The three girls attacked all together.

Fluffy moved first. She disappeared into the shadows, her body dissolving into darkness. She reappeared behind Benjamin, her daggers flashing. The blades scraped against his wind barrier. Sparks flew. She didn’t penetrate, but she left a mark.

Benjamin spun. He threw a wind blade. Fluffy disappeared. The blade passed through empty air.

Lyra fired. Two shots. Both aimed at Benjamin’s chest. He raised his hand. A wind wall formed. The bullets stopped. They fell to the ground.

Cheeky raised her hand. Metal formed around her. Daggers. Spikes. They shot forward. Benjamin dodged. He countered with a wind blast. Cheeky raised a metal shield. The blast shattered it. She flew backward. She crashed into a rock.

Fluffy appeared again. This time to Benjamin’s left. She slashed. He blocked. She disappeared. She reappeared to his right. She slashed. He blocked. She disappeared.

Lyra fired again. Three shots. Benjamin dodged two. The third grazed his shoulder. He winced. He regenerated.

Cheeky stood up. She was bruised. But she was still fighting. She raised both hands. Metal swirled around her. A storm of blades. She threw them all.

Benjamin raised a wind wall. The blades hit. They shattered. They fell. But some got through. They cut his arms. His legs. His face. He bled. He regenerated.

Fluffy appeared above him. She dropped down. Her daggers aimed at his head. He raised his hand. A wind blast. She disappeared. She reappeared behind him. She kicked. He stumbled. She disappeared.

The fight continued.

Daniel sat down beside Paul.

He crossed his legs. He rested his chin on his hand. He watched the fight with a calm, interested expression.

"So," he said. "Who do you think will win?"

Paul looked at him. His face was still a mess. His body was still broken. But he was awake. He was watching.

"I bet my sister that the cute elf girl will win," Paul said.

Daniel raised an eyebrow. "Cheeky?"

"Yeah. She seems nice."

"She tried to kill Fluffy."

Paul blinked. "What?"

"She attacked Fluffy. Tried to kill her. Fluffy convinced me to give her a chance."

Paul stared at him. His expression shifted. From interest to disgust.

"Never mind," he said. "She seems terrible."

Daniel laughed. "Yeah. But she’s trying."

"Trying to what? Kill us?"

"Trying to be better."

Paul shook his head.

"I bet on Fluffy." Daniel said

Paul smiled. "Good luck."

"What are you betting?"Paul said

Daniel thought about it. "I don’t know. What do you want?"

Paul looked at him. A sly grin spread across his face.

"Ask my sister out."

Daniel blinked. "What?"

"Ask Elara out. On a date."

Daniel stared at him. "You want me to ask your sister out?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because she’s single. And she’s lonely. And she needs someone."

Daniel looked at Elara. She was standing near the edge of the clearing. Her body was broken. Her mana was gone. But she was watching the fight. Her eyes were sharp. Her posture was tense.

She was beautiful. Even with the bruises. Even with the blood. Even with the exhaustion.

Daniel smiled. "I would pay a million gold to ask her out."

Elara heard him. Her head snapped toward him. Her face went red.

"What?" she said.

Daniel looked at her. His smile widened. "Nothing."

"You said you would pay a million gold to ask me out."

"I did."

"Why?"

"Because you’re beautiful."

Elara’s face went redder. She looked away. She crossed her arms. She tried to look angry. She failed.

Paul laughed. "Smooth."

Daniel shrugged. "I try."

Elara shook her head. She looked at the fight. At Fluffy. At Lyra. At Cheeky. At Benjamin.

"You should go join them," she said. "They need help."

Daniel looked at the fight. At Fluffy. At her daggers. At her speed. At her skill.

"They’ll be alright," he said. "Probably."

"Probably?"

"Yeah. Probably."

Elara stared at him. "That’s not reassuring."

"It’s not meant to be."

Benjamin was getting overwhelmed.

Lyra was relentless. She fired. She reloaded. She fired again. Her aim was true. Her hands were steady. She kept Benjamin moving. Kept him dodging. Kept him off balance.

Cheeky was precise. She controlled metal. She threw blades. She formed shields. She created spikes. She kept Benjamin guessing. Kept him defensive. Kept him distracted.

Benjamin was bleeding. From a dozen wounds. From a hundred cuts. He regenerated. But slower each time.

Fluffy was the most skilled. The most talented. She was the only one doing close combat. She was the only one getting close. And she hadn’t been hit once.

"Stop running!" Benjamin shouted.

Fluffy reappeared to his left. She kicked. He blocked. She disappeared.

"Fight me!"

Fluffy reappeared above him. She dropped down. Her daggers aimed at his head. He raised his hand. A wind wall. She bounced off. She landed on the ground. She disappeared.

Benjamin screamed. He was bleeding. He was tired. He was frustrated.

"You can’t beat me!" he shouted. "I can regenerate! I can heal! I can—"

Fluffy appeared in front of him.

She was close. Inches away. Her daggers were raised. Her eyes were cold.

"Fluffy can wait," she said.

She slashed.

Benjamin’s arm flew off.

He screamed. Blood sprayed. He stumbled back. He clutched the stump. He regenerated. His arm grew back. But slower this time. Much slower.

Fluffy smiled. A cold, dangerous smile.

"Fluffy can wait," she repeated.

She disappeared.
