Afterword

Thank you to everyone who has read this far. Did this volume feel heavy in your hand?

Those of you who read lying on your back must have struggled with the fear of what would happen if you dropped it.

This thirteenth volume was the first Overlord book to pass five hundred pages, and it did so by quite a lot. How did you like the story? I’m happy if even a few of you found it interesting.

But honestly, maybe I should have made this into Parts II and III. When I was editing, my brain got pretty tired reading it all at once. Reading chapters 4 and 5, and then the intermission, is about the right amount before sleeping for the night, I think. How about you?

Oh, and the other great thing about splitting this book in two would have been getting to see more of so-bin’s wonderful illustrations!

But I doubt this will happen again, so it’s not worth thinking about.

I always say that I’m going to write fewer pages, but this time it really was a bit much. The more pages, the longer every stage of the process takes, so the schedule keeps getting pushed. Not only that, but the chance of typos only goes up; there aren’t really any benefits.

My goal for my next book is to go easy on the writer and readers alike.

I’d like to release the next volume in 2019, but I have to write one long thing before that, so there’s no telling what will happen. If you could just leisurely wait, it would help me out. The third season of the anime will be on TV in the meantime, so I hope you’ll enjoy that, too.

I really don’t have much to write in the afterword these days. Back when I was a reader and I saw people saying that they didn’t know what to write in afterwords, I would always think, Write whatever you want as long as you write it, but now that I’m in their shoes, I understand the struggle. What would you all write if you were me? Honestly…I feel like we don’t need afterwords!

As always, many people helped make this possible. Thank you, and I hope you’ll continue to humor me and my work.
