I would not have revealed myself if you two had not risked interfering. You still have a chance to atone and lessen your master’s punishment. Are you willing?”

Fortunately, Qin Xiao thought quickly and soon came up with a plausible explanation.

“How can that be? Master is devoted to the Demon Race! Everything he does is for our race. My lord, please speak for him!”

Hearing that his master’s actions might damage the Demon Race’s grand plan, Number Two became flustered and quickly begged Qin Xiao for mercy.

If Qin Xiao was a Demon Emperor’s hidden agent, he must belong to one of the upper races, perhaps with even higher status than their master. Such deference depended on status, not cultivation, so Number Two hastily addressed him as “my lord.”

“I naturally do not doubt your master’s loyalty. But what he did was indeed somewhat unnecessary. How do you think I knew you were Charm Demon puppets? How did I know a total of three of you came out? All of these were reported to the Demon Emperor by your master. And the Demon Emperor, fearing unexpected incidents, sent me to subjugate you all. Now, do you finally understand?”

With both fools falling for his story, Qin Xiao continued.

“But Master has not sent us any new assignment?”

Although Number Two was almost entirely convinced, he still had some doubts about why his master hadn’t given any new commands.

“Well… Your master meant to serve our race, but he increased the risk. He has been confined and forbidden to act, so of course he cannot send you new orders. His fate depends on you. Help the Demon Emperor, and your master will earn a reward. Ruin the plan, and he will be severely punished.”

Since these puppets were so blindly loyal, Qin Xiao seized upon that weakness to threaten them.

“We will obey and help the Demon Emperor conquer the Immortal Realm! My lord, what must we do?”
