Chapter 6: Dinner

Chapter 6: Dinner

Bran sat quietly at the dining table. He lowered his head and ate slowly, occasionally helping Black Cat Huahua beside him adjust the position of her food. Most of the attention at the table was focused on Black Cat Huahua, a black cat who had undergone an Awakening.

Bran was reflecting on himself, thinking about why he had gotten angry. That kind of emotion shouldn’t have appeared. Was it just because he wasn’t trusted? Or had he started to accept the fact that they were his family? This was really troublesome, Bran sighed in his heart. Family? Responsibility and bonds, this isn’t what I wanted.

His younger sister Xirui asked softly, “Is Huahua called a Wizard now?”

The Duchess answered gently, “No, a Magical Beast.”

“I want one too, or give Huahua to me, okay?”

“You can also raise one. With good luck, maybe it will be like Huahua. Or,” the Duchess looked up at Bran and hesitated before saying, “you can ask your brother.”

Bran looked up at his sister and sighed. “You can spend time playing with Huahua if you have the chance.” Bran thought to himself, I should refuse, but who could bear to refuse a Little Loli’s request?

The excited Little Loli had already slipped down from her chair. She then crawled under the table and came over, standing between Black Cat Huahua and Bran. She looked up with a hopeful face and asked, “Can I pet him now?”

Bran stared at those small hands covered in grease. He nodded with difficulty and sighed at the same time. Then he watched as those small hands grabbed at Huahua without hesitation, leaving two handprints on the black cat’s body.

Bran stopped Huahua’s counterattack in time, which drew a dissatisfied cry from the cat. He said to his sister, “Alright, Huahua is unhappy. Don’t touch him anymore.”

The Little Loli nodded excitedly and agreed with her words. Then one of her small hands restlessly grabbed Huahua’s tail…

Huahua first looked back, then locked eyes with his owner. Dissatisfaction and grievance appeared on this beast in a very human-like way. This made their mother, who had been watching, laugh happily. Soon, this mood spread throughout the dining room. Everyone smiled as they watched.

But what happened next surprised everyone. The Little Loli’s hair began to float upward one by one, fluttering like a light breeze passing through thin gauze. This made the Little Loli let out an excited laugh. The well-informed Duke blurted out, “Mana Resonance.”

A Mana vortex caused by the automatic exchange of Mana between two Awakened individuals who completely trusted each other. This situation was extremely rare. Wariness and caution were human instincts, but complete mutual trust between a pet and its owner seemed reasonable. Resonance, so that meant Bran had also undergone an Awakening. Perhaps Huahua’s Awakening had made the shocked Bran overlook his own change. The Duke laughed happily. Whatever ability Bran had Awakened to, it would at least allow Bran to go further on the path of a Knight, the Duke thought to himself.

Perhaps due to the stimulation from the Resonance, Bran felt a change in his body. He finally understood what the Scholar meant by “your body will tell you…”

Under everyone’s gaze, Bran reached out and picked up the Dinner Knife. He held his breath, focused his mind, and concentrated his consciousness on the Dinner Knife. He could feel an invisible hand extending from his palm along with his consciousness onto the Dinner Knife. Then, along with the movement of his hand, it exerted force together, bending and twisting it. Bran clasped his hands together and began to rub them. When he opened his hands again, a metal ball appeared in Bran’s palm. Bran laughed heartily and placed the iron ball on the table. He slapped it down with his palm. Unfortunately, the iron ball wasn’t flattened into a pancake as he had hoped. When Bran lifted his hand in pain, only the top part of the iron ball had sunk in a bit, nothing more.

At this moment, Bran’s brothers and sisters watched all this with their mouths wide open in amazement…
