Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Training
Daniel stepped into the sparring ring. The sand was soft beneath his feet. The morning sun was warm on his face. A gentle breeze drifted through the training grounds, carrying the smell of sweat and dust.
Paul stood across from him. His posture was relaxed. His arms were at his sides. He looked calm. Confident.
"Alright," Paul said. "Let’s see what you can do."
Daniel nodded. He raised his fists. He settled into a fighting stance.
Paul raised an eyebrow. "That’s your stance?"
"What’s wrong with it?"
"It’s... basic. Very basic. Who taught you?"
"No one. I just picked it up."
Paul sighed. "Okay. We’ll work on that. First, let’s see your speed. Attack me."
Daniel lunged forward. He threw a punch. Fast. Strong.
Paul dodged. He moved like the wind. Literally. A gust carried him to the side. Daniel’s fist sailed through empty air.
"Good speed," Paul said. "Good power. But your form is sloppy. You telegraph your punches."
Daniel threw another punch. Paul dodged again.
"See? Your shoulder twitches before you strike. It gives away your intention."
Daniel threw a kick. Paul ducked under it.
"Your hips rotate too early. Anyone with training will see it coming."
Daniel stepped back. He was breathing hard. Not from exhaustion. From frustration.
"You’re reading me too easily," he said.
Paul nodded. "Because you’re easy to read. You fight like someone who’s never been taught. You rely on instinct and raw stats. That works against weak opponents. But against someone skilled, you’ll lose."
Daniel nodded. He understood. He had power. He had speed. But he lacked technique.
"Teach me," he said.
Paul smiled. "That’s what I’m here for."
---
They trained for hours.
Paul taught Daniel the basics. Footwork. Positioning. How to read an opponent’s movements. How to feint. How to counter.
Daniel listened. He absorbed. He practiced. He repeated the drills until his muscles ached.
Lyra watched from the edge of the ring. She was sitting on a bench. Fluffy was beside her, eating a piece of meat.
"He’s getting better," Lyra said.
Fluffy nodded. "Master is strong."
"He is. But he’s also stubborn. He keeps trying to do things his own way."
Fluffy tilted her head. "Is that bad?"
Lyra smiled. "No. It’s just... him."
---
Paul called for a break. Daniel collapsed onto the bench beside Lyra. He was sweating. His muscles were sore. But he was smiling.
"That was good," he said.
Paul sat down across from them. He was barely winded. "You have potential. You just need practice."
Daniel nodded. He looked at Lyra. "Your turn."
Lyra blinked. "What?"
"Your turn. You need training too."
Lyra hesitated. "I don’t know..."
"You’re a Gunslinger. You have skills. But you need to learn how to fight. How to move. How to avoid attacks."
Lyra looked at Paul. He nodded.
"He’s right," Paul said. "Your class is ranged. But if someone gets close, you need to defend yourself."
Lyra took a breath. Then she stood up.
"Okay," she said. "Teach me."
---
Paul trained Lyra for the next hour. He taught her footwork. How to create distance. How to use her speed to her advantage.
Lyra was a quick learner. She absorbed everything. Her movements became smoother. More fluid.
Then Paul taught her something new.
"You have mana," he said. "You have skills. But you also have the ability to channel mana into your body. To enhance your movements. Your reflexes."
Lyra frowned. "I can do that?"
"Everyone can. It just takes practice." Paul raised his hand. Wind swirled around his fingers. "Mages channel mana into spells. Warriors channel mana into their bodies. You can do both."
Lyra nodded. She focused. She tried to feel the mana inside her.
"Imagine it as a river," Paul said. "Flowing through your veins. Direct it to your legs. Your arms. Your eyes."
Lyra closed her eyes. She focused. She felt something. A warmth. A tingling sensation.
Then she opened her eyes. They were sharper. Clearer. She could see every detail. Every grain of sand. Every bead of sweat on Paul’s forehead.
"Whoa," she whispered.
Paul smiled. "Good. Now try to move."
Lyra took a step. Then another. She was faster. Lighter. Her body responded instantly to her commands.
"This is amazing," she said.
Daniel watched from the bench. He was grinning.
"She’s a natural," he said.
Fluffy nodded. She was still eating her meat. "Pretty lady is strong."
"She is."
---
The training continued until midday. The sun was high now. The training grounds were hot. Adventurers retreated to the shade, drinking water and resting.
Daniel, Lyra, and Paul sat under a tree. Fluffy was curled up on Daniel’s lap. Her eyes were closed. Her tail twitched occasionally.
"So," Paul said. "What’s next?"
Daniel thought about it. "We need contribution points. We need to rank up."
Paul nodded. "The mission board. You should take some F rank missions. Easy ones. Build up your points."
Daniel nodded. "What about you?"
Paul shrugged. "I’m C rank. I can take higher missions. But I can help you with yours if you want."
Daniel raised an eyebrow. "You’d do that?"
"Sure. It’s more fun than training alone."
Daniel smiled. "Thanks."
Paul nodded. He stood up. He stretched his arms above his head.
"I’m going to get some food," he said. "You coming?"
Daniel shook his head. "In a minute. I need to check something."
Paul nodded and walked away. Daniel looked at Lyra. She was sitting beside him. Her eyes were closed. She was tired. But she was smiling.
"How do you feel?" Daniel asked.
"Good," Lyra said. "Tired. But good."
Daniel nodded. He looked at his status screen.

He read the words. He had skills. He had power. But he needed more. He needed to level up. He needed to get stronger.
He closed the screen. He looked at the sky. At the clouds drifting by.
"Tomorrow," he said. "We start taking missions."
Lyra nodded. "Tomorrow."
Fluffy stirred on his lap. She mumbled something about meat. Then she went back to sleep.
Daniel smiled. He leaned back against the tree. He closed his eyes.
For now, this was enough.
