Volume 2, Chapter 29 – Sorry, I’m Just a Cold-Blooded Killer! (Part 1)

“You killed a Morningstar Resistance soldier and gained 900 experience points.”

That was only to be expected. The one who died last had actually given quite a lot of experience.

“You successfully eliminated all informed parties. Your favorability with the Morningstar Resistance has been restored to -100.”

Emmm…

Killing people to silence them and recovering favorability in the process—who would have thought the system could be this humane?

2×3, 2×3, 2×3.

So in the future, wouldn’t that mean she only had to…

“You completed the hidden confrontation mission, [Morningstar’s Vengeful Fireworks], and gained 2,000 experience points.”

Now that really was a big surprise.

When she saw the third notification, Anran could not help smiling.

Hidden missions really did arrive out of nowhere, and the rewards were not bad either.

Anran did the math. In this clash with the Morningstar Resistance, she had gained a total of 5,830 experience points. Her current free experience was 6,500 points. She would be able to level up again very soon.

Closing the game interface, Anran returned her attention to the present.

She lifted a foot and was just about to step into the workshop when the corner of her eye suddenly caught a sneaky figure.

Anran grabbed her short blade with her left hand, swiftly drew her pistol with her right, and charged over.

That shadow immediately realized something was wrong, turned around, and started running for its life.

Anran was very fast. With 12 points of Agility, she could easily run one hundred meters in ten seconds.

But in the end, there was still a little too much distance between them. By the time Anran reached the street outside, that figure had already vanished into the darkness.

She did not rashly chase after it. Twinmoon City was in chaos right now. If the other party was only bait, then charging after them like an idiot would just be throwing her life away.

Anran analyzed the situation calmly.

Her favorability with Morningstar had not decreased, which meant the other party was not from Morningstar. Or even if he was, he would not easily spread word of what she had done.

Anran returned the way she had come.

She had not been gone long, not even a full minute in total.

When she stepped into the workshop, Colin was dragging his injured leg as he crawled toward Aila, leaving a long trail of blood across the floor.

The blood pouring out from beneath Stowe, who had died suddenly, was almost enough to gather into a stream.

The thick smell of blood made Anran frown.

Aila still had not gotten up.

“…”

When Colin saw Anran walk in, he said, “Thank you.”

Anran froze for a moment. “Those Morningstar people were probably here because of me.”

“I know.” Colin nodded. “But I still have to thank you.”

That logic did not track.

Anran scratched the back of her head, completely baffled.

Colin did not continue. There were things he had not said that Anran would not understand, like the unconcealable hatred he bore toward Morningstar.

Even though he had guessed that Morningstar’s people had come for Anran, after seeing her kill every last one of them, he still felt a surge of satisfaction from the bottom of his heart.

“Hug hug!”

Aila’s voice suddenly came from behind Anran.

Soft and adorably dazed.

But the moment Anran turned around, her face darkened.

Loli, are you trying to make trouble for me?

It might not have really reached as high as 300 yet, but with a weight of 288 kilograms, was she trying to make things difficult for Anran?

Aila held out her hand, her eyes fixed on Anran as she waited.

With a dark expression, Anran held out her own hand.

Aila’s hand was small and cool.

“Try standing up by yourself,” Anran said.

“Okay!”

Aila got up very briskly.

“…”

I knew you were trying to make things difficult for me!

Anran’s face darkened even more. When Aila got up, she tugged on Anran’s hand, and the huge force almost made Anran slam straight into her.

“Couldn’t you stand up on your own?” Anran asked. She paused before continuing, “Then why were you lying on the floor the whole time?”

That way, it was no more than ten words.

Aila replied at an unhurried pace, “The TV dramas Dad showed me all taught it that way.”

“…”

Anran turned back and cast Colin a strange look.

Right then, Colin’s eyes twitched from the pain.

Anran reined in her wandering thoughts, walked two steps to Colin, crouched down, and glanced over his injured thigh.

The bullet was deeply embedded in the flesh, and blood had dyed half his body red.

“Such a serious wound…”

Anran had no medicine, and there was none in the repair shop either. Probably…

Colin quickly shook his head. His gaze fell on Aila, and his desire to survive was instantly reignited. “No, I can’t die yet…”

The subtext being: I think I can still be saved a little?

“How?” Anran asked, stunned.

Colin said, “If you don’t mind the trouble, take me to find that woman who came a few days ago. I’ll guide you there.”

It seemed to have taken a great deal of resolve for him to say that.

“Ding! Unique mission triggered: [Treat Colin]. Do you wish to accept?”

[Treat Colin]

Mission Brief: Colin, the owner of Colin’s Repair Shop, has been shot in the thigh. If he doesn’t receive treatment soon, his life may be in danger. He needs your help now!

Mission Rewards:

  1. 500 experience points
  2. Colin favorability +30
  3. Eudora favorability +30
  4. Aila favorability +5

There was one extra name she did not recognize. That was probably the female doctor.

Anran decisively chose to accept the mission.

“Aila, come help,” Anran called out.

Aila obediently walked over, and under Anran’s direction, the two of them lifted Colin up.

Just as they were about to set out, Anran thought for a moment, had Aila carry Colin a couple of steps first, and then quickly began her corpse-looting journey.

Pistol. Not all that useful, but she would take it anyway.

Lighter. Sell it as scrap, maybe. No, toss it.

Money. There wasn’t even any money. What good were you people?

A bunch of paupers! Trash!

Anran quickly caught up with Aila. Working together, the two of them moved down the street with the injured Colin.

On the way, Anran suddenly asked, “I think it’s pretty strange. If you’d just told Aila earlier, those Morningstar people would have been dealt with by her in no time, right?”

Hearing her own name, Aila turned her head to look at Anran.

Colin let out a sigh and said faintly, “I was afraid. I was afraid of losing Aila again.”

“Oh.” Anran nodded silently.

She did not know the full story, but it was probably a very sad one, sad enough that Colin had developed a psychological shadow and could no longer see the real situation clearly.

With Colin guiding them, they soon arrived in front of a small house.

Knock knock knock!

Anran stepped forward and knocked on the door. Aila had originally wanted to go up herself, but Anran was afraid she might not know her own strength and smash the door.

“Is anyone there?” Anran called out.

In less than a minute, a voice suddenly came from inside the door. “Who is it?”

“Colin’s Repair Shop. Please open the door, it’s urgent!”

“Passphrase correct,” and the front door opened.

The middle-aged woman poked her head out from inside. She was just about to say a few cheerful words when her eyes swept over the heavily injured Colin, who was on the verge of passing out.

“What happened to him?” There was anxiety in the middle-aged woman’s voice.

“He was shot in the thigh and lost too much blood,” Anran said.

“Quick, quick, hurry and carry him inside.”

The middle-aged woman hurried out, and Colin was brought in just like that.
