Chapter 247: Companions
For the past few days, Zack had been showing his new friends around and getting familiar with his new home. To make it easier for the Ancient Tree to move around, everything in the Eastern District was built by Bran to be tall and grand. Although the Ancient Tree still could not enter most houses, things like peeking through windows became much easier. However, it took time for others to get used to it because people looked too small inside.
Zack excitedly and proudly led the way for his friends. Jenny and Lui were also mixed in the crowd. After leaving the Royal Capital of Anya, driven by urgency, they rode here as fast as they could.
When they first arrived, everything in Northland City made them very disappointed. Was this the admired Northland City? Wizard Bran actually lived in such a shabby city. Fortunately, despite the disappointment, they did see many powerful people, even Monsters, here.
An old tree that swayed occasionally wandered around the city. They heard that the amazingly wide roads here were specially built for him by the Grand Sorcerer.
But apart from the roads and a bunch of odd Wizards, this city was nothing special. Watching those Wizards diligently building their own sites, looking ambitious. But their clumsy performance deeply disappointed the two who had high expectations. The gap from what they imagined was too big; these were just a group of people with power but nothing else.
This simple city still lacked complete facilities, like inns. It was better if you had local relatives or friends because people here all had a decent-sized piece of land and spacious houses. Staying with them did not feel crowded.
But for those without anyone to rely on, the city seemed rather unfriendly. At the edge of the city, there was a large empty area prepared for outsiders like them. When the weather was warm, it was fine, but if winter came, most people would probably choose to return to their hometowns. They even suspected this was a way to drive outsiders away. Fortunately, although everything was simple, the public safety was surprisingly good.
The two young ladies originally wanted to hide their identities, but the harsh reality quickly made them give in. They decided to reveal their status as Nobles to receive noble treatment.
Soon, they regretted their actions. Although their status was high, their worldly status was not very useful here. No one paid attention to them, and not even a second glance was given. Helpless, they decided to seek help from the Anya Wizards studying here.
However, the help they received was unacceptable because they were placed among the servants. This was an insult! In their anger, these Wizards apologized while explaining the reason.
Studying Wizards had no privileges; they had no right to arrange people into their own sites. The condition for staying in the accommodations Northland City prepared for visiting Wizards was only one—being a Wizard. Even accompanying servants could not enter and had to stay in the servant Camp not far away. And study Wizards could only arrange for people to stay there.
Seeing their unhappy faces, someone suggested that if they were dissatisfied, they could seek help from the Anya Delegation. The Delegations from several countries were still hanging around here with no intention of leaving.
Helpless, they had to ask the Delegation for help. The Delegation’s conditions were barely acceptable. Although Northland City also ignored the Delegation, it at least provided a decent empty spot for each country’s Delegation. Backed by strong financial resources, the Delegation promoted the spirit of self-reliance and hard work, building shelters to protect them from wind and rain.
They did not want to ask the Delegation for help because the Delegation had a few people who could discipline them. These people, whether by status or seniority, had enough qualifications to scold them.
Fortunately, they were only scolded a few times when they met. Now the Delegation was deeply troubled and had no energy to discipline other people’s children. Staying with the Delegation also had benefits. Using the Delegation’s opportunity to visit the City Lord, they pretended to be Attendants and saw a paradise-like scene in the City Manor’s garden, which improved their impression of Northland City.
This also nearly caused trouble. To fully see the beautiful scenery, the two wanted to sneak a look. But they hadn’t gone far when a White Wolf blocked their path.
How dare it! A mere animal dared to block their way? They decided to teach this blind animal a lesson. But this was, after all, the City Manor, so they wouldn’t use swords here. So they gathered their presence and stared into the White Wolf’s eyes.
However, they soon realized something was wrong. Those wolf eyes actually showed strong disdain. There was no cruelty or bloodlust, only contempt for those overestimating themselves. For a moment, they felt what stood before them was not a beast but a person with rich emotions.
During the stare-down, the flowers and plants in the courtyard rustled without wind. The entire City Manor carried a strong sense of oppression, growing larger in their eyes. Even the ground beneath their feet no longer felt solid, as if giving up supporting them. By then, they did not dare to act rashly. The beautiful, paradise-like garden had turned into a grim hell. It wasn’t until a panicked official from the Delegation inside the manor ran out and hastily took them away.
After returning, they were warned not to provoke the partners of the Northlanders—the White Wolves. Because in the eyes of the Northlanders, they were like family. They heard several White Wolves directly belonged to the Great Wizard Bran, and if they were harmed, the consequences would be unthinkable.
Some of their plans also fell through, like getting a close look at the legendary City Lord who went through life and death with the Great Wizard. After this incident, their treatment in the Delegation took a sharp turn for the worse, and no one dared to take them anywhere anymore.
Just as they were bored to death, Wizard Bran displayed a miracle. Magnificent buildings appeared in the Eastern District, and a High Tower reaching the clouds stood tall. That figure, like a Demon God, descended upon the land, overlooking All Living Beings.
A few days later, when people calmed down a bit, some full of curiosity wanted to go there to explore, including them. However, that area was only open to residents of Northland City.
If they weren’t allowed in, then they wouldn’t go! Full of resentment, they noticed the residents’ looks towards them turning disdainful. They also tried to sneak in but failed. Like grains of sand in clear water, they did not fit in with this city.
Everything changed too fast. One moment it was a wasteland, the next it became splendid and glorious. They really wanted to see it, to discover any possible secrets. During this torment, a group of Anya People arrived here with Zack’s team.
As a Northlander, Zack certainly had the right to show his friends his own home. Seeing this opportunity, they shamelessly tagged along as friends of friends.
Although it was a bit embarrassing, they felt it was totally worth it. Looking up at the surrounding buildings and Statues, they kept exclaiming in awe. They were already lost in this place and did not want to leave…
