Chapter 332: Regret
Recently, letters from Twinwing City became more frequent. The Little Wizards suddenly showed great interest in Bran’s current state. They were interested in how Bran was eroded, and how he was finally washed away by the torrent of mana, leaving no fleshly trace in the world.
Then, they proposed several methods to guide the mana torrent into the world, hoping Bran could give corrections. Bran was quite experienced in this, as his image was essentially about injecting mana into the world.
The Key was crucial.
At the same time, he reminded the Little Wizards that although it was nurtured from our bodies and inherited part of our spirit, mana still dominated. Many things thus became uncontrollable; otherwise, he would not have completely fallen into the Sea of Magic. His current situation was merely a forced submission out of helplessness.
In Bran’s view, overly precise control held little meaning. His present state was an escape route found through the combined action of life’s explosive potential in dire straits and mana. And whether he could truly escape remained unknown.
Bran had guessed that some Little Wizards were preparing to do something reckless. He also knew these children were growing more independent and would no longer listen to his dissuasion. So, he could only try his best to explain everything he knew clearly.
In his spare time, Bran often wondered if the Little Wizards’ impulsiveness was because of his example or because of the negative effects produced during the Continent’s awakening.
Bran thought that although he was a humble life born on the Continent, he had now broken free from its control. Logically, it should tightly hold onto these Little Wizards. How could it let them escape? Or perhaps, the only one who wanted to escape was him alone.
He also wondered if it was still holding his Sister tightly in its embrace.
…
Days passed in Northland City. Some people felt fulfilled and busy, while others felt dull and boring.
For quite a long time, Wood from the Bran Family was in a dull and boring state. Everything happening to him now was merely an instinctive reaction, like breathing, for the Ancient Tree.
But it was precisely this instinct that bound him in place, giving rise to much helplessness and distress. “Tansuo” could at least roam the city with Huahua, while he could only stand here dryly. The Little Tree in the City Manor now had a hard trunk and was actually impatient to listen to his rambling.
The Old Fairy Mikkel, however, was very considerate. He placed the cultivated saplings around him in a circle. So, he began to boast to a row of saplings in their ignorant state, “Back when I had eight feet…”
The roots delving deep underground were not only absorbing nutrients but also pouring mana into the earth. The soil thus became more vibrant, and the creatures hidden underground gradually became active.
The White Wolves and Snow Falcons could guard the surface but were powerless against the underground. Along the roots, a vast kingdom of small creatures was forming. Currently, a family of groundhogs held the dominant position here.
They originally kept quiet surveillance from the nearby flowerbeds. But once, Huahua, for some unknown reason, caught one and played with it for a long time. Since then, this family no longer dared to show themselves nearby.
He didn’t much like the groundhogs either, but Bran needed to observe, so he let this family live a few more days for now. However, being able to tunnel all the way from outside the city into here might indeed bring some surprises.
Bran was busy and no longer had time to accompany him. Although he knew Bran was always surrounding him, losing the tangible sense of leaning on each other inevitably brought some melancholy and loss.
Fortunately, the spiritual connection with Bran was growing increasingly close, which somewhat made up for these regrets.
Most of the Primordial Magic flowing from the Void was Bran’s newly formed flesh, containing Bran’s indelible spiritual imprint. As the mana continuously poured into his body, those imprints gradually became part of him. Until one day, he suddenly discovered he could see the Sea of Magic through the spiritual connection.
This new discovery temporarily freed him from boredom. He started boasting to the Little Tree in the City Manor again, but the Little Tree didn’t believe him. So, he “reluctantly” gave a little demonstration. Then the Little Tree began to beg earnestly, hoping he could show more.
Through this event, he taught the Little Tree a truth: The big tree of the Bran Family is forever the family’s big tree…
Because they were already used to rummaging in each other’s Spiritual World, Bran did not stop his peeking. He had been observing the whirlpools in the Sea of Magic recently and gradually noticed some things. Bran was not only driving his own mana circulation but also Huahua’s. No wonder Huahua only slept every day…
So, he thought Bran should do more work, preferably taking over his tasks as well. For Bran, becoming a human or a tree probably made no difference. Unfortunately, a small test showed it wouldn’t work. Bran could only simulate the appearance but could not truly recreate its essence. Bran might have thought of something because of this; for a few days, he kept staring blankly at a branch broken from his head.
A group of Old Fairies were currently having fun inside Bran’s body. This matter was originally supposed to be kept secret, but it was leaked because Danny casually asked about it while handing over work to Mikkel.
Now, besides being timid and fearing death, Mikkel gained a reputation for being a big mouth.
Young fairies, even Little Fairies, who heard the news wanted to go in and see, but were told it was not yet guaranteed safe. Only Rando and Langa could enter because of their partnership. Bran had not taken them along in recent battles, which had caused dissatisfaction. So the two Little Fairies demanded that Bran honor their original agreement: whatever he did, he must take them along.
As the number one big tree in the family, he thought these Old Fairies were getting senile. That was Bran’s body; could there be any place safer than that? Perhaps they just wanted some peace and quiet. Because as soon as Rando and Langa entered, the place immediately became lively.
While the Old Fairies were still cautiously testing, Rando and Langa leaped directly from the Fruit and plunged into the Tributary. Without even making a splash, they disappeared without a trace. Amidst the screams of many Old Fairies, Rando and Langa surfaced not far away, laughing towards them.
Facing the Old Fairies’ stern scolding, a splash of water sent the two Little Fairies back onto the Fruit. Then several old hands almost simultaneously landed on them.
The Little Fairies felt very wronged and explained that it was no different from the outside. They spent all day with Bran, going in and out of his body, and could even use part of his mana. As they spoke, they began to demonstrate, and another splash of water rose from the Tributary. They had made Bran’s body their nest, so no one knew Bran better than they did.
The Old Fairies instantly became kindly and gentle, and several old hands simultaneously stroked the Little Fairies’ heads…
Unfortunately, interesting things like this couldn’t happen every day, which he deeply regretted.
