Chapter 13: Youth Campus Romance (Extra II)

Song Qingxin Extra:

Does one wrong choice lead to a lifetime of regret? She didn’t believe it did. She believed there would be a second chance and that all suffering would eventually come to an end.

That day marked the beginning of her good fortune, and she still believed that even now. How many people could win the grand prize at the mall? And how many commoners would ever have the chance to enroll at Imperial Noble High School, where almost all the students were wealthy? Song Qingxin was the only one in a hundred years.

Seeing the smiles on her parents’ faces and the flattery of her other relatives, she knew what they were thinking. Didn’t entering a school filled with wealthy students mean her future partner would also be a wealthy man? According to her family, she should land a wealthy husband.

But she didn’t want to do that. She wanted to trample those wealthy people beneath her. Why were they born superior to others? Commoners could also rise above them. They were nothing more than people lucky enough to be born into wealth, and she looked down on them.

Even if she enrolled in Imperial Noble High School, she wouldn’t allow the decadent aura of wealth to taint her. Song Qingxin would always be just Song Qingxin, and never the girlfriend or wife of so and so.

Running into Dongfang Yi was a surprise. He exuded an air of wealth and decadence, and looked down arrogantly on everyone he encountered. She found him utterly insufferable. The more she ignored him, the more he pestered her. He was truly a repulsive man.

Though he appeared arrogant, he pursued girls in the most vulgar way, giving them expensive and impractical roses. Those roses were meant to be admired briefly and would eventually wilt. Only the wealthy could afford to spend so extravagantly on such items. In a fit of anger, she casually handed the roses to the boy who had been staring at them, not even knowing his name at the time.

When she saw him again, he was with Lin Moxi, her childhood playmate. During their childhood, she had always thought he was of the same status as she was, only for him to turn out to be a rich man. She was greatly shocked. Even so, her childhood feelings for him did not change. She thought that was what love felt like. The boy who was always a gentleman stood out among all the other boys who only knew how to roll around, and he had long captured her heart.

Since she liked him, she decided to pursue him in her own way, so she approached him. Her slightly flushed cheeks betrayed her inner emotions, revealing that she wasn’t as calm as she tried to appear. her childhood feelings for him did not change, Miao Lichen. Little did she know at that time that this man would become the greatest calamity of her life.

Miao Lichen always appeared aloof, yet whenever he looked at someone, his eyes carried an unconscious tenderness that was impossible to resist. He was not like Lin Moxi, whose kindness always came with a sense of alienation, nor like Dongfang Yi who imposed his warmth on others. Miao Lichen was gentle, like spring rain softly moistening the world. She didn’t notice it at first, but once she did, it was irresistible.

She did not know how she had made Miao Lichen fall for her, but now it was the only thing she could remember. The only happiness that kept her going, even though she still didn’t love him as he hoped for.

Sometimes she wondered: if she hadn’t been drawn in by Dongfang Yi’s overbearing possessiveness, would things have been different? Could many things have been different, and she could have had a perfect future with Miao Lichen? She had never been able to resist the pursuit of someone so gentle.

Unfortunately, there were no “ifs.” As she looked around the room that was becoming wealthier and wealthier, and then at her own increasingly fair and youthful face, she couldn’t accept her current life. Even though she had no worries about food or clothing, even though she didn’t have to live as thriftily as before, her husband never understood romance. Nor would he understand youth.

She would probably never forget the day, when they spent a whole day at the amusement park with just the two of them. It became the only beautiful memory of her youth. Her youth was too short, as she was married soon after Miao Lichen fell into a coma. Even though she had been forced into this marriage, what was done was done.

She just wanted her own happiness, so why was she punished like this? Didn’t Dongfang Yi love her? Why did he use his family power to force her out of school, then presumptuously arrange her future? She did not know the reason before, but now she knew and wished she had never known.

Miao Lichen fell into a coma, not because of the severity of his injuries but because he didn’t want to wake up. He was like a vegetable, but the difference was that he could hear people talking around him. It was only then that she realized how much he valued her, as she was his everything. She had truly been wrong.

Due to his coma, Dongfang Yi summoned Lin Moxi and her to spend an hour with him every day. At some point, a ring appeared on his ring finger, but she didn’t think much of it. A ring alone didn’t hold much significance, but it couldn’t quell her curiosity.

Miao Lichen loved her so much, how could he propose to someone else? She didn’t know whether he had been wearing a ring during their time at the amusement park, but she instinctively felt that he hadn’t. All she remembered were his cool, silky white gloves. Given his personality, if he had a fiancée, he wouldn’t have taken her out on a date even if he didn’t like his fiancée.

When had she come to know him so well, and what was the point of thinking about it now?

