Volume 4, Chapter 13 – You Really Are a Clever Little Thing

After passing through the hazy mist, although she could still hear gunshots echoing through the canyon, that wildly inaccurate, leave-it-to-fate shooting was no longer able to hit Anran’s butt.

She wobbled downward for more than ten seconds before finally spotting a jutting rock ledge.

Any lower and she might land near the Morningstar stronghold, so Anran quickly controlled the jetpack and descended.

Tap.

Both feet touched the ground.

The jetpack’s thrust stopped instantly as well.

The pain in both thighs and along her waist made Anran’s legs give out, and with a smack, she pitched straight onto the ground.

Fortunately, she was still clutching a backpack to her chest, so her head did not hit the ground.

Rubbing her messy hair, Anran hugged the backpack and scooted backward, shrinking herself into a recessed section of the rock wall.

This way, no matter what, Heloise standing above would not be able to see her.

“Hiss… it hurts so much…”

Once things quieted down, the pain in her body became even more intense.

Her clothes, stained red, looked filthy too, which made her uncomfortable.

Fortunately, Anran still had one unclaimed Enhanced Recovery Set [Blue].

“Claim!”

Another large medical kit suddenly dropped onto the tool bag in front of her.

A red cross was painted in the middle of the sky-blue medical case.

Anran immediately opened the box.

Disinfectant, hemostatic agent, recovery potion, bandages, anti-inflammatory medicine. It was packed full of bottles and jars.

It really was a very scientific recovery set.

But after reading the descriptions of the medicines’ effects, Anran felt it was not scientific at all.

At the very least, in the world she had lived in before transmigrating, she had never heard of recovery medicine this absurdly overpowered.

To clean a wound, the first thing to do, of course, was take off her clothes.

The wounds were blocked by clothing and bloodstains. How was she supposed to treat them without undressing?

But even in an empty rift with no one around, Anran still felt a little embarrassed.

Luckily, the backpack she carried, together with the jetpack and medical kit stacked together, was over a meter tall and fairly wide, just enough to block the front of her body and provide a bit of psychological comfort.

After taking off her coat and bulletproof vest, Anran was left wearing only a sweat-soaked tank top clinging tightly to her body.

The wound at her waist was actually not large, but it was fairly deep. Roentgen’s blade had been astonishingly sharp.

Then Anran pulled her pants down to around the backs of her knees and began tending to the gunshot wounds on both thighs.

The furrows gouged out by the bullets were strangely symmetrical. Anran had to twist her body to see them clearly.

If the wounds had been just a little higher, they would have reached her panties.

Even so, blood had still gotten on them.

Without thinking too much about it, she first cleaned the wounds with disinfectant, then applied the hemostatic agent and recovery potion.

After wrapping several layers of bandages around her abdomen and thighs and finishing all the treatment,

only then did Anran unclench her tightly gritted teeth.

Treating the wounds had still hurt quite a bit. Her technique was rather clumsy, after all, and she had only managed not to make any strange noises by forcibly enduring it.

Frowning, Anran looked at the clothes she had taken off.

Not only were they covered in dust, many places were also stained with blood. They were clearly no longer suitable to wear.

Her pants were not much better, slashed in several places, though with a bit less blood on them.

But she could not exactly go wandering around in nothing but panties.

So Anran still pulled her pants back on. As for the top, that really was unwearable now. The tank top had only one tear in it, and with the bandages underneath, although her stomach was exposed, overall it emphasized the tautness and agility of a sporty girl rather than anything H.

“Hoo…”

Only after sorting out her appearance did Anran finally have time to review what she had gained from this mission.

She ignored the two targeted random treasure chests for now. Even if she took them out, she would not be able to carry them.

The main thing was still the “virtual” rewards.

The Morningstar Slayer title had risen to Lv.3, and the stat bonuses had become:

HP +300, Strength +7, Agility +5, Endurance +3.

Current Free EXP balance: 90900.

After deducting 60000,

Basic Mechanic rose to Level 13.

She spent the 5 added stat points as Intelligence +3, Spirit +1, Agility +1, still leaving 3 points unassigned. As for skill points, Anran left them untouched for the moment.

Even though she had only leveled up once, Anran’s overall stats had undergone a leap-like increase.

