Volume 3, Chapter 63 – Truly Terrifying!

The hospital where Eudora was staying was the same hospital where she had once worked.

Because of her conflict with Colin, she had ultimately resigned from the hospital and focused on running her newly opened clinic.

She had returned to a familiar place, only unexpectedly as a seriously wounded patient lying once more in a white hospital bed.

With Aila in tow, Anran arrived at the door of a hospital room under the guidance of a young nurse.

It was a single room on one of the upper floors of the inpatient building.

A luxury ward.

The director took quite good care of former employees.

“Doctor Eudora only regained consciousness not long ago and is still resting. Please wait outside for now. You can go in after Doctor Eudora wakes up,” the nurse said.

“All right.”

Anran did not want to disturb an injured patient either. There was a row of chairs outside the room, and she sat down first.

Aila sat down right after her.

Bang.

Wobble…

The sudden shaking startled Anran.

Only then did she notice that the supports on this chair were rather thin. If Aila had plopped down with a hop just now, it probably would have collapsed.

“…”

The nurse gave Anran and Aila a strange look, then left.

Aila looked innocent.

“It’s not your fault. The chair is just too fragile.”

Anran hurriedly comforted Aila.

They did not wait outside for very long. After a little over half an hour, another older nurse came over pushing a cart loaded with medicine. She was here to change the dressing for the now-awake Eudora.

The call bell rang.

That meant Eudora had pressed the call button by the bedside.

The nurse pushed the door open and walked in first, with Anran and Aila following behind.

Eudora was lying in the hospital bed, her eyes open, staring blankly at the ceiling.

Now that she was awake, it was time to change the dressing and then hook up the IV. Though she had long since lost all hope for life, at the very least, this life that had been pulled back from the brink could not be thrown away lightly.

And so the nurse walked over to Eudora’s bedside.

“Eudora.”

The same familiar way of addressing her.

They had once been partners, after all.

Eudora, now awake, had not expected to run into an old acquaintance again.

But today’s voice sounded too young.

And very familiar.

“Eu…”

Aila called out again.

Eudora suddenly turned her head, and she saw her.

Aila was standing beside Anran, timidly calling her name.

“Aila!”

Eudora’s pupils widened instantly, and she suddenly struggled to sit up.

But the pain coming from the back of her arm and her lower abdomen immediately made her frown.

“Don’t move around. Your body can’t handle that right now!” The nurse quickly held Eudora down.

“Does Eudora hurt a lot?” Aila asked.

Eudora smiled and shook her head. “It doesn’t hurt.”

“But the expression you had just now meant pain.”

Anran did not even know when Aila had learned to analyze facial expressions.

Eudora said, “It really doesn’t hurt.”

The nurse waved her hand. “Whatever you want to say can wait. Let me finish changing the dressing first.”

Eudora’s body was very weak, but she could still speak, just not for long.

After the nurse finished changing the dressing, she repeatedly reminded Anran and Aila on her way out not to talk too much with Eudora, that the patient needed rest, and so on.

She was really unbelievably naggy.

But she was a good person.

That was what Anran thought.

With a soft click, the door swung shut.

The conversation began.

Anran also received the game’s notification that the story had begun.

It was a truly strange experience.

It felt as though she had become a character in a movie and was personally acting out part of the plot.

“It’s wonderful that you’re both all right.”

That was Eudora’s opening line.

Her gaze had been fixed on Aila the whole time just now.

“Thank you for helping take care of Aila all this time,” Eudora said to Anran again.

“I wouldn’t exactly call it taking care of her. Aila has helped me a lot too.”

“Anran is very good to me,” Aila said.

A gentle smile appeared on Eudora’s face.

She spoke slowly, her voice soft and gentle. “The reason I asked you to come is that there are some things I want to say to you, Anran.”

“Huh? To me?”

Anran froze for a moment.

Even if this was a story mission, shouldn’t the protagonists be you and Aila?

“Mhm.” Eudora nodded, then suddenly let out a sigh. “In my current condition, there’s no way I can take care of Aila.”

“…”

Aila looked at Eudora curiously.

“Even after my body recovers, it still wouldn’t be appropriate for me to take care of Aila. Aila isn’t an ordinary girl. Staying with me would only be a waste of time for her.”

Although Anran very much wanted to cultivate Aila into a loyal companion of her own, if Eudora did not want Aila to leave, Anran would not force it.

“But I also can’t feel at ease leaving Aila alone. Maybe having her stay by your side would be the most suitable arrangement.” Eudora moved her fingers slightly.

In the long run, this was actually a good thing.

Because without outside force, Aila would not grow up. If the people around her saw an eleven- or twelve-year-old girl remain unchanged for ten years, something unexpected would definitely happen.

It was just that Anran had not expected Eudora to let go so decisively.

“Thank you.”

“Aila is far from as simple as she looks.”

Eudora was organizing her thoughts. Since she had decided to let go, even though she knew Anran and Aila had a better relationship, she still hoped Anran would take Aila more seriously. “I’m sure you also know that with the technology on No. 1886, it would be impossible to create Aila.”

“That’s true.” Anran nodded.

That was also the part that puzzled her.

That milky-white, irregular crystal that looked like a gemstone.

“Aila isn’t purely a product of technology. She’s a crystallization of life born from the union of mysticism and science.”

Anran listened quietly as Eudora explained slowly, “More than ten years ago, Colin picked up a white crystal and a chip that had not yet been completely destroyed from a crashed spacecraft that had fallen from beyond the sky. Those two things are Aila’s true core.”

“The white crystal is called Ancient Essence, and that chip was a restored blank AI.”

“Leaving that AI aside, Ancient Essence is a wondrous object that science cannot explain.”

“It can continuously refine any metal it comes into contact with, and in the process of transformation it can also release excess energy. Aila eating metal is the process of her self-evolution, and the energy released by Ancient Essence can keep her running in daily life.”

“…”

That overpowered?

Anran’s eyes widened.

Didn’t that mean that the more metal Aila ate, the stronger she would become?

Was mysticism really this ridiculous?

Come to think of it, she had not looked at Aila’s information in a long time.

With that thought, Anran immediately used a scouting skill.

Name: Aila

Race: X

Gender: Female

Level: 18

HP: 580 (+1000) / 580 (+1000)

Stamina: 1020 / – (depends on reserves)

Main Profession: None

Sub Profession: None

Six Stats: Strength 73, Agility 25, Endurance 58 (Armor 100/100), Intelligence 20, Spirit X, Charm 8

Favorability: 76

Aila was level 18!

Anran remembered that when Aila had first been created, she had only been level 16.

Without her even noticing, she had already gone up two levels.

Back then, Anran still had not been able to see Aila’s various attributes. Now that she could, and after comparing them with her own, Anran could not help drawing in a sharp breath.

Aila was truly terrifying!

She had thought Aila was already very strong, but it turned out she was even stronger than that.

Her HP and stamina were both four digits.

With 73 points in Strength, she was comparable to a same-level specialist player who had put every single attribute point into Strength. One punch from her could easily smash through a steel plate.

Her speed of 25 looked low, but in reality it was higher than most people’s.

Spirit X meant complete immunity to mental attacks. Although she herself could not use mental skills either, that did not matter.

Aila was truly terrifying, Anran marveled once again.