Until one day, she saw the same ring on Dongfang Yi’s finger and watched as he kissed it with near fascination. She didn’t know how much willpower it took to suppress her urge to scream. A ring on the ring finger, even if she wanted to find another excuse for it, she couldn’t.

‘So, this is the final answer.’

Dongfang Yi loved Miao Lichen, and Miao Lichen loved Song Qingxin. That was why he arranged her marriage while Miao Lichen remained asleep, probably wanting him all to himself when he woke up. Dongfang Yi’s possessiveness was frightening, but he seemed to overlook one crucial detail. What would happen if Miao Lichen discovered that he had orchestrated her marriage? He would despise Dongfang Yi forever!

The girl he loved was forced to marry someone she didn’t love, and the culprit disgustingly loved him. She knew her expression was distorted, perhaps even more than when she learned that Dongfang Yi had forced her into the marriage. Perhaps it was because she truly did love this arrogant boy before, and this love only strengthened her resentment.

‘Why did he control my life?’ She only wanted to find her own happiness. Maybe her pursuit of happiness blocked his way?

She didn’t know why she became calm later. She no longer felt hysterical hatred towards Dongfang Yi, instead it was a strange sense of pleasure. Every day, she diligently spoke to Miao Lichen about things that could wake him. Though they didn’t share many memories, when she was alone with him, many small details of the past she had ignored would constantly resurface. So aside from talking about their past, she added one more thing to her routine: to say to him, “I love you.”

Since he loved her, only her words could awaken him. Just like in fairy tales, the prince’s kiss awakens the princess. Her finger gently traced Miao Lichen’s lips and she felt a surge of desire. As a woman now, she knew what that desire was. She bent over slightly, but abruptly stood up. A split second chill made her recoil, her face twisting in discomfort. But there was no one around.

She slowly walked out of the room and looked up at the bright sun outside the window. Her life could not be filled with only darkness, so she could only hold onto Miao Lichen tightly. Lin Moxi’s family had no power to compete against Dongfang Yi, so only Miao Lichen could save her. Even if his family wasn’t as strong as Dongfang Yi’s, Dongfang Yi’s feelings alone gave Miao Lichen power over him.

‘Dongfang Yi, since you ruined my life, then don’t blame me for ruining yours.’

Turning around, she saw the familiar smiling face. She wasn’t sure if it was an illusion, but she felt that Lin Moxi’s smile was starting to resemble Miao Lichen’s more and more. Maybe it was just a trick of the mind, because he only smiled as warmly as Miao Lichen did in the hospital.

She nodded goodbye to him. Since he had arrived, it meant it was her time to go. Since each of them was only allowed an hour with Miao Lichen each day, there was little opportunity to try other potentially effective methods. She wondered if the chill she felt came from Lin Moxi. Lin Moxi and her superficial childhood feelings made her feel like her entire life was a joke.

Fairy tales will always remain just that, fairy tales that never become reality. If she had known it would be the last time she could see Miao Lichen, she wouldn’t have left so readily. She didn’t understand what Dongfang Yi thought could awaken Miao Lichen, as he no longer sent anyone to invite her to the hospital. How could she accept that? That her only hope in life was slipping away? She was not willing to accept her fate.

She tried numerous times to approach his hospital room and was caught each time. Initially, she was politely sent back to the place she now called home. Later, bruises began appearing on her body, but she didn’t care. As long as Miao Lichen woke up, she would take revenge. Whether it was the physical harm they inflicted on her or the way their master had manipulated her life, she would definitely pay it all back!

With a small smile, she embraced the plump body pressed against hers, suppressing the disgust in her heart. She spoke sweet words she would never have uttered before, aiming to please this man who could have been her father. Later he would forgive her once more for the mistake of running to the hospital. Her only weapon now was her own body.

One day… one day she would take revenge.

When she returned to the hospital, it wasn’t just for Miao Lichen, but for her increasingly strange body. She had a vague idea of what was happening, but she couldn’t believe it. If it was truly what she suspected, she wondered if Miao Lichen would still accept her after finding out; that she was a woman who had once carried another man’s child.

In the end, she hardened her heart and decided to abort the child. She refused to allow any possibility of destroying her beautiful future. Even though the child was innocent, their father was the culprit. If their father had not agreed to marry her on Dongfang Yi’s orders, how could her life have become so tragic? She felt ashamed even being seen in public with her husband. Only a man like Miao Lichen was worthy of her!

Following that was endless darkness. She was under house arrest in a place without sunlight. The only thing she looked forward to every day was the visit from the man who was now her husband. But she would not surrender. She would not forget Miao Lichen, the only one who gave her love.

‘Miao Lichen, you’ll come save me, right? You loved me so much—you’ll surely wake up to save me. I will wait for you…’
