712 chapter - Star Ladder (4)
One day after Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint was completed.
There was a time when Ji Eunyeu was busily collecting comment questions for a survey.
Among them, one question stood out for being asked repeatedly.
「How strong is Kim Dokja, anyway?」
Suddenly, I was curious, too.
How strong is Kim Dokja?
When I actually tried to write an answer, I couldn’t tell how strong Kim Dokja was, either.
It was only natural, because in Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, the criterion of strength is a “tale.”
Kim Dokja piled up tales in no particular order and grew stronger as he piled them.
In Part 1, he gathered five tales and became the “Demon King of Salvation.”
In Part 2, he subdued Surya, the god of supreme light, a tale-grade constellation, and obtained his first “grand tale.”
In Part 3, through the 1,863rd round and “Gigantomachia,” he obtained his second grand tale.
In Part 4, he went through the Great War of the Sacred and Demonic and became the youngest of the “Great Sage, Heaven’s Equal” in complete form, thereby completing the rest of the “grand tale.”
At last, in Part 5, Kim Dokja, having reached his own ■■, became this world itself.
What does it mean to become a world.
Is it possible to measure the “strength” of a being {N•o•v•e•l•i•g•h•t} that has become a world.
Even now and even then, I don’t know the answer to that.
I only have something to say regarding “Kim Dokja before becoming a world.”
For example, the Kim Dokja of Part 1 of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint.
Kim Dokja, who became a tale-grade constellation and obtained the epithet “Demon King of Salvation.”
If someone asked, I would express his strength like this.
「“Well. Wouldn’t he be able to sweep away about ten great-figure constellations?”」
And unfortunately, the constellation before my eyes did not get to hear my answer.
[We’ve never heard such a story—]
As if murmuring in disbelief, the incarnation body of ‘One Who Washes Clean’ slowly separated vertically into top and bottom.
[Constellation, ‘One Who Washes Clean,’ suffers a terrible blow to their true body!]
[Constellation, ‘One Who Washes Clean,’ exits the scenario!]
[Constellation, ‘One Who Washes Clean,’ exits the scenario!]
With demi-god advent undone, the incarnation body turned into bare bone and crumbled, and the exit messages of the other two constellations who suffered the same fate rang out in succession.
[Constellation, ‘Survivor of Tragedy,’ exits the scenario!]
[Constellation, ‘The Youth Who Was Wise,’ exits the scenario!]
[Constellation, ‘The Youth Who Was Wise,’ exits the scenario!]
A calamity that occurred in an instant.
The constellations were at a loss for words.
In the form of demi-god advent, one cannot use the full power of a constellation.
But even so, a constellation is a constellation. Beings recognized as stars after gathering no less than five tales.
They were by no means the sort to be taken down so vainly.
[Daughter of the Valkyrie. What is the meaning of this.]
[How, how on earth is that bastard—]
[Everyone, do not panic. At that level, he is far below the tier he originally possesses.]
[Far below? How strong a star was he supposed to be—]
[How, how on earth is that bastard—]
[Everyone, do not panic. At that level, he is far below the tier he originally possesses.]
[Far below? How strong a star was he supposed to be—]
Daughter of the Valkyrie, her expression hardened coldly, answered.
[The final classification rank of the constellation ‘Demon King of Salvation’ was ‘myth-grade.’]
A myth-grade constellation.
At those words, the seven constellations opened their mouths to each other all at once.
[M-myth-grade? Aren’t you mistaken about something?]
[Why did you not inform us of that sooner!]
[Why did you not inform us of that sooner!]
As if he found their agitation amusing, Kim Dokja spoke.
“So you do know a little. Those pitiful great-figure ones look like they came not knowing anything.”
Now the constellations wore expressions like they might scream.
But in truth, it wasn’t a situation where Kim Dokja could be that leisurely, either. I could tell this better than anyone, since I was the one who had lent him my body.
Kududuk.
Even in a situation where we were not receiving the backlash of plausibility, my body was already screaming in places.
The incarnation body wrecked by just a single [Electrification].
This is the “tier” of a tale-grade constellation.
‘Backer Constellation.’
—I know.
With this body, a single [Electrification] is the limit of what can be unleashed.
By contrast, seven great-figure constellations remained.
Even so, Kim Dokja did not lose his composure.
“If you die here, no record will remain. Are you all prepared to disappear cleanly?”
