Chapter 12: Youth Campus Romance (Extra I)
Lin Moxi Extra:
Desired yet unattainable—not separated by death, but already separated in life.
As the eldest son of the Lin Family and the most outstanding boy of his generation, he knew from a young age that as long as he smiled, he could obtain whatever he desired. He could smile gently, or smile heartily, as long as he showed his sunny side. An elegant gentleman, gentle like ink; this was how others viewed him and how he positioned himself. He stood so firmly in this position that he didn’t even have the courage to fight for what he desired.
He had always been considered a worthy successor, the top junior in the eyes of his elders. However, he had never imagined that one day he would yearn for something and be unable to attain it. Without even taking the first step to pursue it, he had already missed his opportunity.
Whether he was facing Song Qingxin or Dongfang Yi, he could always tell himself that he had been the one to discover Miao Lichen first. That encounter at the school gate, the dissipation of his gloomy aura, all proved that he was something special to Miao Lichen. He could only use this thought to comfort himself. But why was it Song Qingxin who won his love? And why was it Dongfang Yi who witnessed his end and earned the right to protect him? He seemed shut out of their world.
One weekend tore away feelings he hadn’t even had time to come to terms with, leaving only emptiness. He even thought he might die, or perhaps fall asleep alongside him. That’s right, sleep. He couldn’t understand what had happened or why someone so healthy would suddenly end up lying in a hospital bed.
By the time he heard about what happened, a week had passed since Miao Lichen disappeared. He had never imagined the next time he would see him would be in the ICU. He wasn’t there for him during his most dangerous time, so was he qualified to say he loved him?
Lin Moxi gently touched the sleeping boy’s skin. It appeared even paler. The healthy flush he had worked so hard to restore had also faded during this prolonged sleep. If he woke up, Lin Moxi would have to help him regain his health all over again.
Ever since Miao Lichen fell into a coma, all Lin Moxi wanted was to stay by his side, hoping that one day he would open his eyes and explain to him why he was lying here. He never believed what Dongfang Yi or Song Qingxin told him. How could Miao Lichen, who had once spoken of his love for beautiful flowers, die for love because of Song Qingxin?
And if it had truly been a suicide attempt, why didn’t the Miao Family butler protect Song Qingxin when Dongfang Yi attacked her? He could see that the old man loved him like a son. Even if he didn’t personally like Song Qingxin, he would protect his young master’s love, staying true to Miao Lichen’s final decision.
He didn’t know the whole story; he could only bear witness to this hopeless outcome. Dongfang Yi had guarded him closely ever since he fell into a coma, even visitors from the Miao Family required his permission. It was then that he realized Dongfang Yi’s feelings for Miao Lichen mirrored his own. Dongfang Yi’s possessiveness made it difficult for Lin Moxi to even spend an hour with Miao Lichen.
Hearing footsteps outside the room, Lin Moxi knew his time with him today was up. He gently kissed his forehead and said, “My dear A’chen, see you tomorrow.”
Dongfang Yi Extra:
The most painful thing wasn’t desiring something and not getting it, but realizing what you want only after you’ve lost the chance to get it.
What was love? A young master like him didn’t know. He only knew that as long as he liked something, he would get it. From childhood to adulthood, he had never failed to obtain what he wanted, even if it was a person.
Song Qingxin, a girl unlike any of the noble girls he knew, caught his eye. Since he found her appearance fairly pleasing, Dongfang Yi decided to allow her to be his girlfriend. Once he made the decision, he naturally had to act on it. The next day, he entered Class G, a place he had previously been unwilling to step foot in, with a bouquet of carefully selected roses. He still felt grateful for that decision, otherwise he wouldn’t have known Miao Lichen.
If he were asked where he saw the most beautiful rose, he would answer without hesitation the one in Miao Lichen’s hand. Standing under the cherry blossom tree with the roses in his arms, he resembled a beautiful painting. Even now, the memory pains him. Without the hope those roses had given him, would he still be the silent autistic person lost in his own world?
