Volume 1, Chapter 2 – The BOSS Who Lives in the Trailer
Volume 1, Chapter 2 – The BOSS Who Lives in the Trailer
What does it feel like to start an online game with a max-level account?
Anran had yet to fully experience it for herself, but in the end, it all came down to one word: awesome!
“The only reason I’m level 150 is because the level cap in Night of the Stars open beta version 1.01 is 150!”
It gave her the oddly satisfying feeling of a genius looking down on top students.
The panel was packed so densely with information that Anran’s eyes started to blur. She had no patience to keep reading, and in the end, she arrived at only one conclusion.
“I’m freaking strong!”
Just look at those powerful classes listed row after row.
Just look at that overwhelming number of skills.
Just look at that full set of dazzling orange gear.
Just look at those jaw-dropping attribute points.
There was no need for more words. Strong was the only word for it!
Too bad she was a girl!
Damn it.
The salted fish that had turned over hurried toward the door. Anyway, she needed to pass down the order first. They had to find a place to hide and observe the situation as soon as possible.
No matter how strong she was, she still would not be able to withstand player hordes swarming in like locusts.
Anran did not want to be beaten flat.
“Chris, close the door for me.”
After pushing the door open, Anran strode out in a rush, not forgetting to call out to Chris, the ship’s artificial idiot, an artificial idiot that only knew how to follow orders. Her avatar looked like a palm-sized little girl.
Anran was gradually settling into this identity.
Yulianna, the captain of the guard unit whom she had sent away earlier, was standing at the bend in the corridor. Dressed in white guardwear, she stood ramrod straight, with a spectacular view over those towering peaks.
But Anran remained unmoved. She was an upright person!
“Princess!” Yulianna called respectfully.
Anran still was not used to this sudden shift in identity, so she kept her face taut, held her head high, and walked straight past Yulianna.

First she would go to the main control room to check the star map. Once she found a hiding place, she would head to the shuttle bay and prepare to run. The plan was simple and crude!
As for the flagship, whoever wanted it could have it. Anran did not care in the slightest.
“Ten, nine, eight…”
Huh?
The countdown alarm in her ears suddenly turned stirring and impassioned, as lively and youthful as a school radio calisthenics broadcast. It even carried a trace of delight.
What the hell?
Anran turned around and asked, “Yulianna, can you hear the countdown?”
“Reporting to the Princess, no!” Yulianna answered loudly.
Her dedicated attitude toward work made Anran sigh inwardly. A girl this cute, with the words “uniform temptation” written all over her, was actually also a notorious pirate.
The designers of this game really did understand the players!
“Three, two, one. Countdown complete. Trailer sequence officially begins!”
The soft female voice finally stopped, but instead of relaxing, Anran grew even more confused from hearing it.
Mr. Narrator?
What did it mean, the trailer sequence officially begins?
The plot of the game trailer…
While Anran was still suspicious, a shrill warning siren suddenly rang out through the corridor. The flashing red lights made her heart jump. Don’t tell me the ship was about to go down.
At that moment, the ever-dutiful Captain Yulianna suddenly received a call transferred from the main control room.
A scene from the control room popped up in midair. A girl who looked like one of the pilots said anxiously, “Captain Yulianna, the detectors have found three small aircraft ahead of us approaching at extremely high speed. Contact is expected in one minute. They ignored the inquiry signal we sent out. The first-level armed defense system has already been activated. Please report the situation to Her Highness at once!”
“Princess?”
Yulianna turned to look at Anran, who was just about to quietly slip away.
Fight?
A blazing fire burned in Yulianna’s eyes, and she looked eager to give it a try.

