Volume 3, Chapter 5 – The Cool Expired Loli NPC by the Roadside

Players!

Anran, squatting by the entrance to the bus station, suddenly had her eyes light up.

She had already been squatting here for more than ten minutes. A bus slowly pulled into the station, and right after that she saw several players with names floating above their heads and wearing the standard newbie three-piece set walk out of the station.

“We finally made it to Twinmoon City!”

One female player said excitedly.

“This place looks pretty normal. There aren’t any signs that a battle was just fought here at all.” Her companion looked around, her gaze quickly sweeping past the tightly wrapped-up Anran.

The female player asked, “What are we supposed to do next?”

“I checked the forums. Let’s go register our identities at city hall first. Otherwise, if we die, we’ll still respawn in the newbie village.”

“Sure, sure!”

“And after we register?”

“Walk around, see if there are any quests to pick up, and find out where we can level up quickly.”

“Mm!”

Watching those players leave, Anran quietly memorized the keywords they had mentioned.

Register identity.

In other words, change the respawn point.

That meant city hall was a place players had to visit after arriving in Twinmoon City.

Also, because the war had begun, Anran took another look around the forums and discovered that the faction system for players descending onto No. 1886 had also opened.

The factions were divided into the Imperial side and the Morningstar side.

If players wanted to join the Imperial side, there would definitely be an NPC to handle that.

Anran slowly walked down the road while thinking through all sorts of questions.

She still had not figured out how to profit from players as quickly as possible, so she was not in a hurry to start dealing with them.

There was no way the repair shop could stay open. First, the shop belonged to Colin. Second, even if Colin asked her to keep watching it for him, Anran would not dare go back.

Morningstar had been driven back, but they had only shifted from operating openly to operating in the dark. Who could guarantee they would not send people over to stir up trouble again next time? Moving somewhere else would put Anran more at ease too.

Still, Eudora’s home was not somewhere she could stay for long either.

The vigilance in Anran’s heart remained hidden beneath her ordinary expression.

Beep beep.

At the road intersection, a car suddenly shot through.

Anran looked up and realized the pedestrian light had already turned red.

Once she crossed this road and kept going, she would reach the old city district.

More than a dozen cars drove by in succession, and the red light finally turned green.

Anran quickly headed across.

The moment her gaze shifted slightly, she suddenly noticed a player standing beside a flower bed on the other side of the road.

He was wearing a grayish-brown standard newbie three-piece set and had his back to Anran. Judging by the way he was muttering to himself, he was probably talking to someone else. A completely unremarkable longsword was strapped to his back.

His whole look was like one of those cannon-fodder lackeys in wuxia novels who did not even get lines and existed only to stand at the side waving flags for the villain. If he got lucky, maybe he would at least get a shot of his face on screen.

His ID was…

That hard-to-read character, wasn’t it pronounced nai?

Nai Knight!

Uh…

After crossing the road, Anran froze for a second.

It really was Nai Knight.

The same unlucky guy who had excitedly announced on the forums a few days ago that he was coming to Twinmoon City, only for the train he was riding to get blown up by Morningstar on the way!

Players with luck that incredible really were rare!

Anran could not help wanting to laugh.

Still, for her, Nai Knight’s post had at least put her on guard against Morningstar’s invasion in advance.

It had been a useful thread after all.

“Couldn’t find anything useful. Twinmoon City is too big. Let’s head toward wherever there are more people. For now, we should get familiar with the terrain as quickly as possible, then think about leveling.”

Anran moved closer to Nai Knight and listened to him mutter for a while before he ended the call.

Nai Knight turned around.

At a glance, he noticed Anran standing not far away.

He had already felt like there was a gaze on his back just now, so Nai Knight looked left and right.

At this hour, there were only two people around him.

One was a middle-aged man walking toward the far side of the crossroads, with a flat, pancake-like face.

The other was this person standing in front of him…

A loli?

No, she was not that short. She had already moved out of that category. Even if he insisted on forcing it, at most she was an expired loli.

Nai Knight reached his conclusion.

For now, he would describe her as a girl.

The girl stood beneath the traffic light by the sidewalk, wearing a thin light-blue jacket over a white T-shirt. An old key hung around her neck. Both her hands were tucked into her jacket pockets, and she wore a white skirt that fell past her knees.

On her feet were very ordinary white sneakers, and on her back was a backpack that had been washed so many times it had started to fade.

When the wind blew, her long hair gently swayed.

For some reason, that outfit looked a little cool.

Nai Knight thought so.

Light flaxen hair, pale blue eyes, and a delicate face.

She was actually quite a pretty NPC.

Nai Knight casually used Scout on her.

[Name: Anran]

[Gender: Female]

[Level: 6]

The rest of the information was unknown.

A newbie player’s trash scouting skill could only see this much. As for the rest, if Anran did not make it visible, they would not be able to see it.

Unless they could raise the level of their scouting skill and make it stronger.

Anran swept her gaze over Nai Knight and was about to leave.

The moment she turned around, she suddenly saw a familiar person.

Middle-aged man. Pancake face.

Fuck, fuck, fuck.

Wasn’t that bastard heading toward the old city district Lennard?

Anran still remembered that pancake-faced bastard with perfect clarity, the one who had gotten her thrown into the detention center.

If not for Lennard, she would never have gotten dragged into Morningstar’s affairs in the first place, and she never would have run into so many dangers.

Sure, all that had indirectly made her level up faster, but that was because of her own ability.

She had not seen him for a while before this, and only then had Anran slowly let it go.

Now they had run into each other again. From the look of it, Lennard was living quite comfortably and was still doing his “city enforcer” job.

Anran’s eyes instantly reddened.

FML.

As a “native-born” NPC, if she attacked a public officer, she would be arrested. If the circumstances were serious, she could even be sentenced.

But…

Anran’s gaze casually swept over Nai Knight.

Nai Knight suddenly shivered. “It’s a little cold,” he muttered in confusion. “How can it be cold in weather like this?”

Anran quietly put on the yellow exclamation-mark quest icon.

“A quest!”

Nai Knight froze for a moment. A quest had suddenly appeared over the NPC standing in front of him.

Although he was very puzzled about how this quest had been triggered, Nai Knight did not care about that at all. He immediately walked over with a smile, afraid of scaring the NPC away. NPCs in Night of the Stars were very sensitive.

“Hello, have you run into some difficulty? Is there anything I can help you with?”

“Mm, there is.” Anran nodded.

A quest!

Nai Knight was overjoyed.

Although his current goal was to get familiar with Twinmoon City, anyone who refused a quest would be an idiot.

“Do you see that person over there?” Anran pointed at Lennard, who was gradually walking away.

“I see him,” Nai Knight said.

Anran continued, “I don’t like the look of him. Go kick him in the butt for me.”

“Quest triggered: [Just Looking at Him Makes Me Mad]. Do you want to accept?”

The game notification suddenly rang out.

Kick him in the butt?

Nai Knight was dumbfounded. This quest…
