Volume 2, Chapter 15 – Hunk of What? Say That Again

Colin ignored the strange look in Anran’s eyes. He walked over to the table and grabbed several glass tubes in one go.

Those were the things Colin had made at the very beginning, yet they had never been used during the assembly process.

With their black ends and silver filament running through the middle, the glass tubes looked extremely high-tech.

Colin walked over to the short robot, pulled out one glass tube with his right hand, and under Anran’s watchful gaze, fitted it into a groove in the robot’s left arm.

“!”

Anran’s eyes widened. So that was what those grooves were for.

When she looked again, she noticed the differences. The grooves on the robot’s body were divided into several different types.

One type, although distributed in different directions, always had threaded locking slots at two corresponding points inside each groove. Those were clearly the grooves used to secure the glass tubes.

Anran swept her gaze across them quickly. These grooves were all located on the arms, legs, and waist. They were the critical points for exerting force and making movements. Could it be that these small glass tubes, which looked simple apart from being cool, were actually important transmission devices?

Colin was becoming more and more mysterious in Anran’s eyes.

This NPC, who seemed to exist only so players could repair equipment, definitely had an unspeakable story hidden on him.

There were ten glass tubes in total, and under Colin’s handiwork, they were quickly fitted into the robot.

Clap, clap, clap—Colin excitedly clapped his hands. “At last, one phase is finished.”

Don’t tell me he really built nothing but a metal hunk like this?

“Is it finished already?” Anran asked.

Colin shook his head. “Not yet. This is only a frame. It’ll still take some time before it’s fully completed.”

Looks like the key lies in those last nine blueprints.

At that moment, Anran also received the prompt that the quest had been completed. With 2000 experience added in one shot, she was already halfway to reaching Mechanic Lv5.

“So we’re just leaving it here like this?”

“That’s right,” Colin replied. He suddenly walked to the right side of the table and reached a hand into a bag.

Rustle, rustle—

Then Anran saw him pull a black cord out of the bag.

This is—Anran looked closely and noticed the plug at the end of the cord.

Colin walked behind the robot and plugged it into the back of its neck.

“…”

“Charging it first. It’ll probably need about twenty hours,” Colin explained.

So it really is electric… Anran was speechless.

“We’ll stop here for today,” Colin said.

“Oh.” Anran nodded. What exactly were those later blueprints for? Were they meant to keep filling in the grooves and hollow sections on the robot’s body?

Thinking about that all the way home, Anran returned to her house.

…

The next day.

Not long after Anran arrived at the shop, Colin went out again. As usual, he was gone for over an hour, but this time, when he came back, there was a middle-aged woman in a white coat following behind him.

After greeting Anran, the two of them disappeared into the workshop. Watching the shop from outside, Anran desperately wanted to sneak a peek, but the door had already been locked, and there was no other passage between the repair shop and the workshop.

Half an hour passed in boredom like that before the door behind her was finally pushed open.

The moment Anran turned around, she saw excitement overflowing across Colin’s face. His mouth was stretched so wide in a grin that it practically couldn’t close, as if something enormously good had happened to him.

“Did your middle-aged blind date work out? Are you about to get married?” Anran asked in confusion.

Colin’s face instantly darkened. “Don’t talk nonsense. I’ll get beaten to death.”

Anran nodded. “Ohhh, so it’s just unrequited love.”

That made Colin’s face darken even further. He paused, then said, “Forget it. I’m not going to stoop to a child’s level.”

“…” Anran parted her lips slightly.

Damn it!

Don’t be fooled by the fact that I look like a sixteen-year-old girl. I’m very mature on the inside.

Sure, I’ve spent years holed up at home playing games and practicing all kinds of skills by myself, but I have a wide social circle, I’ve read ten thousand books, strategy guides come to me like divine inspiration, and my theoretical knowledge is extraordinarily rich. I know everything!

Anran decided not to stoop to Colin’s level. He had to be acting guilty because she had seen right through him.

Gurgle, gurgle—

Anran picked up her cup and drank some water.

Leisurely time was limited in the end. Even with the 10% efficiency boost from her talent passive, she still wasn’t that much faster than ordinary people at repairing mechanical devices, because the devices themselves were very simple. Several electric fans, electric stoves, and ovens had already piled up behind her.

Anran took another sip of water and stood up at the same time. The moment she turned around—

Pfft!

She immediately sprayed out some of the water she hadn’t swallowed yet.

“I…”

“I…”

“What the…”

Anran froze on the spot in total stupefaction, staring fixedly at Colin, who was sitting in the corner of the repair shop.

Snip—

Swish, swish—

With swift, practiced movements, Colin used scissors to cut a piece of pink fabric into several pieces. Right afterward, he took out several more pieces of cloth and a sewing kit from a locked cabinet.

Then Colin sat down on a chair and began sewing those pieces of fabric together with great seriousness.

It looked like he was making a dress with lace trim.

And it looked really pretty.

Hiss—

Anran sucked in a sharp breath.

As expected of an old Mechanic who also had the [Sewing Artisan] profession. Not only could he “build people,” he could also make clothes for the people he built.

Taking a mop to wipe up the water on the floor and a rag to wipe the tabletop dry, Anran silently walked over to an old electric fan, took out a screwdriver, and began removing the screws with great seriousness.

She removed the back cover, discovered that a wire had snapped, soldered it with an electric iron, and plugged it in.

Wuuu—

The fan blades began spinning steadily. A cool breeze blew straight at Anran’s face, crossed over her shoulder, and lightly lifted the hem of Colin’s skirt.

“…” Colin stopped the moving needle in his hand and lifted his head.

The back of a young girl was right there, just two meters in front of him. She sat cross-legged on a small cushion, and the loose strands of her hair stirred gently in the cool wind. She was full of youthful vitality.

“How’s business been at the repair shop lately?” Colin suddenly asked.

“Uh…” Anran turned around, saw that Colin was looking at her, and only then realized he was talking to her.

“Pretty good, I guess,” Anran said. She thought about it, but in the end she still couldn’t help asking, “Are you making clothes for that metal hunk?”

“…” Colin’s face instantly darkened. Feigning anger, he said, “I’ll give you one chance. Hunk of what?”

“Metal…” Anran immediately corrected herself. “Are you making clothes for your daughter?”

Colin nodded in satisfaction. “That’s right. As you know, I’m also a tailor famous far and wide.”

Anran broke out in a cold sweat.

She quickly turned back around and continued tinkering with the electric fan in front of her.

Treating that metal hunk as his daughter… Boss is seriously twisted!
