Volume 4, Chapter 9 – Skyfall Girl

Clang, clang, clang.

It was the sound of something scraping inside.

Anran held her breath, her finger resting on the trigger.

After waiting a moment,

a figure emerged.

Hm?

Anran’s eyes suddenly widened.

She forcibly stopped the finger that had been about to squeeze down.

She knew that person!

Wasn’t that one of the lackeys following that idiot whose name had somehow been written backward as Berg, the same one who had acted so arrogantly before?

“Why’d you stop moving?”

That person had spotted Anran too.

The clothes had changed,

but that irritating, unforgettable face had not.

“Boss, someone’s ahead.”

“Someone?” Berg was startled.

“It’s that Anran.”

“…”

Berg said nothing. He shoved the lackey in front of him aside, then squeezed his way up himself.

At last, he was face-to-face with Anran.

She had just heard people cursing Berg over the radio, so it turned out this bastard had actually sneaked in quietly.

The two sides were not on good terms to begin with.

Anran was fully prepared to assume the worst about what Berg might do.

Her body shrank back as she prepared to leave.

Fighting Berg here would be an extremely unwise move.

But she had clearly underestimated just how unhinged this man could be.

Berg pulled out his gun.

Then he fired a shot straight at where Anran was.

Bang!

The bullet punched through the not-particularly-thick bottom layer and shot directly into the corridor below.

“What was that?!”

“It’s a bullet, a bullet!”

“There’s someone above us!”

A flurry of panicked shouting immediately erupted in the corridor below.

Bang bang bang!

The scattered Morningstar soldiers instantly raised their guns and fired wildly at the section of ceiling with the bullet hole.

Anran dodged quickly. She had already started crawling back before Berg even drew his gun.

And precisely because she had not been planning to fight, she barely managed to avoid that first round of gunfire, though she still picked up a graze.

On the outer side of her thigh.

“Bastard, you asked for this. I wasn’t planning to stay with Nine Songs anyway.”

Still shaken, Anran took out two High-Energy Explosives and rolled them forward.

Then, locking onto an opening, she slammed into it in a sudden burst.

…

Roll, roll, roll…

“It’s a bomb!”

“Fuck, that bitch is vicious too!”

Berg immediately retreated.

Boom!

The two explosions overlapped, and those unusual bombs immediately gave everyone above and below a nasty surprise.

The violent blast directly collapsed the none-too-sturdy passageway.

The people below were left choking on dust.

The unluckiest one was killed on the spot by a shard of metal.

But that was not the end of it. Just as everyone was either enraged or breathing a sigh of relief,

the flammable, adhesive liquid inside the explosives went to work.

Walls, human bodies, anything splashed by it burst into flames at once, and the secondary damage from the instantly generated heat was far worse than the initial blast.

“Ahhhh!”

The screams were right beside him. Berg slapped at the flames on one of his subordinates, trying to put them out, but instead the liquid got on his own hand and set it ablaze too.

He immediately slapped his hand against the wall, smothered the fire, and retreated again and again.

That teammate was beyond saving.

“What the hell is this stuff?!”

“**, that ***!”

“Go ***, Zhang Guang!”

“Boss, this…”

“****!” Berg’s face was so dark it looked like water might drip from it.

He cursed furiously.

Even though he had been the one to make the first move this time, he was still furious.

He had never expected Anran to be even more ruthless.

Now one teammate was dead, and their position had been exposed too.

“Deal with the people below first,” Berg said, jumping straight down through the hole. With his strength, plunging into the chaotic mass of Morningstar troops was like a tiger entering a flock of sheep. He began slaughtering them.

“…”

Yueya’s gaze shifted. They could have minded their own business and lived in peace.

Forget it. Survival came first.

…

“You killed a Morningstar Resistance fighter and gained 300 Free EXP.” x6

“You killed a Nine Songs fighter and gained 450 Free EXP.”

With one sudden crash, the metal grate was smashed open.

Bag first, person second, Anran was flung straight into midair.

And then she heard those notifications.

Got one?

Good enough.

That counted as venting some anger.

Very soon, Anran’s attention shifted to the place she had burst into.

…

A small room.

Below was a ring of monitors.

Several people were gathered around them.

One of them was just saying, “It’s the corridor outside the lounge!”

“An explosion! Damn it, someone slipped in.”

Bang!

