Chapter 344: The Pool Water
Lily knew perfectly well what Bran was doing. Not wanting to fall too far behind, she also tried hard to weave the Mana Web of Twinwing City, but it wasn’t going very smoothly.
Twinwing City had many Wizards, and each could condense their own independent web. But trying to merge them into one was impossible. Without the assimilation and devouring power in Bran’s abilities, the many differing attributes of Mana simply couldn’t blend together. This made them realize that Bran’s seemingly sinister powers of assimilation and devouring were also a form of acceptance.
Moreover, their own power lacked erosiveness. Once the Mana Web stretched to a certain limit, it couldn’t advance an inch further. Their initial enthusiasm soon ended in frustration.
They could only wait, hoping Bran would extend the Mana Web to Twinwing City soon. Then they would have many fun and interesting things to do. For example, experiencing someone else’s power through the Mana Web, and what they looked forward to the most—combining the power of several people into one body.
After her frustration, Lily turned her gaze to the Pool of Foresight. The single Water Pearl from before had now become a shallow pool of water. After part of Xina’s body was transported there, Lily had always wondered what would happen if the two were mixed.
First, she took one drop of each, then two drops…
After many experiments, there was no discernible pattern. They either merged or repelled each other, sometimes even separating again after merging.
To vent her gloom, Lily did something almost like an outburst—she tossed all of Xina’s remains into the Pool of Foresight. Boiling! That was the strange phenomenon Lily witnessed.
This phenomenon quickly attracted a crowd of Little Wizards to watch. From the boiling water, they saw various scenes: tall mountains and great rivers, deep chasms and vast gulfs, with birds and beasts flashing by from time to time. Until a group of unfamiliar people appeared in the scene, gazing at the pool water just like them…
The deep pool in that scene was far from the shallow puddle before their eyes. It was dark and profound, seeming as if it could drown everything.
This final scene seemed to freeze. Despite the boiling in the pool, nothing else changed. After a few days, the Pool Water gradually calmed, and the images disappeared.
A creature in the pool tried to stand up, but only caused the water to ripple slightly. It helplessly bobbed a few times, as if having exhausted all its strength, then resignedly lay flat on the water’s surface.
A curious Little Wizard scooped it out. It was an unknown life form, palm-sized and made of water. Immediately, many Little Wizards were drawn over, pointing and chattering around the little thing.
The birthing of life did not end. After this little creature was scooped out, another identical creature appeared in the pool…
As creature after creature was scooped out, the Pool Water gradually lost its power, becoming lifeless and still.
A few days later, the power-depleted Pool Water finally dried up, and the city gained a group of little creatures wandering about.
…
On a small island in the sea, Kano stared blankly at the pool water. An unexpected change occurred, and he completely lost contact with that pool. It wasn’t blocked, but rather, its power was drained.
There was only one possible explanation for this, but he couldn’t quite believe it. Did that girl discover the secret of the Pool Water? Using it to enlighten new life.
How could something like this happen here? And it seemed to have succeeded—how was that possible?
The pool water on the island hadn’t formed long ago. He was just preparing to complete the primary task of this trip: to observe that young girl and the Wizards there, big and small.
Kano sighed. The part least likely to go wrong had suddenly had an accident. This made him think once more of the scene in the Pool of Foresight where he was corrupted and dried up, and Nita’s warning—you will die.
He suddenly felt somewhat powerless. Misfortune had followed him constantly since making contact with this Continent. But he had to persevere because he was the most suitable person to handle these matters; anyone else would only make it worse.
Otherwise, why would those old fellows have assigned him?
The two young Dragons on the island had flown off to who-knows-where. With their departure, the island became much quieter. Those two Dragons used to roar several times a day in a pretentious manner, which was terribly annoying.
But they were merely allies. Even as a Saint, he couldn’t really say much about such a minor issue. However, the direction those Dragons flew was indeed problematic—north.
Kano always felt things shouldn’t be this simple. Did Nita truly not foresee all this, or, like when it deceived the Little Dragon named Maya, had it not told the truth to any party? This allowed them to obtain a pure, nearly perfect Black Dragon.
Yes! How else could one deceive a Wizard who could speak with the dead? That’s why Nita dared not let these people know any truth, not even him, a Saint.
Kano turned his back to the Pool of Foresight and began to reflect.
He had relied too much on the Pool of Foresight, to the point where he no longer thought diligently. The pool water had already foreseen his Death. If he continued to rely on it, then Death truly would be unavoidable.
He had to free himself from the pool’s guidance to possibly gain a slim chance of survival. He had to deceive everyone around him, even himself, to possibly escape the fate of Death.
Just like Nita. Perhaps going against the flow was the only glimmer of hope.
Kano once again cast his gaze north. What was there? What would the Dragons gain there? Could he find a slim chance of survival there?
Nita still called him an old friend, but its tone didn’t sound like addressing an old friend. Did it want to hint at something?
As Kano pondered, the images in the Pool of Foresight behind him changed rapidly. This was no longer the Emerald Continent. The Awakening desolate land was beginning to affect the Pool of Foresight, but Kano, lost in thought, did not notice any of this.
After an unknown amount of time, Kano let out a stifled sigh.
He decided to go north and see what exactly was in that frozen land.
