at Baz, a hint of teasing in his eyes. “You don’t seem to understand yet.”
“Understand what?”
“You think you’re about to die, right?”
Baz nodded. He felt he could die at any moment, which was why he was risking everything to pursue Immortality.
“Maybe you are very old, but your Flame of Life is still burning strong.”
Baz was speechless…
“If you want to embrace Death right now, I can help you.”
Facing Bran’s teasing, Baz immediately shook his head.
Bran motioned for Baz to follow and turned to walk towards the Eastern District.
“After the transformation, do you still want to go back?”
“No, there’s nowhere safer than here.”
“That requires an extra fee. Go find something to do with the White Robes and live there from now on. Don’t keep your attendants or disciples here.”
“Alright.”
“What else do I need to prepare?”
Bran smiled. “No preparation needed. If it becomes too unbearable, you can come find me anytime.”
…
The White-robed Ones were already waiting in the Eastern District, whispering to each other as they faced the messy pile of materials. They were a bit scared, afraid Bran would assign the construction work here to them too.
Now they were Wizards loyal to Northland City, no longer Scholars temporarily residing here. This change in status meant they couldn’t refuse Bran’s requests. So while worried, they had to put on brave and loyal expressions.
Bran didn’t try to guess what the White-robed Ones were thinking. He just casually handed Baz over to them.
Bran had always been quite restrained. He never truly displayed his power within Northland City. Even when expanding the city’s roads, he just slowly walked through the city and beyond. Back then, his range of influence was truly limited. The road expansion relied entirely on his own moving footsteps. It was impressive, but not overwhelmingly shocking.
Ultimately, he needed to let these White-robed Ones witness the real power of a Great Wizard. To make them understand the true gap between them. And everything that happened in Twinwing City had given him many ideas.
Bran gestured for the White-robed Ones who were too close to step back a little. “I once said my power isn’t suited for killing, but for building. You were half-convinced, half-doubtful, because it was the killing and destruction I caused that attracted you. And I rarely participated in building this city, simply because I didn’t want to. Or, because it was too boring for me.
But whether it’s destruction or construction, in my eyes, they are just different ways to use power. A Wizard’s power shouldn’t be limited to destruction. Construction is also one of our greatest strengths.”
Bran stopped lecturing. He used his actions to explain his words. A High Tower rose from the ground, reaching into the clouds. A square formed in front of the tower, and a Statue was erected, just like in Twinwing City. Rows of houses appeared out of nothing, gradually covering the Eastern District.
