Volume 2, Chapter 6 – Morningstar in Action
After observing for a while, Anran discovered that the player called “Leading the Escape” had settled down somewhere in the old district.
Judging by the look of things, she would not be leaving Twinmoon City anytime soon. Thinking about it, that made sense. Once someone reached the main city, who would still be thinking about going back to the newbie village?
The night was growing late, and she still had not eaten dinner, so Anran did not continue watching Zhou Jieyu.
She did not want to end up with the reputation of being a creepy stalker NPC.
Although she had not gained anything substantial, Anran was in quite a good mood.
For a tiny minority of players to come to Twinmoon City for special reasons was actually a very good situation for her. They would not pose a threat to her, and they would also give her test subjects.
She returned along the same route, and before she knew it, she had arrived near that restaurant again.
Anran was just about to turn into the alley beside it when two people walked out of the restaurant.
“We’ll have to trouble you to put more effort into the investigation.”
“Of course, of course. With our influence in the old district, we’ll be able to find out very soon who was taken in that day. You can rest assured,” Little Gold Tooth said with a chuckle as he followed behind.
The man in front had no expression on his face. He simply continued reminding him, “That person dared to oppose us. We absolutely won’t let her off. Whoever finds her first, in addition to the reward provided by the organization, I will personally provide some extra support.”
What kind of grudge was this?
Anran turned her head to take a look and was instantly shocked.
Wasn’t this one of the Morningstar Resistance people who had invaded the police station last time?
Only two people had escaped from that operation in the end. This big man was the one who, while fleeing, had declared that he would find her and avenge “Jian.”
Anran felt a little wronged. She had been attacked for no reason, and when she fought back, she had gotten beaten up. The person had not even been killed by her, yet she had been forced to take the blame. Her favorability with a storyline organization had instantly dropped to -100. Seriously, what the hell.
Of course, none of that mattered right now. Anran sensed an intense feeling of danger.
As expected of an important organization in the storyline of No. 1886, the Morningstar Resistance’s influence was far stronger than she had imagined. They had infiltrated Twinmoon City with ease.
With the abilities of these local tyrants in the old district, they would probably lock onto her as the target very soon. When that time came, she would have to face a nonstop barrage of attacks from the Morningstar Resistance.

Anran fell silent.
Her current strength was still very weak. Fighting one-on-one against local tyrants who relied on numbers to throw their weight around was not a problem, but if the well-trained Morningstar completely set their sights on her, she would soon end up dead in the street.
“I’ll come again at this time tomorrow. I hope I can receive good news from you then.” After the Morningstar big man finished speaking, he did not wait for Little Gold Tooth’s reply and disappeared into the darkness.
“Jian” was his brother who had gone through life and death with him. No matter how one looked at it, he had to avenge “Jian”!
Anran gritted her teeth and quietly followed.
If she wanted to avoid being targeted by Morningstar, or at least delay it, starting with the local tyrants on the old district’s side clearly would not work. They had too many people, spread across too wide an area, and she could not possibly clean them all up. She could only kill the big man acting as their contact.
That way, before the next contact arrived, she could at least buy herself some time to develop.
Although she looked soft and weak, Anran had always played games as an assassin. Her heart was incomparably firm. When it was time to act, she acted without hesitation!
Her pistol and short blade were strapped to her thigh. Anran always kept these two items on her person. This was the vigilance of a former assassin.
Fortunately, she had weapons with her. Otherwise, Anran really would not have dared to follow him.
Her Strength and Agility attributes were already higher than the average of newbie players, but compared to a muscle-bound brute like this big man, she was still far from enough.
Some people said the highest level of an assassin was to go full Musou mode and mow down everyone who saw you. That way, the assassination mission would be completed successfully.
But clearly, the current Anran had not reached that level yet. She could only hunch down, keep one hand on the grip of the pistol strapped to her thigh, and follow behind the big man, ready to draw and fire at any moment.
The night was not peaceful. From time to time, the cries of stray cats and stray dogs rang out, making the gloomy old district feel especially eerie.
When they reached the side of a pillar, they had already moved away from the crowded areas. Anran estimated that this was about right. With a pull of her right hand, the muzzle instantly aimed at the big man in front of her.
Before she had time to pull the trigger, the big man’s body suddenly flashed to the side, and he hid directly behind the pillar.
Crap, I’ve been found out.
Anran immediately realized things were bad. She quickly pulled back, and along with two gunshots, two bright sparks scraped up from the place where she had been standing just now.