I hoped that at this rate, they’d just get scared and run, but things were not going to resolve so easily.
Daughter of the Valkyrie stepped forward and said,
[Great stars of <Asgard>. There is no need to fear. ‘Myth-grade’ is merely a story from another world line. Right now he is nothing more than a fragment of a discarded god.]
A discarded god. They’d used such an expression earlier, too.
[Already the author’s true body has been ruthlessly torn apart by the great ‘myth-grade constellations.’ He cannot use the power of his prime. Just like the monkey star of the <Emperor>.]
I was a little taken aback.
What the hell was that bastard saying now.
That Kim Dokja’s “true body” was torn?
And that it was the myth-grade constellations who did such a thing?
Could that be.
I couldn’t make sense of it.
Based on the completion of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, Kim Dokja possesses a tier that can be called the absolute of this world, beyond myth-grade constellation.
And such a Kim Dokja suffered?
Are other myth-grade constellations that strong?
I thought of the myth-grade constellations representing each nebula.
For example, Odin, the “One-Eyed Father” of <Asgard>, or the “Seat of Lightning” of <Olympus>, the constellations of the “Final Scenario.”
Even the Kim Dokja of the main story chose to avoid rather than confront them head-on, so their strength was certainly proven.
But that was all before Kim Dokja became “the oldest dream.”
Could Odin or Zeus truly be strong enough to face Kim Dokja, who saw the end of the scenario?
[Fragment of an arrogant god. You are no longer the sole observer of this world.]
What was certain was that the ‘Daughter of the Valkyrie’ before my eyes knew who the ‘Demon King of Salvation’ was.
[Surely you’re not still under the illusion that you can look at and judge this world as you please.]
And that she knew, to some extent, the secret of this world.
‘Backer Constellation. What does that mean. What do you mean the true body is torn?’
I was worried he might dodge the answer, but Kim Dokja answered obediently.
—It’s as the words say. You already know, don’t you. In this world there isn’t only one ‘Kim Dokja.’
‘Then what about “the oldest dream”?’
If what they said was true, then right now, the probability was high that “the oldest dream” did not exist in this world.
Thinking so, there were things that I suddenly understood.
「“The reset button can now be pressed only once. In the next round, everything in this universe will be eternally destroyed.”」
In the recollection I saw through Anna Croft, the Yu Joonghyuk of the 40th round said it. That the 41st round would be the last of his life.
If Yu Joonghyuk had come to know that there was a problem with his backer constellation, and so a problem had occurred in his [Regression], then it was understandable that he would say such words.
But if “the oldest dream” had truly disappeared, then the real problem lay elsewhere.
“Who is observing this world right now?”
All universes exist by the observation of Kim Dokja, who became “the oldest dream.”
But if “the oldest dream” was absent, then who was it that watched this world in his place.
—Kid. You must have many questions right now, but—
As Kim Dokja was about to answer me, the constellations, who had regained their courage, moved to encircle us again.
With a wry smile, Kim Dokja opened his mouth.
“Are you going to keep fighting? Even if I can’t bring out my prime strength, tearing you lot to death is simple.”
[Perhaps so. If your incarnation body were intact.]
Daughter of the Valkyrie, who had at some point changed her tone to honorifics, smiled subtly as her bright pupils gleamed.
Stigma, 「Keen Eyes.」
Like [Character List] or [Sage’s Eye], it is impossible to learn the opponent’s detailed information, but through meticulous observation of the opponent’s breathing and movements, manner of speaking and expressions, it is a technique that analyzes the opponent’s current state.
[Even if you have that much power, your incarnation body is already at its limit. Do you think I wouldn’t know?]
Indeed, <Asgard> did not consist only of idiot constellations.
Having completed a perfect analysis concerning our condition, Daughter of the Valkyrie gave orders to the other constellations.
[Lend me your strength. I will confront the author myself.]
Representing the remaining constellations, Daughter of the Valkyrie stood at the fore.
Presently, the constellations’ star-charts connected, and the tiers of seven constellations focused into a single star.
The aura of ‘Daughter of the Valkyrie,’ which had been wavering red and blue, soon began to blaze fiercely with a pure white light.
「Here yawns the abyss.」
The spear in her hand burned fiercely and a line of tale writhed.
「With the primordial hole between them, the worlds of ice and fire were divided.」
The moment I read that tale, I sank into a low hum. Though it was a short text and not a full-fledged sentence, it was unmistakable.
