Volume 3, Chapter 26 – This Dungeon Really Isn’t Simple
After firing that first shot, Anran quickly withdrew behind the chimney.
For a sniper, relocating after taking a shot was both self-protection and a way of intimidating the enemy through sheer unpredictability.
The moment she ducked back, the people from Morningstar immediately returned fire. At a distance of three hundred meters, if she got hit by even one rifle round, she could still die.
“Bang bang bang…”
Several bullets skimmed past the edge of the chimney.
A few others, fired without a clear target, struck the wall near Zhou Jieyu and Leading the Charge.
The second those two saw the enemy start attacking, they did not hesitate at all. They stuck their guns out and started blasting away.
“…”
Anran, with her back against the chimney, happened to see the whole thing.
The corner of her mouth twitched at once.
Never mind that the enemy was hiding behind cover three hundred meters away.
Leading the Charge at least had an assault rifle, but Miss Leading the Escape, what on earth were you trying to do with a pistol?
Those pistol rounds could not even fly that far.
Zhou Jieyu seemed to be getting into it, completely unconcerned with whether she could actually hit anyone.
All she knew was that the gunfire had not stopped, and the battle sounded intense on both sides.
Unable to stand watching any longer, Anran picked up a pebble from the rooftop and flicked it accurately at the top of Zhou Jieyu’s head.
“Ow!”
Zhou Jieyu jumped in fright. She clutched her pistol and looked around nervously, alarming Leading the Charge as well. Only then did she look up and see Anran waving at her.
“Save your ammo. The enemy is still over three hundred meters away. What good is your pistol going to do?”
Anran kept her voice low, mixing it into the gunfire, so she was not worried at all about the other side hearing her.

“Oh, okay.”
Zhou Jieyu immediately scratched the back of her head in embarrassment.
The corner of Leading the Charge’s mouth twitched too, but he did stop firing. He crouched by the wall with his muzzle aimed at the routes the Morningstar fighters might take.
“Only fire when I tell you to,” Anran said.
Thankfully, these two “mobile ammo depots” still listened to her.
Otherwise they really would have wasted all their ammunition for nothing, and then the ammo depots would have been useless.
The gunfire eased slightly. Anran quietly shifted several meters to the other side of the rooftop, then leaned out again, raised her rifle, took aim, locked onto a target, and fired at once.
“Bang!”
“Points +1.”
Anran ducked back down.
On a planet like this, basically a beginner village, against opponents this trash-tier, everyone was equal in front of a bullet.
If killing these virtual enemies could also raise her title, that would be nice.
Anran thought to herself.
With two people down in a row, the Morningstar fighters no longer dared stay where they were.
They had already been exposed, and the other side had a sniper.
But judging from the fact that the enemy did not dare rush them, there could not be many people over there.
The mission had to be completed.
That retired official had to die.
The remaining eight immediately chose to detour and flank around.

After waiting quite a while without hearing any more gunfire, Anran peeked out again.
When she saw there was no movement at all on the other side, she immediately realized they had left.
Retreating altogether was impossible. This was a dungeon. They either had to charge up head-on, keep forcing the fight, or circle around to intercept and kill the official. Only that counted as being a proper villain.
“Rustle…”
Anran slid down, grabbed the edge for a buffer, and landed steadily on the ground.
“The enemy changed routes. We’re moving too.”
Anran said this and casually tossed the sniper rifle back to Zhou Jieyu.
“Oh.” Zhou Jieyu caught it by reflex.
She watched as Anran brought her own assault rifle from behind her back into her hands, then hurried toward the town center.
Zhou Jieyu and Leading the Charge quickly chased after her.
By now the two of them had more or less accepted reality. With their own strength, there was no way they could clear this dungeon any time soon.
Anran, meanwhile, was absurdly strong, so at a time like this, the only sensible thing to do was cling tightly to the carry.
If the boss lady said go east, then they went east.
If the boss lady said go west, then they went west.
“Just what kind of background does this NPC have?” Leading the Charge muttered quietly to Zhou Jieyu.
“No idea.” Zhou Jieyu shook her head. “Bro, why are you asking so much? Just relax and cling to the carry.”
True enough. All he had to do was cling to the carry.
He was only playing this game in the first place to keep Zhou Jieyu company when she got bored and started wrecking the house.
It was just a way to pass the time, so why think so much about it?

If he had really wanted to play seriously, he could have just hired a studio in real life to escort him through progression as bodyguards.
The group quickly moved away from the flour mill, and as she went, Anran kept watching the town map.
There was a chokepoint the enemy would have to pass through from that direction. As long as they set up an ambush there, they could catch them off guard again.
The map.
That was also one of the few advantages Anran and the others had.
“Get ready. When you see them later, aim first, then fire. Don’t alert them too early,” Anran said.
“Okay…”
Before Zhou Jieyu could even finish saying the word, Anran cut her off. “Especially you. If you’re using a pistol, do not fire until they’re within effective range!”
“…” Zhou Jieyu felt very aggrieved, but she still nodded obediently.
When Anran got fierce, Zhou Jieyu felt like she could barely even lift her head.
They waited, slowed their breathing, and the hands holding their guns became steadier and steadier.
Just then, footsteps suddenly broke the silence, and a dark figure emerged from one side of the dirt road.
Zhou Jieyu immediately raised her gun.
“Wait!”
Anran quickly stopped her.
Zhou Jieyu silently lowered her gun.
“Wait!”
Anran stopped her again.
“…” Zhou Jieyu looked at Anran in complete confusion.

“Just aim first.”
Anran said it with the feeling that maybe Leading the Escape was better suited to turn-based games.
No, on second thought, maybe she was better suited to watching other people play games.
Several more dark figures emerged one after another.
Seeing that the number was about right, and that if they waited any longer the enemy would move out of range, Anran immediately gave a wave.
Fire!
Muzzle flashes suddenly burst out in the darkness.
Accompanied by a series of bangs, dust exploded off the wall opposite them. Anran alone killed two people.
Leading the Charge and Zhou Jieyu also managed to gun down two more with their burst of fire.
It did not matter whether they had aimed properly or whether those enemies had been hit by stray bullets. What mattered was that the remaining four Morningstar fighters had all been injured to one degree or another, and now they were hiding in the rear, not daring to come out at all.
This was getting troublesome.
Anran thought that if this were all the enemies there were, she would just circle around and finish them off directly. But there were still several more waves coming. If she got injured here, there would be no way to keep fighting afterward.
Just then, another notification suddenly rang in the ears of all three of them.
“Attention: the second wave of the invasion has officially begun. Please be alert.”
Anran immediately glanced at the lower left corner of the panel.
Morningstar Resistance 14/20.
They did not know which direction the enemy was attacking from. They did not know when the next wave would rush in. And they had not even cleaned up the previous wave yet. This dungeon really was not simple.
Anran frowned. How exactly had anyone managed to clear a dungeon like this solo?
