Volume 2, Chapter 39 – Traveling with Aila

“There are blueprints tucked under the desk.”

“There are several blueprints hidden separately in the nightstand.”

“There are two notes mixed in on the bookshelf.”

“There is one blueprint tucked under the TV stand.”

“Aila’s manufacturing blueprints are scattered around inside the wardrobe.”

As she walked, Anran skimmed through the note Eudora had written.

After reading it, her expression turned extremely strange. Was Colin hiding blueprints, or hiding a stash of private money? He was really something else.

But what Anran found even more incredible was Eudora. She actually knew Colin’s hiding habits like the back of her hand. Did doctors moonlight as detectives these days?

“Here, take a look too.” Anran handed the note to Aila.

Aila obediently took it and lowered her head to read.

Clang.

A can went flying after Aila kicked it with one foot.

Anran hurriedly said, “Be careful when you walk. Don’t fall into a ditch for no reason.”

“…”

Aila looked up at Anran, then continued reading the note.

One, two, three… fine, whatever. That sentence definitely had more than ten characters.

Damn it, Colin really was a menace.

Anran could not help grumbling to herself. And Aila was so rigid too. Why did she have to fixate so hard on that ten-character limit?

She sighed. If she were the one educating Aila…

Anran drifted into a pleasant fantasy.

Bang!

The sudden noise made Anran instinctively draw her gun and aim in Aila’s direction. But once she saw what had happened beside her, her face immediately darkened.

In front of Aila and behind Anran,

there was a row of low metal barriers set into the concrete road, meant to keep cars from crossing over onto the sidewalk.

And yet, those barriers now had “a few imperfections,” located exactly where Aila’s right foot had stopped.

The straight metal bar had been bent out of shape, curving perfectly around Aila’s calf.

Aila was looking up at Anran with an innocent expression.

You’re not imitation leather. You’re the real thing.

The corner of Anran’s eye twitched. Her earlier warning to Aila had really been worrying for nothing.

That roadside junk was no match at all for one kick from Miss Aila.

What stupid ditch? If you fell into one, you’d just smash the damn thing even deeper!

Anran glanced at Aila’s foot.

Very pale. Very cute.

But also very fierce!

The iron railing had deformed, yet there was not a single injury visible on Aila.

“I didn’t mean to do it!” Aila said softly, lowering her head without realizing it, looking a little aggrieved.

The railing felt aggrieved too.

Anran put away her gun and tapped her forehead. “It’s fine. No big deal.”

She paused. “Let’s keep going.”

Perhaps because she had obtained Anran’s “forgiveness,” Aila’s expression did not change much, but her mood was clearly different from before.

She lifted her foot, forgetting that the bent railing was still caught around it. The moment she pulled upward, there was a screeching sound, and the railing snapped outright.

“…”

( ??? ? ?? )

Aila froze for a moment.

Anran quickly repeated, “No big deal, no big deal.”

Better to hurry to Colin’s place and get the stuff first.

Aila returned the note to Anran and silently led the way.

They walked entirely through the old district this time. The old district was small, sparsely populated, and far from the administrative center, so the Morningstar Resistance, which needed to concentrate its firepower, had not even sent people over here.

The only trouble on the road came from a few bandits trying to profit from the war by robbing passersby. After Anran shot their leader dead, the remaining underlings scattered at once.

“Only 100 EXP. What a bunch of trash-tier weaklings,” Anran said disdainfully as she walked past the corpse.

A mosquito might be small, but it was still meat.

If she did not have Aila, who lacked common sense, to keep an eye on, Anran definitely would have chased after them.

No one ever had too much EXP, especially when facing people who were practically delivering it to your door.

Here she was, fighting on the front lines against evil, acting every bit like a righteous hero, yet the game had tagged her as the final Boss of Version 2.0. Anran felt deeply wronged.

…

Click, click.

Anran took the key Aila handed her and opened the front door of Colin’s house.

What puzzled Anran a little was that Colin, who ran a repair shop that did not seem to be doing all that well, actually owned a large detached house. Was he secretly rich too?

Why am I the poorest one here?

Why is the gap between people so huge?

Anran could not help complaining.

Under Aila’s guidance, she changed into slippers and then started searching through the house for all the blueprints and notes Colin had hidden away.

The desk, the nightstand, under the carpet… honestly, Anran had no idea what exactly Colin was playing at.

As she searched, she turned up quite a few good things, such as books on female anatomy and books about how young girls dressed and styled themselves…

Smack.

Just as Anran was about to turn the next page, the book was snatched away by Aila.

With a serious expression, Aila looked up at Anran, hiding both books behind her back. “Dad said I can’t let other people read these!”

Fine, then I won’t read them. Just from the cover, I already know what’s inside.

Anran gave a dry laugh and went back to searching the bookshelf for Colin’s notes.

Taking advantage of the moment, Aila put the books back on the shelf.

Anran ignored those two books completely, and very quickly found what she was looking for on the shelf:

Mechanical Notes: Colin

Materials Notes: Colin

Anran stuffed the books into her bag. Good stuff. She could take them back and read them slowly later.

Now the only thing left was Aila’s manufacturing blueprints.

That set of blueprints, a full seventy-nine pages long, was what Anran wanted most of all.

If she got that set of blueprints, would she be able to mass-produce “Aila-type” robots?

Becoming a junior Mechanic wasn’t all that hard anyway.

She opened the wardrobe and started searching.

The seventy-nine pages had been scattered throughout different places in the wardrobe by Colin, so Anran had no choice but to call Aila over to help.

Anran found the situation a bit exciting. Searching for your own “anatomical schematics” was, ummm, something else.

“Here!” Aila handed the last page of the blueprint to Anran.

[53/79].

Done.

The game notified Anran that she had collected all the fragments and obtained [Aila’s Manufacturing Blueprints].

Since the blueprint had been recorded by the game system, the physical pages were no longer all that useful. Still, Anran did not throw them away. She folded them neatly and put them into her bag.

“Let’s go,” Anran said.

“Mm,” Aila replied.

Everything they needed to do had already been done, and she too was now eager to hurry back to Eudora’s house.

After turning off the lights, Anran and Aila left Colin’s house one after the other.

“What’s going on?”

Anran’s gaze suddenly fixed on the distance. That whole area was now ablaze, lighting up nearly half of Twinmoon City, and it seemed as though all the gunfire and artillery in the city had converged there in an instant.

Anran even saw several helicopters flying over. Then a shell suddenly rose from below, and one of the helicopters was blown apart in midair.

This intense?

Anran stood there in a daze for a moment. In the darkness, over the rooftops, several figures suddenly shot past.

The leading woman’s gaze happened to fall on Anran.