“Hm? What’s going on?”

One of the people sitting in a chair watching the screens suddenly turned his head to look behind him.

One, then two.

Two fairly large backpacks suddenly smashed into his head. He did not manage to see what came after them, but his comrades did.

A petite girl in a Morningstar uniform, still holding a gun in her hands, had descended from the sky just like that!

Bang!

Pfft—

A spray of blood shot across the face of the person beside him.

Anran realized that she had landed safely.

Because there was a “soft cushion” under her.

Though her back had still slammed against the desk, and it hurt like hell.

“-47”

“-76”

“-221”

Three damage numbers floated up.

“You killed a Morningstar Resistance technician and gained 500 Free EXP.” The game notification arrived right on cue.

“Bastard!”

“Enemy attack!”

This was obviously the surveillance room.

Anran had never expected that one random jump would bring her here.

She had expected even less that she would successfully crush an enemy to death the instant she came down, (;?_?).

As a result, the few people still alive in the surveillance room immediately tried to unload their guns on her.

Of course, there was also one balding man who had been so badly frightened by the skyfall girl that he dropped flat onto his butt.

He was the one who had gotten sprayed in the face with blood.

Too brutal.

Too inhumane.

A man had actually been crushed to death.

“Crushed to death, crushed to death! Ahhh!”

Rat-tat-tat…

“Protect the officer!”

“Die!”

The surveillance room fell into complete chaos for a moment.

But Anran, having seized the initiative, was still one step ahead. After smashing several screens, there were three more unwilling corpses on the floor.

1,300 EXP in hand.

Anran planted one foot on the chest of the balding man who was still shrieking, “Crushed to death!”

Only after she smacked him once with the gun barrel did he finally shut up.

He laboriously wiped the blood off his face.

Anran barked in dissatisfaction, “What are you screaming for? I only weigh 43 kg. What do you mean crushed to death? He was clearly killed by the bags!”

After saying that, she kicked the balding man again.

“Ow—”

Kick.

Another kick.

“Talk. How many people are left in this outpost right now?”

“I…”

Kick!

“Are you talking or not? I don’t have time to waste on your bullshit!”

Kick!

“I’ll talk.”

Kick!

He’d already said he’d talk, so why the hell was he still getting beaten?

“There are 783 people in the entire base right now, not counting the minister,” the balding man wailed.

783.

That was far too exact a number. If he was not making it up, then this man was no simple nobody.

“Where are the materials on Morningstar’s Canyon Continent base?”

Kick.

“Pfft—”

“-46”

“Are you talking or not?!”

Kick.

Rеаⅾ οո ΚаtRеαԁіոɡCαfe

“-53”

“I’ll talk, I’ll talk.”

Unable to withstand the cruel beating, the balding man spilled everything he knew in one go.

Looking at Anran’s petite body, he was actually terrified out of his mind now.

What if she came crashing down from the sky again?

The balding man shivered violently.

He had seen with his own eyes, without missing a single moment, exactly how that technician had been crushed to death.

It was too inhumane!

“All right. You’re useless now.”

Kick.

With the muzzle pressed against his forehead, Anran pulled the trigger.

Bang!

A headshot.

Direct kill judgment.

A huge red damage number floated above the balding man’s head.

“-837”

Anran froze.

Why was his HP pool so thick?

“You killed Zhong Liang of the Morningstar Resistance and gained 3000 Free EXP.”

Emmm…

Looks like…

“Faction mission [Duel I] complete. Contribution 100%. Gained 10000 EXP.”

She really had accidentally taken down a big fish!

Enduring the pungent smell of blood, Anran searched Zhong Liang’s corpse for a moment.

Then she found an ID card.

It said that Zhong Liang was the Logistics Department’s Assistant Minister, in other words the deputy minister who helped Heloise handle affairs.

No wonder he knew the numbers so clearly.

Zhong Liang was an elite mob too.

Because of the elite coefficient bonus, his HP had been that thick.

It was just that he was the “bookish type” among elite mobs and not good at fighting.

After putting away the ID card, Anran immediately walked over to the monitors.

Although several of the screens had been smashed, most of them were still intact.

Stumbling into the surveillance room by accident had really brought her huge returns.

Swing!

With one kick, Anran shoved aside the technician sitting on the stool with his eyes nearly bulging out.

Then she began to study the screens.
