Volume 3, Chapter 66 – Wait Till I Get There

“We killed four Morningstar Resistance members.”

Feilian’s words left Shichou on the other end stunned for quite a while.

“Impressive! I didn’t think you’d get results that fast. I can’t fall behind on my side either.”

Feilian’s squad was ranked ninth, and Shichou’s was ranked seventh. They were both in the bottom five, so in truth the gap between them was not especially large.

Impressive!

That was exactly what Feilian was thinking too.

But even now, he still had not fully processed what had happened.

A High-Energy Explosive that had appeared out of nowhere had wiped out the other side in an instant.

It felt too unreal.

Anran had already returned from the rooftop. The moment Anna saw her, she immediately walked over and slapped her on the shoulder.

“Damn. I underestimated you before. I didn’t think you were actually this strong. Interested in sparring with me later?”

“No interest.”

Anran refused without hesitation.

This violent woman was always looking to spar with people. Anran had no interest in something so meaningless.

“Are all newcomers monsters?” Chu Yuan could not help muttering under his breath.

Even the usually composed Li Zhuying could not help glancing at Anran. No wonder she had scored higher than Li Zhuying during the assessment. She really was an NPC powerhouse in hiding.

Since it seemed like her teammates had already said everything she would have said herself, Feilian could only scratch the back of his head. “Anyway, let’s keep it up.”

Naturally.

Anran said so inwardly.

When it came to kill-stealing, of course she had to keep it up.

Title: Morningstar Hunter: 21/25.

At the same time, she pocketed 2,300 EXP.

“Now isn’t the time to relax yet. Search the remaining areas too.” Feilian quickly calmed down again.

They had achieved some results for the time being, but that did not guarantee there were no other people hiding in the test center.

This was exactly the kind of moment when they could not afford to let their guard down.

If they missed any location, there was a good chance the enemy would turn things around on them.

That was exactly how their squad had botched things before.

Having learned that lesson once, Feilian was now cautious as hell.

So they searched the remaining rooms on the third floor again, but found nothing.

“Captain, are we heading straight to the conference center next?” Chu Yuan asked.

The test center was 724 meters away from the conference center, and there were no more large buildings between them.

Going straight there was not impossible.

“What’s the rush? If we head over now, we’ll just run into Yajin’s group. I’d say we should take a look around elsewhere first. This mission isn’t that difficult. At a time like this, we should be killing as many of those Morningstar brats as we can.”

Yajin was still very strong. After sizing things up, Anna felt it would be hard for their side to outcompete him anyway. If that was the case, they might as well look for opportunities around the perimeter. This was not the time to clash head-on with him.

“I have no objections.”

Seeing Feilian’s gaze sweep over to her, Anran answered.

“Same here.”

“Whatever you all decide.”

“All right, then let’s check the warehouse first.”

…

Meanwhile, on the other side, Yajin went straight into the factory complex after mocking Feilian.

The production building was right in front of him, but he did not even spare it a glance as he strode right past it.

“Where are you going?” Shichou shouted from behind.

“The conference center.”

Yajin tossed out the words stiffly and hurried off with several of his team members.

“…”

“Captain, this…”

“Let him do what he wants. We’ll do our own thing.” Shichou shook his head.

By then, Yajin, who had already reached the corridor, could no longer hear his voice.

Still, Yajin’s subordinates had some doubts. “Boss, shouldn’t we clear out the surrounding area first before going to the conference center?”

Yajin let out a cold laugh. “With the other three squads drawing attention nearby, those Morningstar idiots lying in ambush around the area won’t have the energy to bother with us at all. The bait in the conference center right now is just lambs waiting for the slaughter.”

“Boss, brilliant!” The underling beside him lit up immediately. Yajin’s logic actually made a lot of sense.

“Move.”

Yajin had a submachine gun in his hand. His pace was extremely fast, and his movements agile, completely at odds with his big, burly appearance.

Before long, Yajin and his men arrived at the entrance to the conference center.

He looked up at the sky. There was nothing there.

Second floor, main conference room.