Even if that were the case, he did not regret giving the roses. What he regretted was that the sunshine who had broken into Miao Lichen’s world was Song Qingxin, that pretender, instead of him. No matter how he looked at it, a young master like him looked more like sunshine than Song Qingxin. His interest in Miao Lichen probably started then.
‘Admit it, Dongfang Yi.’
That gloomy and cold looking boy with gentle eyes had caught his attention since then.
That was why he had followed them into the infirmary like a stalker, under the guise of concern for his fellow students. But when has Dongfang Yi ever shown concern for other students? He did not care about other people’s judgment of him; he knew his arrogance was ingrained in him.
He watched as Miao Lichen carefully organized the roses despite being injured. Watched as he delicately placed a petal into the medical book he carried with him. He didn’t know what he felt at the time, but he knew he was just staring foolishly, unsure of how to react. Perhaps he simply couldn’t believe that emotions this intense existed. To put oneself aside for a lifeless object, simply because of the connection it had with someone else.
It later became a habit. He watched as Miao Lichen grew closer to Lin Moxi and Song Qingxin, and consistently gave roses to her. He was aware that the roses he gave to Song Qingxin would ultimately end up with Miao Lichen, but he continued to do so. He even felt a strange sense of pleasure when he saw the carefully arranged roses on the bookshelf. Perhaps subconsciously, he already knew his feelings were growing, and it brought him a dangerous feeling. So he subconsciously avoided him.
He focused all his attention on the girl he chose to court. Accustomed to always getting what he wanted, he decided to forgo small gestures and make a grand gesture instead. Predictably, the extravagant confession moved Song Qingxin, the girl who had never shown him any positive attention. She agreed to give him a chance, but he chuckled to himself. What woman could he not get? In that moment, he felt that she was no different from the others and was just as shallow.
When he watched him walk down the red carpet, with a hint of danger in his smile, he wondered if it was a challenge. Dongfang Yi had never been afraid of challenges; he was eager to see what would happen. As their eyes met, he felt a special pleasure because, at that moment, his eyes only held him. Not Song Qingxin, nor Lin Moxi.
The sight of Miao Lichen and Lin Moxi holding hands was an eyesore, but that minor flaw was something he could overlook. He suppressed the hint of displeasure in his heart. As the arrogant Young Master Dongfang Yi, admired by many, he would not feel jealousy, an emotion he believed only women experienced.
He secretly followed them to a plain, unassuming cabin and watched as they played the piano. It was surprising to see the graceful Young Master Lin Moxi playing “Phoenix Seeks its Mate” for another man. Love between men? He couldn’t deny that Miao Lichen had the charm to captivate other men. However, as Miao Lichen played a melancholic tune, he couldn’t help but sneer. He wasn’t a woman, so why was he becoming so emotional over something so trivial? He suppressed the bitterness in his heart with the sneer.
Then he was caught. Of course, he had no intention of hiding. Otherwise, considering this guy’s lack of vigilance, how could he have noticed him? He followed him to the cafeteria he had never entered before and bought the simple meal he had never eaten before. He simply regarded it as experiencing poverty firsthand.
He didn’t order any of the exquisite dishes at the cafeteria, but instead ordered from the nearly deserted first-floor cafeteria for ordinary diners. Did he do it with malicious intent? However, he later learned that Miao Lichen simply didn’t know there was a dedicated restaurant upstairs. After all, as an autistic person who always had his food delivered, he would not have known about the hierarchical structure of the cafeteria.
That day was probably the least glamorous day of his life. Not only did he scowl as he ate the unpalatable vegetables, but he also blushed when he was fed. Although he didn’t admit to being fed at that time, it was a simple gesture. At the time, Dongfang Yi insisted they were only friends. Friend, how laughable. How could those emotions be considered friendship? He really wished he could return to that time and hug the kind Miao Lichen.
Later, he learned from his subordinates that Miao Lichen and Song Qingxin had spent an entire day together at the amusement park. He had even booked the entire place for her. In that instant, rage nearly consumed his reason, mingled with unbearable bitterness. Hmph, she was just a woman. Since she tried to deceive him, she should be prepared for his wrath.