“Your Highness!”
The pilot on the virtual screen also spotted Anran and immediately greeted her respectfully.
For fuck’s sake.
Anran cursed inwardly. She had not even done anything substantial yet, and the subjugators were already at her door. Sure enough, being a BOSS was not such an easy job.
There was no way she could run now. Since that was the case, she might as well smash the heads of these clueless so-called subjugators first!
Big Sis Anran had one hell of a temper. Not just any trash fish or rotten shrimp could come knocking and provoke her!
“Bang!”
“Boom!”
“Whoosh!”
The ship suddenly shuddered violently.
The pilot girl’s expression changed drastically. “The ship’s left wing has been hit by a concentrated particle beam attack. The furnace wall of power source number three has been damaged.”
“Whoosh whoosh whoosh!”
The corridor walls instantly turned transparent like cascading water. To her surprise, Anran found herself standing in the void, her feet planted on the boundless starry sky, surrounded by red, yellow, blue, green, and white celestial bodies.
Along with several dozen particle beams shooting in from the front.
Explosions. Explosions filled the scene with a breathtaking sense of artistry.
The void kept trembling. Even though the first-level armed defense system had been activated, it still could not intercept the particle beam attacks. The ship, however, had begun to counterattack as well.
The two sides traded fire in the endless reaches of space.
You fire once, I fire twice.
You fire twice, I fire three times.
You fire three times, and I ram my damn ship right into you.
What the hell!
The three aircraft charging up close showed no intention of slowing down at all. Braving the dense web of fire, they actually slammed straight into the ship just like that.

Boom, boom!
The ship convulsed again.
Faced with that kind of suicidal collision, no matter how sturdy Anran’s ship was, it simply could not withstand it.
A huge gash immediately split open in the upper hull where they struck. Anran then saw three dazzlingly badass figures with absurdly overblown special effects leap right out from the center of the light and smoke.
They swaggered through the haze, swaggered into the hole, swaggered to the ground, and then swaggered their way into knocking every pirate gathered nearby flat.
“…”
If you’re all this overpowered, then who exactly is the main character here?
“Combat area restriction in effect. Pirate Princess strength reduced by 50 percent. The ship is about to break apart. The climax of the trailer is about to begin,” Mr. Narrator piped up at just the right moment.
Can someone please tell me what the hell is going on?
Anran felt awful all over.
Was this supposed to be a game or a movie?
“Princess, I’ll go arrange a counterattack at once!” Yulianna left with a grave expression.
“Wait…”
But Anran was already too late. The route to the shuttle bay had been blocked off. Fine then. Unless she beat those show-offs outside to death, it looked like she would not be able to run even if she wanted to.
Anran took a deep breath. She was that strong. It would be fine.
“Bang!”
Right then, among the three intruders, one swordsman slashed open the wall beside him with a single stroke.
A woman traveling with him immediately took out several glowing spheres from her backpack and tossed them in all directions. The rumbling explosions made Anran want to cover her ears.
A white light engulfed the whole world. When she opened her eyes again, Anran found a shattered passageway had appeared in front of her.
And those three show-offs were standing on the other side of it.
“The meeting of justice and evil. This is the ultimate war, fought for honor!” Mr. Narrator jumped in again.
Damn your uncle.

Was this narrator poisoned or something?
“Anran, today you will fall here!”
The swordsman put on a cold expression, and the companions beside him had unconsciously already started striking poses.
No, Director, why does this script feel so awkward?
“Then come and try!”
“Anran” answered with a sneer.
Umm…
Wait.
Anran suddenly realized she had lost control. I didn’t do that!
I didn’t, it wasn’t me, don’t make things up.
“Die!”
Cold blue light instantly filled the entire passage. The powerful attack that came without warning made Anran’s eyes widen. That destructive force… if it hit her, even she would be severely wounded.
At a time like this, she obviously had to dodge.
Crack!
But the moment that thought arose, Anran suddenly discovered that the world had frozen. A line of huge, flashy text appeared before her eyes.
“Final Trailer! On June 6, Night of the Stars begins full open beta. I’ll be waiting for you in the sea of stars!”
Umm?
Mr. Narrator said, “After a hard-fought battle, the subjugation squad successfully wiped out the Red Spider Lily Space Pirate Crew, and Princess Anran of the pirate crew also failed to escape death. However, has the land where the stars slumber truly regained its peace just like that?”
Wait, how did I die?
And how was that battle hard-fought at all?
How did I end up as a BOSS who lives in the trailer?”
