Volume 2, Chapter 12 – Sir, Want a Disc?
The conference room behind the metal doors.
In the center of the room stood an ordinary oval conference table.
The decor around it was also simple and efficient, and the things posted on the walls were mostly maps.
One of them was a world map of No. 1886, with a large red X marked somewhere in the eastern part of Canyon Continent in the Northern Hemisphere.
“Morningstar Resistance, Far East Branch of Canyon Continent.”
The woman in the suit walked in and stood behind the wooden platform at the front of the conference room. A computer sat there, and behind her was a projector.
A standard conference room.
“The meeting begins.”
The woman in the suit spoke indifferently, then began operating the computer in front of her on her own.
The people gathered around the table straightened up. Excitement was visible in each of their expressions, and some of them were whispering to each other.
“We’re finally launching the attack.”
“I’ve been dying to charge into city hall and stab those bastards to death.”
“Will anything unusual happen if we start the operation early?”
“They don’t know we have their defense deployment map. This attack is bound to succeed!”
…
The woman in the suit turned on the projector, then swept her gaze across the room and said, “Quiet.”
The conference room quickly fell silent.

“Before the meeting begins, I have something to announce.” The woman in the suit’s expression did not change. “Selian, head of Transport Division One under the Logistics Department, colluded with the enemy. After his identity was exposed, he attempted to threaten his subordinates and was shot dead on the spot by members of the special ops team who arrived at the scene.”
“What?”
That single sentence instantly set off an uproar among the people seated at the conference table.
Every one of them turned pale.
A traitor, and even a section chief from the Logistics Department?
No matter the era, in a prolonged war, logistics decided everything.
If this traitor suddenly turned on them at the critical moment of the attack and caused the supply of weapons and ammunition to fail, it could very likely deal a devastating blow to the Far East Branch.
“It was my oversight. I am willing to accept punishment.” The head of logistics immediately stood up and spoke with a grave expression.
“We’ll discuss that later.” The suited woman tapped the computer without looking at the head of logistics. “Next, to the main topic: the operation plan for the surprise assault on Twinmoon City.”
Now the real subject had arrived.
Everyone sat up even straighter.
The ignored head of logistics was stuck awkwardly, neither able to remain standing nor sit down. After lingering there in embarrassment for a while, he finally sat down.
This branch chief, Heloise, had been sent over from the Canyon Continent division. She might be a young woman, but her methods were not lacking in any respect, and she also had extremely powerful backing. Even these old hands were kept in a constant state of fear under her pressure.
…
“The date is set for June 15. All departments, go make your preparations. This operation must end in victory.”
After the meeting ended, Heloise was the last to leave the conference room. The assignments had already been distributed, but in order for the operation a few days from now to proceed smoothly, there were still many matters she needed to coordinate.
“Branch Chief, Abbott’s communicator has been found.” A young man in a black uniform walked up.

Heloise raised an eyebrow. “Where?”
“In an alley in the old city district.”
The young man pulled out a map with the location marked on it.
Heloise took the map, glanced at it, then handed it back. “Understood.”
After saying that, she continued forward.
The young man immediately grew anxious. “Branch Chief, are we just going to leave it at that? Abbott’s appearance was never exposed. It must have been those local contacts he met with who leaked his whereabouts this time!”
Heloise suddenly stopped.
The young man’s face lit up with joy.
But Heloise’s next words sent a chill through him at once. “Do you want our attack plan to die halfway through?”
Heloise snapped coldly.
“No, I…” the young man immediately began to explain.
Heloise shot him a hard glance, cold light flashing in her eyes. “There are only five days left. I don’t have time to concern myself with something this minor.”
The more critical the moment, the less room there was for even the slightest mistake.
Heloise turned and left.
The young man clenched his fists.
What he did not know was that, in a place where no one could see, Heloise slammed a fist into the wall, leaving a dent one centimeter deep.

After washing up, Anran looked at her above-average 6 points of Charm.
Today was another energetic day.
Hopefully she would see that player she had met yesterday.
Hopefully she would get the next stage of [Colin’s Mechanical Engineering].
If both happened at the same time, that would be double the happiness.
But unfortunately, although she gained some more experience from repairing machinery, Anran did not get either of the things she was waiting for. She could only use her free time for analysis, and successfully mastered the blueprints for the [Warhorse Pistol], as well as the blueprints for ammunition compatible with the two pistols.
What an energetic day this is, Anran thought as she lay slumped over the table.
In fact, by the time Anran arrived at the shop, Colin had already locked himself in the workshop and begun working. In the middle of it, he left once, then came back into the workshop two hours later carrying a large box.
Although she was very curious, Anran still did not sneak a look without permission.
For the time being, she did not want to lose this foothold.
As for Zhou Jieyu, her situation was even worse.
At the same point in time, somewhere in the old city district, after wandering around for an entire afternoon yesterday and completing several small quests, Zhou Jieyu had finally found a repeatable quest that could earn money.
She was now crouching by the roadside with a headscarf, sunglasses, and a mask on, with a satchel hanging at her waist.
Her eyes were fixed on the intersection.
This was a task too embarrassing to speak of.
A sharply dressed man walked over. Zhou Jieyu did not move. The boss had said this was not the target.
A middle-aged auntie walked over. Zhou Jieyu still did not move. The boss had said this was not the target either.

A child walked over. Zhou Jieyu’s gaze had already drifted up to the sky. She couldn’t corrupt children.
Then a pie-faced man walked over, with a lecherous face and a hunched body. This was the one.
For the sake of making money, grinding favorability, and changing class, she was going all in.
Zhou Jieyu sprang to her feet, touched the satchel at her side, cleared her throat, and strode quickly up to the pie-faced man. In as calm a tone as possible, she said, “Sir, would you like a disc?”
“Hm?” The pie-faced man immediately stopped and looked at Zhou Jieyu in puzzlement.
Zhou Jieyu thought he was interested, and inwardly praised her own good eye. She immediately moved on to a second round of sales talk. “I’ve got all kinds of categories here—Human ones, Spirit ones, Wildcall ones…”
“Do you have Machina ones too?” the pie-faced man suddenly asked.
“…”
This guy’s tastes are really strange. He even wanted to watch discs of robots “fighting” robots.
“I’ll have to ask the boss about that,” Zhou Jieyu said.
It was her first day on the job. There were still many things she didn’t understand. The upstream boss had taught her all these lines; she herself had absolutely never watched a single disc.
“So there’s a boss behind this too.” The pie-faced man spoke in a meaningful tone. “Take me to meet your boss.”
“Sure.”
Zhou Jieyu nodded.
Looks like the first deal is about to be done. Not only would she get a cut, she’d also get experience. This quest wasn’t hard at all.
So she led the pie-faced man off to meet the boss.