“Pretty quick reflexes for a little rat,” the big man shouted.
Anran said nothing. She realized that she had overlooked something. [Night of the Stars] was completely different from the games she had played before. The NPCs here had their own thoughts. Tailing an NPC like this, then suddenly drawing a gun and shooting him to the ground, placed very high demands on the person executing it.
As a [Pastry Maker] + [Mechanic], Anran had no experience. She did not understand all those fancy techniques. She only knew one move: go in head-on!
Rat-tat-tat!
The 1886 Hermit Pistol with burst-fire capability still had 8 bullets left. Anran only had 8 chances. Otherwise, the battle after this would enter hard mode.
“Bang!”
Sparks suddenly flashed beside her foot. Anran quickly pulled her foot inward, nearly getting shot in the knee.
“Are you from the Security Department, or from Crescent Moon?” the big man asked. “Forget it. It doesn’t matter which side you’re from. You’re already dead anyway.”
“Bang, bang.”
Several bullets poured over. Anran calmly took a deep breath, then opened her throat and shouted, “Brothers, I’ve successfully pinned down the Morningstar member!”
The big man was instantly startled.
Once he was surrounded, it would be difficult for him to escape. The reason he had managed to flee last time was because he had caught the Security Department off guard. That did not mean the Security Department’s people were useless.
Anran’s shout threw the big man’s mind into chaos.
Had he been exposed? Could that Little Gold Tooth have sold him out?
The big man’s thoughts spun rapidly, but he could not come up with an answer. He could only retreat first.
This was exactly the chance Anran had been waiting for.
What did it feel like to hold a pistol with an assisted red-dot sight once there was no more suppressive fire?
It was like being the protagonist in a shooting game, charging head-on and spraying bullets. Anran was just missing the great art of recovering health by breathing.

“Bang.”
“Hiss.”
“-34”
Shot in the butt, the big man sucked in a breath of cold air. He no longer dared to keep running and hurriedly found cover to hide behind.
The slightly threaded bullet was embedded very deep. The big man wiped a hand over his butt, and his palm was instantly dyed bright red.
Pain and anxiety made cold sweat pour from his forehead. It seemed he would not be able to run away this time. Thinking of this, the big man took a communication device from his pocket, quickly entered a few lines of text, and after sending the message, he smashed it hard against the ground. The communication device was immediately crushed to pieces.
Even if he died, he had to take one down with him.
The big man gripped his pistol tightly, pricking up his ears to catch the sound gradually approaching.
He suddenly jumped out and fired three shots in a row.
But after landing, the big man was so stunned that he even forgot the pain in his butt.
No one?
He had missed!
“Bang!”
A spray of blood blossomed from his chest, and all the strength in his body was drained away in an instant. The big man did not even manage to see clearly what Anran looked like as she walked out of the shadows before his eyes closed and he GG’d.
“-130” “-121” “-125”
Three damage values floated over the big man’s head.
A fatal bullet instantly emptied the rest of his HP.
“You have killed a fighter of the Morningstar Resistance and gained 300 free EXP!”

A notification rang beside Anran’s ear. Killing a higher-level monster had actually provided a full 300 EXP!
She was so excited she wanted to shoot two more Resistance members for fun.
“Although he looked pretty strong, if his brain doesn’t work, then in a battle with firearms like this, he’s still just cannon fodder.”
Anran threw away the stone she had been holding and quickly walked to the big man’s side.
Next came the loot collection segment.
A gun, and a little booklet sticking out of the big man’s pocket.
“Scout Manual, Second Edition?”
She would put it away first.
After pocketing the useful items, Anran quickly left the scene. Along the way, she tossed the bloodstained gloves into a distant sewer. As for how things would develop next, she could only leave it to fate.
Anran did not know that the big man had sent a message before he died.
Of course, if she had known, she might have been even happier.
Because the message read:
“Twinmoon City, old district, imperial dogs, surrounded”
Eleven characters.
The Morningstar Resistance members who received the message were instantly enraged.
“Kill those lackeys of the Empire!”
The progress of a certain raid seemed to have been sped up slightly.
