Volume 4, Chapter 10 – Here, I’m Invincible

Out of that large bank of monitors, the first thing to catch Anran’s attention was one particular corridor.

Berg, Yueya, and the others who had jumped out of the passageway were in full rampage mode.

But their rampage clearly needed a rampage meter too.

Once one round of it ended, Morningstar’s people immediately reacted and launched wave after wave of attacks with their weapons.

At the end of the day, this was not some famous hack-and-slash game.

After steamrolling the enemies in one corridor, Berg and the others were also beaten into a panicked retreat.

The rain of bullets was too dense. Even though they ran fast, several of them were still wounded.

But it did not look life-threatening.

Mainly because Morningstar was currently under attack from front and rear, and with no one directing the overall situation, the whole place had descended into chaos.

If Heloise had been here, however many came would have died.

“…”

Comparing the detailed map on the desk with the various camera feeds, Anran watched the screens one by one.

The map printed on the desk really was a good thing.

Now it belonged to Anran too.

With Berg and the others drawing the fire, it would be much easier for her to stir things up.

Her top priority was the materials related to the Canyon Continent base.

She tidied up her backpack.

And smashed the surveillance room to pieces while she was at it.

Taking advantage of the empty corridor outside, Anran darted out at top speed.

Without surveillance devices getting in the way, she followed the route she had planned just now and quickly arrived outside the records room.

Along the way, she did run into a few Morningstar soldiers charging forward with guns in hand.

Anran very cooperatively picked up a gun herself and shouted a few battle cries, pretending she was charging with them.

Then, the moment she turned around, she stabbed those soldiers in the back from behind.

Blood splashed everywhere.

She easily dealt with four more targets.

Taking out Zhong Liang’s ID card, Anran swiped it at the door to the records room.

“Beep beep. Identity verification passed.”

The door to the records room opened, and Anran slipped inside.

The materials related to Canyon Continent were on the computer at the very back of the records room.

That was what Anran had learned while interrogating Zhong Liang.

She searched around for a while and, sure enough, found several computers.

Ten more minutes passed, and Anran’s eyes suddenly lit up.

Communication logs.

But the information seemed to be encrypted.

With her current computer skills, she could not crack it.

Still, Anran was not annoyed. She directly stuffed the entire notebook into the bag holding the tool kit.

Now there was only one last target left—

Roentgen, the other deputy minister of the Far East Branch!

This guy was in charge of the Equipment Department, and he was strong. Judging from the mission rewards alone, he was stronger than an injured Sandi.

“If I can beat him, I fight. If I can’t, I run.”

Setting down her backpack, Anran took out the mechanical armguard.

This was the first time she had used that armguard in actual combat.

Reassemble, then equip it on her right arm.

After using it so much, Anran’s left hand had become very dexterous too.

But her right hand was still stronger.

…

“Deputy Minister, that group has already been forced back into the lounge!”

In the corridor, a young man with tightly furrowed brows was striding forward.

A long blade hung at his waist, and he was holding a submachine gun in his hand as well.

A messenger at his side was reporting the battle situation.

“The enemies at the old riverbed have been temporarily suppressed, but the situation still isn’t looking good.”

“Clear out the rats that got in first.”

Roentgen shared a name with a certain famous physicist, and he himself was very much a heavy physical-damage dealer too.

“Blood!”

The moment he reached the door to the surveillance room, Roentgen’s expression changed abruptly.

He kicked the door open, and the sight that met his eyes was a complete scene of devastation.

There was not a single living person in the room, and not even one intact object.

“Zhong Liang.” After looking around, Roentgen found Zhong Liang’s lifeless body.

He walked in carefully and confirmed that he really was dead.

His brows drew together tightly. Though the two of them did not get along in ordinary times, seeing someone from his own side killed by an infiltrator still made him feel a burst of grief, followed immediately by rage.

“Move. Don’t worry about whether they still have accomplices here. As for those dogs we’ve got surrounded, not one of them is leaving alive today!”

Roentgen was so furious he looked like he was about to start smoking. Even the pitiful door to the surveillance room got another kick from him.

It swayed unsteadily.

The calm steadiness he had before was gone. A terrifying, man-eating aura began to spread from him.

Because of his sudden arrival, Berg and the others, who had barely been able to maneuver using the cramped space, now felt as if a thousand-pound weight had dropped onto them, threatening to crush them at any moment.

