Chapter 323: Luck

Chapter 323: Luck
When mentioning the Amphibians, one must talk about the two kingdoms of South Cape and Lianhai. Hearing about the farce where the two kingdoms were rumored to have recklessly claimed ancestors, which became widely known, Dia and the others couldn’t help but laugh heartily.
Bran waited for everyone to finish laughing before continuing his explanation. I’m somewhat confused now. I can’t tell if the royal families of these two kingdoms were truly foolish, or just pretending to be foolish, or perhaps they were simply fortunate because of their foolishness.
Compared to those invaders, I am not noble. In fact, I am even more despicable. Many inside stories remain unknown to outsiders. The reasons why those enemies came are only known to you and me.
In my eyes, they are no different from dead people. They are only slightly more useful because they are alive. I hoped they would defend their borders stubbornly and gradually figure out the enemy’s true strength through prolonged conflict. If I had known they would retreat so decisively, I might have acted earlier to create a new Death zone there.
They retreated twice. According to later battle reports, their losses were actually not severe. It was basically a large step back. The individual strength of the Amphibians indeed far surpassed theirs. However, the greatest weakness of the Amphibians is their dependence on water sources. Moreover, with so many Amphibians gathered together, a couple of small streams could not possibly meet their needs.
Then, they ran to their current defensive position, a relatively dry area. The Amphibians who chased them here probably already regretted it. Without a large water source, the Amphibians could barely survive, let alone fight. Even so, those two kingdoms merely defended from their advantageous position and did not launch any attacks.
This time, the Amphibians probably did not come to capture cities or territory. They came to probe and then look for opportunities to inflict heavy casualties on their opponents. That’s why they formed their battle lines in the coastal areas. They likely also didn’t expect their opponents to simply run away without even showing a shadow…
Before, I had delusions of using others. I didn’t expect to borrow no strength at all. Looking back now, from beginning to end, it was only me holding the front line.
But there’s nothing to complain about. Those outsiders came for us in the first place. However, this outcome is ultimately frustrating. The only comfort I feel now is—I have good luck. I am actually still alive.
Or maybe I should be happy. This shows that as a newly promoted Great Wizard, the gap in individual strength compared to those old things isn’t that large.
Perhaps we really are natural-born Predators, but this is not a good thing. For this land to prosper, true builders still need to appear.
We Northlanders are inherently better at killing than building. Perhaps this is precisely what this continent beneath our feet needs. These barren mountains and treacherous waters need self-preservation and need to plunder, so it ultimately chose us. And we did not disappoint it. We always revealed our true nature and bared our fangs unintentionally.
It’s just that the timing is somewhat wrong. This is really my fault. I should have had more patience, should have learned to move stealthily. Now, since hiding is no longer possible, I don’t mind continuing to be arrogant.
Oh, tell my Sister. I am not crazy. This is a training method I discovered recently. It can help me quickly become familiar with my own body.
After the meal, the cousins went happily to visit the Treasure Vault. Bran and Danny sat at the table, lost in thought.
After a long silence, Danny spoke. “I don’t want to be this City Lord anymore. As an Attendant, I should stay by your side.”
Bran shook his head. “Continue. Most of the time, I am here. I have never been far away. This is just a Shadow. If you wish, I can create an identical Shadow to stand beside you anytime I want. The person sitting here and the Shadow under my feet are actually no different. There is also the Mana, scattered all around, which you cannot see or touch. That is me. They are all part of me. Just like you once held my hand, they are my hands, my eyes.
If you wish, you can add another chair in the study of the City Lord’s Manor. I will appear there. However, I cannot yet do two things at once with full attention, so my reactions might be a bit slower there.”
Danny stared at Bran seriously for a moment and finally couldn’t hold back a sigh.
“Will those outsiders act again recently?”
“Once something like this starts, it will not stop again. The process will just be very long. I don’t hope for a decisive victory. I only hope to achieve a slight balance. Then I will take you all out to see what other Continents are like.”
“Do you have a plan?”
“No. For me, it’s just about killing or being killed. I am not good at scheming. I cannot see through all those complicated twists and turns clearly. But I know, as long as I eliminate the people who design these complicated twists and turns, things will become simple.
When things are simple, they are easier to sort out clearly. If they aren’t clear, it doesn’t matter. I just need to throw the mess to others. So I will try my best to guard our home, not letting the mess enter here. I will run out to argue and fight with people, then return home quietly to watch the excitement outside with you all.
Before, I didn’t know who would attack us or from which direction they would come. Now the Amphibians have jumped out. I also know the direction they came from. So when the weather gets warm next year, I will ambush in advance under the sea, trying to catch a few more big fish.
If I can catch a true Great Wizard, then there will definitely be a truly big spectacle, and all sorts of people will definitely jump out. I don’t mind taking the chance to swallow a few more.
Here, I am just a Shadow. There are not many people who can truly kill me. And there are only a handful of people I truly care about. Even if I cannot win, Huahua can take you all and run away. So I don’t have many concerns. I can let loose and do things others don’t dare to do.”
Danny looked at Bran and smiled. “It seems you really don’t care about this city, or the people here. No wonder you threw Earl out, not asking or caring. She has sent several letters recently, wanting to know when she can return. The letters said you promised that she would only need to stay for half a year before someone would replace her.”
Bran clapped his hands, suddenly remembering his promise. Then he laughed. “You and Pachu can discuss this matter. See which Wizard you don’t like and send him over to be confined for a while.”