HP: 297/650

Stamina: 155/420

Six Stats: Strength 25, Agility 28, Endurance 33, Intelligence 45, Spirit 14, Charm 7

(Within your tiny body lies a power worth looking forward to; even your “feeble” spirit has begun to sprout in the depths of winter.)

“…”

Anran’s physical condition was not very good.

Her mental state was not very good either.

Tiny?

Feeble?

Reading that, Anran wanted to hit something.

This moronic game commentary system kept jabbing at her nerves again and again.

She was getting to the point where she wanted to pick a fight with the air itself.

After closing the status panel, Anran looked around. There was no one nearby, so she sat down again and looked up at the sky.

The sun was setting, dusk was falling.

A thin mist cloaked the canyon.

The evening wind was chilly. Blowing across her exposed lower abdomen, it made Anran shiver. Her body felt a little weak.

She rubbed her hands together and breathed warm air into them. In this cool canyon, only curling herself into a ball gave her any sense of warmth.

Luckily, it was not raining. Otherwise, she really would have been pitiful, weak, and helpless.

Actually, Anran could eat a lot too!

She had not eaten anything for half a day, mainly because the continuous fighting had consumed too much of her stamina.

Gradually, drowsiness crept over her.

Anran put the jetpack back on, then hugged the tool bag and medical kit tightly.

Just like that, she drifted into a light sleep.

She did not dare sleep too deeply. She dozed off in a rather awkward posture, one that would let her wake up immediately at the slightest disturbance.

If only she had some kind of dimensional storage space, she would not have to work this hard.

A glistening thread hung at the corner of the sleeping Anran’s mouth.

Hehehe…

A long while later.

“Rustle rustle rustle…”

“Rustle rustle…”

The faint scraping sounds kept irritating Anran’s ears.

She opened her eyes irritably. Although her mood was foul, her body had already tensed up, and her right hand unconsciously pressed down on her last handgun.

“Rustle rustle rustle…”

“Guh guh…”

The sound continued. It seemed to be coming from below.

Anran released the backpack and crept to the edge of the ledge.

Moonlight shone down in clear brilliance, but she still could not see very clearly.

After peering for a long while, she finally discovered that someone was lying on another protruding ledge below.

Anran pressed her ear to the ground.

She could vaguely hear that person spewing threats.

“Haha, I finally f***ing made it. Survived a catastrophe, you b****. Since I didn’t die this time, I’ll definitely get my revenge next ti—”

“Urgh—”

“If I don’t f***ing kill you, I’ll write my name backward!”

“F***, f***ing…!”

The wind distorted the man’s voice, so Anran did not recognize it at first.

She only knew he was cursing viciously.

But as soon as she heard that classic line, “I’ll write my name backward,” Anran immediately realized.

Well now, was that not the idiot Berg?

Anran narrowed her eyes, revealing a dangerous gleam.

Want to write your name backward?

You really are a clever little thing. Today, out of the kindness of my heart, I’ll grant that wish for you.

Her mechanical boots still had a little energy left, and the jetpack had plenty of energy as well.

Just as Berg, while coughing up blood, was fantasizing about how he would pose Heloise in eighteen different positions after catching her, he failed to notice the small figure that had appeared behind him.

Only the whooshing sound made Berg frown slightly.

His right arm shifted forward as he tried to crawl away.

But at that moment, the back of Berg’s head suddenly exploded with pain. A huge force pressed down on him, driving his face straight into the dirt.

“FMLh FMLh FMLh—”

With both nose and mouth blocked, Berg could only make muffled whimpering noises.

And they were very faint.

Struck without warning, boundless terror washed over Berg like a flood.

Revenge, Heloise, eighteen positions—every last one of his filthy fantasies shattered.

The tide of darkness instantly transformed into a crimson torrent.

The scent of death kept drawing closer.

No. No, this won’t do!

Berg struggled desperately to resist.

But he was too badly injured.

“Heh—”

A cold sneer curled at Anran’s lips.

Her boot was planted on the back of Berg’s head. With a flick of her right hand, a blade sprang out.

Anran bent down. The icy blade had already touched Berg’s back.

“FMLh FMLh FMLh—”

Like a ruthless queen, Anran said nothing as she drove the blade in.

Pfft—

The “FMLh” stopped abruptly.

“You have killed Berg of Nine Songs and gained 4500 Free EXP.”

Perfect.

Anran pulled out the blade and lifted her foot off Berg’s head.

All at once, the air of the whole world felt fresh again.