“Isn’t that a sentence of creation.”
I hadn’t expected <Asgard> to go this far.
To bestow a sentence of creation upon a mere great-figure constellation meant they were that serious about this situation.
—We’ve run into properly crazy bastards.
Even Kim Dokja looked troubled this one time.
From the standpoint of a nebula, great-figure constellations are expendables anyway. If they could capture Kim Dokja by offloading a sentence of creation onto them, it was fully rational consumption for <Asgard>.
[Well then, why don’t you use that technique once more.]
Now [Electrification] can be used only once.
My body had reached its limit, and right now ‘Daughter of the Valkyrie’ had staked her life.
Even if we toppled her with [Electrification], the remaining six stars would simultaneously launch a combined assault on us.
If that happened, it would be the end.
—Don’t worry, kid.
But even before a hair-trigger situation, Kim Dokja was composed.
Drawing in a light breath, Kim Dokja shouted in a voice that rang even louder.
“You really don’t get it. You won’t do. Why don’t you just call stronger constellations?”
[For someone like you, we alone are—]
“Let’s say myth-grade constellations are lazy by nature, but what are the tale-grade constellations all doing? Don’t you have any of the Olympus Twelve Gods-grade constellations? Is this all the clout Asgard has?”
Of course, <Asgard> also has those of the “Olympus Twelve Gods”-grade.
“Guardian of the great horns! The flame of Muspelheim! The god of harp and horn! Where are they all hiding?”
As the epithets of tale-grade constellations flowed one after another from Kim Dokja’s mouth, the constellations, led by ‘Daughter of the Valkyrie,’ flinched.
Enjoying their reaction, Kim Dokja continued.
“Heimdall! Surtr! Tyr! Baldr! Where are you all hiding that you don’t show yourselves? I’m right here! Come catch me!”
Belatedly catching on to the situation, the constellations shouted in anxious voices.
[You dare—]
I, too, was just as anxious.
If those guys are crazy, what are we doing acting crazy on this side, too.
If Heimdall or Surtr, really enraged, actually appeared…
Then a strange thought suddenly flashed through my mind.
Why truly had none of those guys come?
<Asgard> had paid a great plausibility to summon even “Ginnungagap” as a stage. Even in a situation where they had bestowed a sentence of creation, why had they not brought decisive constellations?
To speak plainly, if from the start a big-shot myth-grade constellation like Odin, the “One-Eyed Father,” or Thor, “Thursday’s Thunder,” had come, we would have been reduced to ashes on the spot.
The fact that they could not do so meant…
“Coward Odin! If you want to catch me, come in person!”
When even Odin’s name finally came out of Kim Dokja’s mouth, the constellations of <Asgard> blanched.
[You wretch—!]
Ordinarily, by now lightning should have fallen from the sky.
But the world was as quiet as a mouse.
After looking up at the sky for a moment, Kim Dokja spoke as if mocking that silence.
“You must be scared. Of the scale tilting.”
At those words, the sky ripped and a bolt of lightning crashed down.
Kurooong!
It was the lightning of <Asgard>.
The high-ranking constellations of <Asgard>, who had been silent all along, finally reacted to Kim Dokja’s provocation.
But at that very instant, from the other side of the sky where the lightning struck, there came a sound of something being torn. A terrible roar rang out like a star being erased, and the sky fell quiet again.
The great-figure constellations stared up at that scene with eyes opened wide.
[W-what on earth—]
What had happened was obvious. A constellation of <Asgard> beyond that ‘Ginnungagap’ had raised their tier, and almost simultaneously someone had dealt that star a mortal blow.
But who in the world could do such a thing.
Who could bring down a constellation of <Asgard>, whom no star in this universe could touch.
“When the scale tilts, someone you can’t handle might come.”
Kim Dokja, looking up at the sky with a faraway gaze. Together with him, I looked up at the sky.
The pitch-black sky of Ginnungagap rippled like a black coat, and in that moment, I, too, came to a realization.
I don’t know who “the oldest dream” observing this world is.
I only know one person who would be searching for Kim Dokja more than anyone.
He is a being who does not fear to stand against nebulae.
The one who has dropped the most “stars” in all universes and saw the end of the scenario together with Kim Dokja.
The protagonist of “Eradication Method.”
「Beyond that veil lies the ‘Yu Joonghyuk’ I knew.」