Yajin’s mind flashed to the location the deputy minister had mentioned during the meeting.

He waved at the men behind him. “Time to test your ability.”

Yajin shot inside first in a single burst of motion.

Second floor.

The somewhat spacious building was so quiet that the only sound was Yajin and his men walking.

Even though they had deliberately lowered the sound of their footsteps, it was still very clear.

“The main conference room.”

Yajin stood at the entrance to a large conference room, one hand raising his submachine gun, the other settling on the doorknob.

He had come quickly, so he had not seen the thin smoke now rising outside the conference center.

And the Morningstar soldier releasing the smoke had not expected anyone to be reckless enough to rush straight over like this.

Separated by a single door, people on opposing sides now felt very different emotions.

Click, click.

The doorknob shook lightly.

“What…”

The door suddenly opened, revealing Yajin’s smug, arrogant grin.

“Hahaha, found you…”

At the same time, flames spat from the muzzle of his submachine gun, bullets spraying out like a linked chain.

Yajin’s signature was a wild, ferocious combat style, and that showed not only in his use of firearms, but also in close-quarters fighting with cold weapons.

The dense rain of bullets caught the Morningstar people inside completely off guard. The person still releasing smoke by the window was immediately riddled with holes.

Cries of alarm filled the room.

Compared to infiltration and assault missions, this kind of encirclement fight was simply too easy.

Yajin charged straight in without the slightest concern. He flashed aside, easily dodged a few bullets, then raised his gun and killed that man in an instant.

“Easy. Far too easy! Hahaha.”

Only now did the underlings following behind barely manage to catch up with Yajin’s pace.

“So this is the trap you laid? Pathetic.” Yajin walked up to a young man on the ground clutching his chest, grinned, and then stomped on the young man’s wound.

The heavily injured man blacked out and died on the spot.

“One point.”

Yajin lifted his foot and continued forward.

“Reinforcements! Requesting immediate reinforcements! Our plan has been exposed!”

At that moment, on the far side of the main conference room, a Morningstar soldier hiding behind cover shouted anxiously into a communicator.

“Don’t expose yourselves by the windows.” Yajin reminded the subordinates entering behind him. Though he was swelling with confidence now, he was still wary of Morningstar snipers positioned in the distance.

It’s over. Even now, the other side still hadn’t shown a flaw.

The surviving Morningstar soldiers were burning with anxiety. They had long been prepared to die, but they did not want to see this mission fail so easily. Otherwise, wouldn’t their sacrifice be meaningless?

“Hey, how’s it going on your side?”

There was no response from the communicator.

“Hey, hey…”

“Hey…”

The three remaining men tightened their grips on their guns, and on the bombs at their waists.

At a time like this, if they could take someone from the other side with them, it still would not be a loss.

“I’m here.”

But then, an utterly emotionless voice suddenly came through the communicator.

Dry as windblown sand.

Ah!

“…”

That voice… could it be that man?

“The deputy captain of the guard?” one of them said in shock.

“Oh? Reinforcements are coming?” Yajin laughed.

“You sound like you’re looking forward to my arrival.” That man spoke to Yajin directly through the communicator.

“Sounds like a big fish, Captain.”

“Found you!” Yajin lunged out in a single step, and with a bang, took down another Morningstar soldier.

With a clack, the communicator fell to the floor.

Yajin burst into laughter. “If you’ve got the guts, then come on over. I’ve killed plenty of Morningstar mongrels.”

“I like that confidence of yours. Right now, I’m standing behind you…” The voice from the communicator cut off abruptly.

What?

Yajin whipped around, but behind him there was no one except his own subordinates.

A bluff?

Just as that thought crossed his mind, a bright flash of silver suddenly streaked across his field of vision, and in the next instant, Yajin saw one of his underlings collapse to the floor.

A throwing knife was lodged upright, steady and sure.

“Someone’s there!”

Yajin dropped into a crouch at once.

He did not even need to warn them. The other underlings immediately ducked into cover with practiced precision.

Attacked from front and back, huh.

Yajin licked his lips excitedly.