Completely unaware that her actions had just created even bigger trouble for Berg, Anran was still quietly prowling around, trying to find Roentgen so she could reward him with a few punches.

Of course, if she knew what sort of situation Berg was in now, Anran would be even happier.

Best of all would be if Morningstar killed him for her.

Anran held grudges.

She had a little ledger in her heart. If anyone dared give her trouble, then if she couldn’t beat them now, she’d lie low first. Once she got stronger, she would definitely settle the score.

Bang!

One bullet killed a Morningstar soldier who had gotten too close. Berg pulled the trigger several more times in succession, but apart from dry clicks, no more bullets came out.

Damn.

Both of the guns he had on him were empty.

As for grenades, they did not dare use them at all right now.

This shitty building had been built into the mountainside. If it collapsed, everyone would die. Only someone like Anran, who had no idea, would dare throw explosives around directly.

Beep beep beep—

At that very moment, however, the communication device on Roentgen’s body suddenly rang too.

He waved his hand, signaling the attackers to ease off for the moment.

Then he looked at the screen and found that it was Heloise calling.

Roentgen answered immediately.

“Minister…”

“How’s the situation right now?” Heloise asked.

“Not good.” Roentgen was concise. “We’re being tied down outside, and a few bugs have gotten into the base as well. Our people just boxed them in, but they’re still struggling.”

Heloise fell silent for a moment. “I’m less than twenty kilometers from the canyon now.”

Joy immediately appeared on Roentgen’s face.

After multiple operations, he had already learned very deeply just how strong Heloise was.

Strong enough to make him despair.

As long as Heloise arrived, every one of these bugs, inside and out, would go down with a single kick!

“Then, Minister, you—” Roentgen had only gotten halfway through the sentence when an intense chill suddenly rose in his heart, as if a sharp claw had seized it in one grip.

That powerful premonition of death was a biological instinct Roentgen had forged through life-and-death trials—the so-called passive talent!

He dropped flat forward at once.

Fast enough, and decisive enough.

The instant he hit the floor, a bullet passed right by him and blew apart the communication device that was still in the middle of the call.

“…”

Gunfire?

Driving with one hand, Heloise’s face turned cold as ice.

Meanwhile, Roentgen scrambled up in shock.

There was an enemy behind them too!

He treated the situation like a major threat.

“Ah. So close—”

Anran lowered her gun in frustration. The other side’s reaction had been absurdly fast, and with the mechanical armguard on, she was not quite as slick with firearms either.

Bang!

A Morningstar soldier who had tried to move toward Anran’s position was punched so hard that he flew backward.

A punch backed by 45 Strength.

It surpassed the limits of the human body by who knew how many times.

The man who flew back had his chest caved in on the spot.

Since the assassination had failed, Anran did not stay any longer. She had already studied and planned out her retreat route: two shots to force back two people, then one punch to send another blocker flying. Like a lithe, powerful cheetah on the grasslands, she dashed toward the entrance she had used to get in.

Short legs, but wind at her feet—she was so fast that nobody could even see her clearly.

“You bastard!”

Roentgen cursed loudly and immediately ordered, “The minister will be back in a few minutes. You hold these people here and don’t let them get away. I’m going to kill that woman from just now!”

He took several soldiers with him and, burning with rage, chased after Anran.

Brutal as a little tank, Anran did not encounter a single enemy on the way who could withstand even one exchange.

In fact, there were hardly any people on the route she had chosen.

Because she had deliberately cleared it on the way in.

Morningstar’s people never would have imagined that there was a “vicious” “girl” hidden among their own ranks.

All of them were sent to heaven by righteous backstabs.

The farther Roentgen chased, the angrier he became. He ran extremely fast too, not much slower than Anran. In that twisting, winding terrain, he actually managed to keep her figure within distant sight the whole time.

Only after she had run a fair distance did Anran notice Roentgen behind her.

Oh ho!

She had thought this mission would be impossible to finish, but who knew the target would actually deliver himself right to her door? In that case, no need to be polite.

Bang bang bang—

The few shots she fired back did not accomplish much, but Anran did not care. She was deliberately dragging Roentgen’s attention along so she could pull him out toward the edge of the outpost.

That way, she could attack if she wanted and retreat if she needed—an unbeatable position!

Without Heloise here, in a one-on-one fight, I really am invincible in this place!

Anran rushed into the passageway leading to the abandoned town.
