Chapter 259: Winter (Part 1)
The solid accumulation of her own Mana allowed Xirui to possess immense power upon her Awakening, yet this could not hide the fact that her Awakening was still recent. Therefore, her understanding of her abilities was not yet delicate or deep.
Xirui understood better than anyone that ability was the key for a Wizard to rebuild their senses. She heard Sister say, “When she first tried to rebuild her senses following Brother’s way, she faced many obstacles. It was only when she trusted her intuition and followed her ability that she smoothly passed through the barrier.”
Xirui was fortunate. While there was no ready-made method to copy, her sister’s experience at least pointed her in a direction and provided a feasible approach.
She asked Zoya to take Feiyu and the White Wolf back first and not to wait for her. She wanted to release her power like her sister did; when the power poured out, her ability might help her break through the obstacle.
After hearing Xirui’s explanation, Zoya did not hesitate. She turned and left with her companions. Behind her, a cold wind skimmed the ground, slightly stirring up swirling snow. A sliver of chill rapidly gathered and spread with this wind and snow, as if urging her to go faster and farther.
Feiyu felt the threat behind him. Shedding his usual lazy demeanor, he took to the air and dashed ahead first. Seeing this, several young White Wolfs also leaped forward. After a few steps, they realized what was happening, stopped, and looked back at Zoya.
Zoya shook her head helplessly, barked a low “Run!”, and then sprinted off after Feiyu, who was already almost out of sight…
Watching her companions gradually recede into the distance, Xirui withdrew her gaze and sat down cross-legged. Her Fairy partner chose this moment to appear, dancing before her eyes amidst the wind and snow.
“Stop fooling around. Once I pass this barrier, I can try to get you a name in advance.”
“Really?” Her Fairy partner immediately became interested.
“I’ll discuss it with Fourth Brother and ask for his help. You know Fourth Brother has always been on good terms with the Old Fairies.” Xirui smirked cunningly. “Mikkel is in the city; he has the authority to name you.”
“Why didn’t you try to get it for me before?” The Little Fairy sounded a bit resentful.
“Sister and Brother both only secured names for their partners in advance after they became Great Wizards. If I had asked for one earlier, what would our companions have thought? A name gained that way would not be an honor but a disgrace.”
“You aren’t a Great Wizard after passing this barrier either, so wouldn’t I still be a disgrace?”
“I heard that the partners of the Little Wizards in Twinwing City all have names now. As long as we are no worse than them, no one will laugh.”
“Okay. Is there anything I can help with?”
“Did you notice Rando and Langa are using Fourth Brother’s Mana to mimic his ability?”
“Really?”
“Of course. You Fairies can naturally utilize your partner’s Mana. You’ve been using the Ancient Tree’s Mana all along, right?” Seeing the Little Fairy nod, she continued, “I guess this is Fourth Brother’s new experiment. We can try it too. If we succeed first, imagine what others will think? So, while I try to break through, you can try to utilize the Mana pouring out from me.”
“Alright!”
Xirui and the Little Fairy were ambitious. The mental excitement sparked by their ambition made the storm around her grow more and more violent.
Bran had told Xirui, “You must harness the power of nature itself.” Xirui remembered this, and she was doing exactly that. The Mana-wind spun and expanded along with the natural wind currents between heaven and earth, eventually forming a massive tornado connecting to the sky.
As the tornado persisted, clouds began to gather above it, and flashes of lightning sparked. With the dancing lightning, the clouds gradually grew thicker, darker, and began to spin and spread outward.
Xirui sat at the center of the tornado where it was calm and peaceful. However, the enormous tornado continuously carried the ground’s heat up into the high atmosphere, and the temperature here kept dropping. Moisture in the air condensed and then turned into ice pellets that fell with a soft, rustling sound.
Xirui was doing very well. She made full use of nature’s own power, spending only a negligible amount of Mana to give it a gentle push, thus creating an ideal environment for herself.
Zoya ran with all her might alongside the White Wolf, and her impression of Feiyu improved slightly. The unreliable Feiyu had finally done one thing right by getting everyone to avoid a disaster.
When Xirui pushed the first gust of wind, Feiyu sensed the impending storm. After all, the Giant Falcon was a Monarch of the sky; flying through the blue heavens meant being a companion to the wind, so he understood the wind’s whispers best.
Though this act of not giving any warning seemed rather reckless.
…
Harvey and Sander had finished their simple survey of the Wizard Territory. Now they sat bored on a large rock, their eyes slightly closed, enjoying the winter sun.
A wind carrying a chill brushed their faces, dispersing the warmth of the sunlight. They opened their eyes in annoyance, muttered a few low curses, and then were drawn to the strange phenomenon in the distance.
Against the backdrop of this phenomenon, Feiyu’s huge figure was speeding towards them from a low altitude. Throughout their journey, they had always thought Feiyu was a clumsy fellow. Now, Feiyu was showing everyone through his actions that he was usually just too lazy to fly. Several dark spots were also racing behind Feiyu.
After carefully looking into the distance, Harvey and Sander felt that something was wrong!
But as the person involved, Xirui was not yet aware of this. She was currently filled with admiration for Fourth Brother. This method was so effective, and this was so much fun.
The increasingly low temperatures invigorated her, and the Mana within her body grew more active. At this moment, Xirui felt everything around her become crystal clear. Countless ice crystals beside her seemed to transform into mirrors, and the World traveled through and was reflected in these mirrors…
