Volume 2, Chapter 28 – I Think You May Have Gotten Something Wrong
The black unknown brought people endless fear.
Because the unknown was what was most terrifying.
…
Even after taking out two Morningstar Resistance soldiers in a row, Anran did not get cocky.
Though she did feel that she was pretty strong right now.
Holding a stick in her right hand and lifting up a piece of white cloth with it, Anran suddenly stuck the white cloth out.
Bang bang bang!
Three bullets came one after another, passing through the cloth and leaving three bullet marks in the wall behind it.
Anran tossed the stick aside. It looked like the people inside were panicking badly now.
The more panicked the enemy was, the steadier she felt.
Actually, Anran was rather puzzled. The Morningstar Resistance had not sent that many people.
Even without any class at all, level 16 Aila could still smash a “Morningstar mob” with one punch purely through raw stats.
So why did things still look like a hostage situation now?
But that could wait. First, she needed to clear out the people inside.
“I’ve already taken care of the ones in the back. You can start moving on your side now.”
Anran pretended to be talking to her “teammates,” speaking neither too loudly nor too softly, just enough for the people inside the workshop to hear.
The trick worked exactly as expected.
This really could not be blamed on Stowe. After all, he was alone now. Even though he had a “hostage” in hand, he was still panicking.
He was a man destined to become captain. How could he die so easily in a dump like this?

A great future was still waiting for him!
Stowe gripped the handle of his gun with his right hand. He was using so much force that it had actually started to tremble.
Colin lowered his brows slightly. Aila lifted her hand and looked at the lines on her palm.
Stowe began to slow his breathing. He took Aila with him and backed two steps into the corner of the room.
Standing there, he could keep both doorways within his field of vision.
Clang—
The sudden sound made Stowe jump like a startled cat. He quickly aimed his gun toward the source of the noise, only to discover a small cylinder rolling across the smooth floor, while Colin was sitting nearby.
“You—”
The more panicked a person became, the easier it was for them to turn irritable.
Stowe immediately wanted to give Colin another shot. He already had one hostage in hand, so this crippled man was of no use anymore.
Stowe’s index finger rested on the trigger. Just as he began to apply pressure, a shadow suddenly flashed across his vision.
Cursing inwardly, Stowe hurriedly swung his gun toward the shadow while shifting his body at the same time, but he was still a step too slow.
Bang!
“-57!”
Shot in the chest, Stowe let out a muffled grunt. His left arm suddenly tightened around Aila’s neck, while his right hand aimed the gun at her head as he shouted, “Stop! If you dare make another move, I’ll blow her head off immediately!”
The one who had suddenly appeared in the doorway and opened fire was Anran.
When she heard Stowe’s words, Anran did pause for a moment, but the sights of her pistol remained trained on Stowe’s forehead.
Taking advantage of that moment, she roughly sized up the situation in the room.
There was only one enemy left. Then things were steady.

Having taken a bullet to the chest, Stowe’s breathing immediately became a little ragged, and his clothes were quickly stained red with blood. Luckily, he had shifted a little just now, or that shot would have killed him outright.
His finger rested on the trigger, ready to pull at any moment.
Seeing that figure “freeze,” Stowe let out a breath of relief.
The figure was clearly female, wearing a baseball cap, with a backpack strapped to her chest that protected her body well.
When he finally saw Anran’s face clearly, an expression of shock spread across Stowe’s face on its own.
Too young!
Could she be an agent trained from childhood by the Empire’s lapdog government?
That made sense.
As a member of the guard squad, Stowe knew that the Empire’s lapdog government had cultivated a force independent of the Security Department called “Nine Songs.”
Because No. 1886 was a planet conquered by the Elimeria Empire’s Ninth expeditionary army, that force had been given the name “Nine Songs.”
The leaders of Nine Songs had been parachuted in from the Ninth expeditionary army.
No matter what, Stowe narrowed his eyes. Staying alive and walking out of here was the only thing that mattered!
In a low voice, Stowe said, “If you don’t want her to die, then be a good girl and put your gun down!”
Anran did not react at all. She even looked at Stowe as though he were an idiot.
You want me to put down my gun, so I just put down my gun?
With the sights aimed at Stowe’s brow, her 8 points of Strength were more than enough to handle a pistol’s recoil.
Stowe’s face sank. He thought it seemed his demand had been a little unrealistic. Although that young girl clearly cared a great deal about the little girl in his hands, asking her to put down her gun outright really was too much.
So Stowe changed tack and said, “Step back behind the door. I guarantee I won’t hurt her.”
Anran still did not react.

Stowe was starting to panic. Cold sweat began to bead on his forehead.
What was going on? Was she not worried at all?
With that thought, Stowe tightened his grip again.
But because he was too nervous, Stowe failed to notice that even with her neck being squeezed, Aila remained completely motionless. Only her brows were knit together. She hated this feeling from the bottom of her heart.
“Sigh.”
Anran suddenly let out a sigh, and that sound made Stowe’s whole body tense up at once.
Using her left hand, Anran adjusted the brim of her cap and spoke in a faint voice. “I think you may have gotten something wrong.”
“What do you mean?” Stowe asked in return.
Subconsciously, he felt there was something he had overlooked.
“That is…” A smile curled at the corner of Anran’s lips. “Haven’t you noticed that there’s something off about Aila’s weight?!”
Something off about her weight?
Stowe…
Before she had even finished speaking, Anran’s right hand pulled the trigger without the slightest hesitation.
Bang—
Flames burst from the muzzle~~
The black muzzle of a gun brought people endless fear.
Because the unknown was what was most terrifying.
You never knew whether there was a bullet inside, and you never knew when a bullet might come flying out.
By the time the bullet did come flying out, it was already too late for Stowe.

Pfft—
Blood sprayed out, and Stowe’s body fell straight backward.
The sudden gunshot, together with the slight backward force from Stowe’s arm, made the startled Aila suddenly lose her balance, and she fell backward too.
Anran lowered her pistol, tipped down the brim of her cap, and said faintly, “Sorry, I’m just a cold-blooded killer!”
With a thud, Stowe hit the floor and his gun slipped from his hand. His consciousness had not completely faded yet, and he happened to hear Anran say that. But in the very next second, Aila fell onto him.
Pfft!
Stowe spat out half a meter’s worth of old blood.
So heavy!
What the hell.
Could this actually be a robot?
Cold-blooded my ass.
It was obviously because I grabbed a fake hostage, wasn’t it? If I’d known earlier, I would have taken that middle-aged bespectacled guy hostage instead.
Stowe died.
“You killed a Morningstar Resistance soldier and gained 900 experience points.”
“You successfully…”
“You successfully…”
Several notifications rang out one after another in Anran’s ears.
She put away her gun and chuckled. A 300-kilogram iron loli. How about that?
