Volume 3, Chapter 40 – The Knights! It’s All Wishful Thinking!
“The Morningstar Resistance wasn’t like this in the past.”
Gray’s words did not come as too much of a surprise to Anran.
They were a resistance army carrying the banner of justice, after all. If they had been this “brutal” from the very beginning, there was no way they could have attracted so many people to join them.
Most people would fight for lofty ideals, but they would not fight for lunatics who had something wrong with their heads.
Even Morningstar’s series of actions against Colin eleven years ago could be described as a special operation to eliminate someone who posed a major obstacle to their cause, though the methods had been less than honorable.
But in the struggle for sovereignty, where there is light, there are naturally also these disgraceful things, whether hidden or left exposed.
And yet, when the Morningstar Resistance, which had lain low for a long time after suffering a devastating blow, surfaced again…
“Everything changed,” Gray explained in a puzzled tone. “To achieve their goals, they stop at nothing. They will even go after civilians who have nothing to do with it.”
That was no longer how a resistance army ought to behave.
In most works, the faction bearing the name of an empire was the villain, while the resistance represented justice.
But as time passed, the identities of the two sides seemed to have reversed.
“I don’t know whether their leader changed, or whether something happened that we don’t know about,” Gray said.
That was all the information he could reveal.
For Anran, that was already enough.
If the fugitive resistance had started creating chaos, they definitely had some goal they absolutely had to achieve.
If they were willing to pay any price, perhaps something was forcing them to act this way?
Time, perhaps? Or something else?
In any case, No. 1886 was about to become a planet in turmoil.
The southern hemisphere, where the trade war was taking place, might remain relatively calm, but on the vast northern hemisphere of the continent, a long front was bound to be drawn.
With her own strength, how could she weaken Morningstar?

The only answer Anran could think of was intelligence.
And the easiest place to get intelligence was not intelligence agencies, but players.
That group of players who rowed without oars.
If she could reduce the number of players joining Morningstar, that would also strike a serious blow against Morningstar.
Once the players’ strength improved, together with Morningstar’s own growing power…
If the number of players in the two factions became uneven, then things would get interesting.
After the conversation ended, Gray hurried off to find Aila.
“Who are you?”
Faced with Gray’s sudden proposal to adopt her, Aila threw out her first question.
“I am your father’s teacher,” Gray said with a smile.
“Oh. I don’t know you.”
And that was the end of it.
“…”
Hey, hey, hey, at least give me some kind of reaction.
Gray asked again.
“Anran treats me very well,” Aila said.
Aila refused without the slightest hesitation.
Hearing that made Anran absurdly happy.
Well, yes, it was true that she had never done anything weird to Aila.
She had even taught her lots of things, like washing metal before eating it, how to bathe, and how to make money.

“@#%&#@”
Gray tried to persuade Aila.
Aila merely replied in an even tone, “I don’t know you. I don’t want to talk to you.”
“Thud!” Gray felt as though he had been punched in the chest.
Why was this child’s personality so cold?
He was about to say something else when someone suddenly tapped him on the shoulder.
The moment he turned around, he saw a face full of righteous indignation.
“Old man, I’m warning you, don’t harass Aila!” the Outlander said fiercely.
Above his head was the ID Nai Knight.
There was an even cooler greatsword strapped across his back now, and a pistol at his waist as well.
Even a swordsman had to keep up with the times now and then.
“And who are you?” Gray shot back.
They could not see player IDs. Only a special existence like Anran could.
“Who I am doesn’t matter. What matters is that I saw you harassing Aila!” Nai Knight began drawing his sword.
Gray took a step back. “Young man, what are you trying to do? What you’re doing right now is very dangerous.”
Nai Knight laughed “sinisterly.” “Your actions are even more dangerous, aren’t they? You’re some old geezer in your sixties or seventies, and you actually came over to hit on a little girl around ten years old. Bah, have you no shame? Prepare to die!”
Nai Knight raised his greatsword high.
“Young man, do you understand respecting the elderly and caring for the young?” Gray was still pretty nimble. “You’ve misunderstood me. It’s not what you think! Hey, hey, hey, young man, let’s talk this out. Don’t use force! Damn it, your grandpa here is getting mad. I’m calling the police.”
“Boss Knight!” Nai Knight had just swung once before his little underlings grabbed hold of him.
This captain is so embarrassing. If not for the fact that he’s loyal, I’d be ashamed to be associated with him.

That was what one of the underlings thought.
He was just about to drag Nai Knight back.
When he suddenly got rammed in the butt.
The underling flared up. Why the hell are you ramming my butt?
He looked up and saw several people charging forward with long rod-like weapons in their hands.
“Hell, you dirty old pervert, you actually tried to lay your hands on Aila!”
“We’re taking a few parts off you today, no matter what!”
“I’ll protect my wife with my life!”
“Damn it, back when my wife was just a 2D waifu, I couldn’t protect her. But now all you NPCs can go to hell!”
The nimble old man Gray was so frightened that he fled with his head in his hands, only recovering his life after making it all the way back into the Research Center.
Too terrifying. Forget it. He should just let Anran raise Aila properly.
These old bones of his could not handle it.
And so the farce came to an end.
Anran left first with Aila.
Because the handcart was GG, Aila could only set up a stall that morning. Even so, she still made more than a thousand Bilu.
Taking advantage of the free time, Anran rented a small house.
No matter what, they still needed a place to stay.
“Anran, who were those people talking about when they shouted ‘my wife’ just now?”
“Uh…”
Anran had not even noticed that when Aila addressed her, she had once again dropped the words “big sister.” How was she supposed to answer a question like that?

“Just treat it as the impossible delusion of certain people.”
That was what Anran said.
Give me a break. Aila is your wife? Dream on.
If I hadn’t transformed, then Aila would have been my wife.
Anran cleaned the house inside and out. The monthly rent was 500 Bilu. It had one bedroom and one living room, and the environment was not bad.
Aila did not really understand what Anran meant, but she still nodded.
It was just delusion, right? She still understood what the word meant.
“Anran, actually, when I was hiding in that little pit, I made a recording.”
While making the bed, Anran suddenly heard Aila say this behind her.
“You have a recording function too?”
No, that was not what she should be focusing on.
“Can I listen to it?”
Maybe there would be something to gain from it, Anran thought.
“Mm.”
The moment she said it, Aila had already planned to let Anran hear it.
Pure white as she was, she had not yet learned from Anran how to lie.
…
“How did it go?”
At the same time, in another part of Twinmoon City, another conversation was unfolding.
