Volume 1, Chapter 10 – You’re Trying to Build a Human Here?
Anran rolled up the blanket and held it over her head. At the very least, it would keep any falling pebbles from cracking her skull.
“Rumble!”
The noise grew louder and clearer, and the room shook more and more violently. Anran could tell the sound was coming from underground.
“Hey, are you okay?”
Anran called through the wall.
But there was no response from the other side.
“She didn’t get crushed to death, did she?” Anran muttered to herself.
Bang!
Crack!
A stone suddenly burst out from the side wall. Even though the blanket blocked part of her view, Anran still saw it. She immediately dropped flat to the floor. Luckily, it missed her.
“Oh no. Am I really going to get killed by an earthquake? Don’t screw me over like this. Wasn’t I supposed to be some future big boss? The players haven’t even descended yet. How can I die just like this?”
At that moment, Anran’s inner monologue was a complete mess. She stood up, only to see that the light fixture that had just been installed had been smashed to pieces by that rock.
The glass cover shattered and scattered all over the floor.
What a tragedy.
Broken again.
Ring, ring, ring!
Just as she was thinking that, a deafening alarm suddenly blared from the corridor outside. Through the iron-barred window, she could see red lights flashing nonstop.
“Alert! Alert!”

Voices were rising everywhere. Even with the piercing alarm, Anran could still make out what they were shouting.
Who cares about an alert during an earthquake? Open the damn door already!
“Rumble!”
Another tremendous blast went off at that moment, as if it had exploded right beside her. The sheer noise made Anran’s ears ring instantly. Clutching her ears, she crouched on the floor as the ground shook and the room swayed. Debris kept falling onto the blanket. Only after quite a while did things finally calm down.
Struggling to her feet, Anran discovered that several cracks had split across the hard wall. Even the lock on the thick iron door had been shaken slightly loose. The once-clean room was now covered in dust and rubble, looking like a garbage dump.
“The deployment map is tucked into the inner compartment of the bag. They took it away. If nothing went wrong, it should be in the warehouse now.”
Anran heard the woman next door speaking.
She had thought the woman was dead.
“We don’t have much time. We break out under covering fire, grab the item, and leave immediately. Otherwise we’ll be surrounded.” This voice was rough and burly.
“Five minutes. Fast and clean,” said another man coldly.
“If only we had heavy weapons. Then this wouldn’t be such a hassle.”
Click.
“Ready?”
“Let’s go!”
“Follow me.”
Bang!
The voices stopped abruptly. Then came heavy, dense footsteps. Anran pressed herself against the wall. Less than five seconds later, gunfire suddenly erupted outside.

Rat-tat-tat!
Bang!
“Aaaah!”
So this wasn’t an earthquake at all. That had definitely been a bomb explosion just now.
The apocalyptic drama had suddenly switched into a heart-pounding cops-and-robbers shootout inside a police station.
The realism of [Night of the Stars] was terrifying.
Anran had never expected the woman next door to be this fierce.
She leaned against the wall and pressed her right hand against it. With only a slight push, the bricks behind it actually came loose and fell away.
Anran quickly turned around. A hole had appeared in the cracked wall, just enough for her to see into the next room.
That room looked like a trash heap too, but the difference was that a large corner of it had collapsed, revealing a hole leading downward. Had that group come up through there?
Anran fixed her gaze on the opening. The crumbling wall looked like it would collapse with one push, which meant she could escape from this sealed room. But with bullets flying everywhere outside, staying inside still seemed safer.
Being a coward for a while wasn’t a problem. Just don’t be a coward forever.
Just as Anran was about to turn around, a dark shadow suddenly flashed before her eyes. Then a pair of wide-open eyes abruptly popped into view, sharp and bloodshot, carrying an intimidating force.
“Holy shit…”
Anran quickly took a step back.
Appearing in the hole in the wall was a scar-faced man with a stiff expression.
Click.
The sound of a bullet being chambered made Anran’s heart skip a beat. This guy wasn’t some homicidal maniac, was he? As an NPC, she might only have one life. How could she just throw it away here so easily?

“You heard what we said just now.” The scar-faced man spoke, and his voice was unexpectedly masculine.
“No, no, no, I didn’t hear anything.” Anran hurriedly waved her hands.
The scar-faced man chuckled.
The deployment map was the key to the organization’s next move. The information absolutely could not be leaked.
Whether this girl had heard it or not, to be safe, she had to die.
The scar-faced man lifted his foot and kicked the wall. With a crash, dust flew everywhere, and a huge hole instantly opened up in it.
He tightened his grip on the gun in his right hand and stepped over the low ledge.
All it would take was one bang, and a young girl in the flower of youth would die here.
That was bound to be entertaining.
A smile hung on the scar-faced man’s lips. What kind of good person would be locked up in a holding cell? This thrill of executing evil was so intoxicating that he couldn’t get enough of it.
One word: satisfying!
But he had no intention of shooting the girl dead right away. Only by tormenting evil could he feel true ecstasy.
That’s right. The scar-faced man was a complete psychopath.
Smack!
An object suddenly flew out of the dust straight at him. The smile on the scar-faced man’s face froze at once, but it was too late to dodge. He could only instinctively raise his hand. The sharp object slammed hard into the back of it. It was a rock Anran had thrown.
“Hiss!”
The scar-faced man sucked in a breath. The back of his hand had been cut open by the jagged stone, leaving a bloody mess. Fortunately, it was his left hand, so it didn’t affect his ability to use the gun.

The scar-faced man was furious.
He raised his pistol. He had twelve bullets in total, and he was steady as a rock.
Bang!
The first shot missed.
“Take this.”
Anran grabbed shattered glass from the floor and hurled it at him. In a room this small, if the scar-faced man managed to get his footing, she wouldn’t survive ten seconds.
She might look soft and fragile right now, but Anran was not to be underestimated. Inside, she was cold and cool. What she lacked was only experience and adaptation to the starry sea.
Damn it.
Seeing the shards of glass flying at him, the scar-faced man hurriedly retreated. But he overlooked the fact that he was standing in a cramped space. His back slammed into the edge of the hole in the wall, and he lost his balance.
Anran’s eyes lit up. Grabbing a sharp stone, she stabbed it straight toward the scar-faced man’s right hand.
She had just added 3 points to Agility. With 7 points of Agility, the burst of speed she could produce over a short distance left the scar-faced man no time to react at all.
“Ah! My hand!”
As if it were about to be smashed apart, his hand screamed in pain. The scar-faced man let out a shriek, and the pistol dropped to the ground. The condition of his right hand was even worse than his left.
Anran reached out to grab the gun, but the scar-faced man lashed out with a kick in the same motion. Anran tumbled backward several times, then clutched her stomach and struggled to her feet.
I let my guard down.
The scar-faced man clutched his right hand and glared at Anran with a savage expression, roaring, “You little bitch, I’ll make you wish you were dead!”
But Anran’s gaze was fixed on the pistol lying on the floor, paying no attention at all to his vicious threat.