He did not rush over when he saw the two of them together the next day. Perhaps it was because the gentle expression Miao Lichen wore for Song Qingxin was different from the one he showed everyone else. Song Qingxin was special to Miao Lichen, and only she could make him show this kind of warm expression. It was a deeply unpleasant conclusion.
He watched as the two of them stepped off the Ferris wheel, observing Miao Lichen use himself to protect Song Qingxin. In the process, his clothes became rumpled, and he even got groped by some girls who were watching him. A surge of anger welled up within him, but it quickly dissipated when Miao Lichen flashed a bright smile. He simply gripped the steering wheel tightly to calm his pounding heart. Before he could process the reason for his racing heart, Miao Lichen drove away, leaving him no time to dwell.
He ignored his chauffeur’s pleas and sped up to catch up. He hadn’t realized that Miao Lichen was such a racing expert, capable of driving at breakneck speeds up the mountain without causing Song Qingxin to scream. Because the mountain roads were so deserted, he didn’t dare to chase closely. By the time he reached the top, he only found the car while the two of them had already boarded the helicopter.
His heartbeat had been very erratic and he asked in a casual manner what lay below. He did not wait there to catch them in the act, but went down the mountain. He had just reached the artificial lake when he saw Miao Lichen hugging Song Qingxin as they free-fell. That despicable woman had even tried to use him as a human cushion. Damn it.
The moment the water splashed, he disregarded his clothes and leaped into the lake. Sensing the depth, he felt a wave of relief. A lake almost five meters deep should be able to support Miao Lichen’s fall. As he carried him ashore, he didn’t even glance at that hypocritical woman. It would be best if she didn’t know how to swim and faced the consequences of her actions.
He quickly checked Miao Lichen’s breathing, cleared his airway as best he could, and then began CPR for the first time in his life.
‘My love, when you wake up, I will show you a beautiful courtship.’ he thought. But it was futile. Rising with a touch of annoyance, he realized that the hand holding his head was stained with blood. He imagined his eyes must have been as red as the blood on his hands. After all, that hypocrite had been so scared that she ran back into the lake.
But he didn’t have time to think about her, as he wanted to save the person in his arms. He took him to the Fu Family hospital, which had been related to his Dongfang Family for many generations, making them very reliable. After waiting for a day and night, the news he received was that the head injury wasn’t serious, but the person was unwilling to wake up. It was just a damn woman, how could he be inferior to her?
‘Miao Lichen, since you provoked me, don’t even think about letting go.’
He maintained a firm grip over everything at the Fu Family Hospital. Even members of the Miao Family had to obtain his permission before they were allowed to visit. After a month of overseeing Miao Lichen’s care, his butler presented Dongfang Yi with a notebook, saying he wasn’t sure whether its contents might help wake him up. And what did he find inside? Page after page filled with thoughts of Song Qingxin, his sunshine. Miao Lichen had not only designed a wedding dress for her—later altered into an ordinary dress—but had clearly dreamed of marrying her.
Didn’t he want to marry her? Then Dongfang Yi would make sure she did. So he forced Song Qingxin to drop out of school, then found a semi-wealthy middle-aged man to marry her. For her vain household, this was simply great news.
‘That’s right, beasts can pretend to be princes when dressed accordingly. So what if she refuses?’
He then sent someone to “invite” the married Song Qingxin to the hospital and told her to find a way to wake him up. Even if Miao Lichen woke up, they couldn’t be together. After all, he was severely mysophobic.
But it was no use. Lin Moxi and Song Qingxin visited him for a month, but their efforts were completely futile. He only allowed them to visit for an hour each day, as that was his limit. As Dongfang Yi stared at the man in the hospital bed, his gaze grew increasingly menacing before finally giving way to a helpless sigh.
‘Well, if you want to keep sleeping, then sleep. I will be standing here, waiting for you to wake up, my love.’ Gently taking one of his hands, he kissed the ring on his ring finger. ‘What I want, I have never failed to get. Therefore, you will be mine, and only mine.’
Tears streamed down from his unchanging arrogant eyes, dripping onto the ring and sliding down his hand. It was a love that ran so deep, yet had arrived far too late.
PS: This isn’t love kids, just pure possessiveness. Don’t mimic
