Chapter 7.1
Chapter 7.1
Professor Brown Bear (1)
Before his vacation, Gu Mingyuan applied for a further study qualification at Capital University, intending to pursue a doctoral degree during his retirement.
The start of the school semester was just around the corner.
Whether as an ancient noble with profound heritage or as the esteemed commander of the Imperial Exploration Army…
Gu Mingyuan had the privilege of treating the school as his playground.
fHe could do whatever he wanted.
Even the professor himself didn’t expect Gu Mingyuan to come visit him specifically.
Mu Le followed Gu Mingyuan into a mansion.
A small household robot in the shape of a sphere came out to greet them.
The robot led them to the entrance of a room, opened the door, and then left on its own.
It was a very large study room, almost like a library.
Tall bookshelves stood one after another in the room.
In the corner were several sofas, and next to the sofas was a moderately-sized desk with a stack of books on top.
The owner of the mansion was sitting on one of the sofas.
Upon seeing Gu Mingyuan, he immediately stood up, took three quick steps to approach him, and with a gentle smile and a slow swaying of his tail behind him, he reached out his hand to Gu Mingyuan, “Commander Gu, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Mu Le curiously watched him.
The professor was dressed in a white shirt with a knitted vest over it, appearing to be in his early thirties.
Professor Lu had a head of slightly curled golden short hair, with a pair of ears in the same color hanging down from his head.
Mu Le wondered…
Was he a Golden Retriever or a Labrador?
While she pondered this question for a moment, Gu Mingyuan and Professor Lu had already finished their pleasantries.
Professor Lu glanced at her and kindly asked, “Is this the little friend you mentioned before?”
“Yes,” Gu Mingyuan hid her behind him, “She’s well-behaved.”
Gu Mingyuan had already informed Professor Lu about the situation before they came, but he only mentioned having a young child at home and not feeling comfortable leaving them there, so he brought them along.
Professor Lu gladly agreed.
Gu Mingyuan then glanced at the bookshelves of Professor Lu and asked, “Do you have any children’s books here, Professor?”
Professor Lu smiled, “I have a son who’s around the same size as her.”
Professor Lu belonged to the large dog category, with an average height of 1.9 meters for adult males. His son was about the same size as Mu Le, just a little over six years old.
He quickly pulled out a few children’s books from the desk.
Mu Le happily held the books and obediently sat on the corner sofa to read.
Gu Mingyuan and Professor Lu went to another corner to discuss their matters.
Just as Mu Le opened the book in her hands, she suddenly heard a rustling sound in her ears.
She touched her ears.
Two seconds later, she clearly heard a burst of laughter in her ears.
Mu Le: “…” This was truly bizarre.
She closed the book, and the faint sounds immediately disappeared.
Mu Le opened the book again, and immediately, she heard a young boy’s voice cursing, “Damn ghost, don’t flip through my book pages so rudely.”
Mu Le was taken aback and whispered, “Can you understand what I’m saying?”
Very quickly.
She saw a little boy appearing in the book.
The little boy stood in the middle of the pages, holding his head high and looking very proud, “Of course, I am a spirit dwelling within books. Is there any language I can’t learn?”
Mu Le asked softly, “Can everyone see you?”
The little boy gave her a disdainful look, “Do I look like an ordinary spirit?”
Mu Le: “…” Quite similar.
Like the kind that exists in every book.
“Only those beastmen who caress books and love books day after day for decades can see me… um.” The little boy paused for a moment and continued, “…or perhaps humans as well.”
Mu Le understood.
In this high-tech world, true books were scarce.
It was unlike her original life on Earth.
Although she had read fewer physical books after graduating, she had homework since kindergarten, which continued until her university graduation. Wasn’t that touching books day after day for over a decade?
After graduation, she engaged in drawing illustrations, creating fan works… and she would touch her own works every day.
Well, if fan works were considered books, then she had indeed been touching books for more than twenty years.
“I don’t have any other reason to talk to you,” the little boy said. “I don’t feel lonely at all either.”
Mu Le: “…” But isn’t it because there’s no one else to talk to that you feel lonely?
“You’re so amazing,” Mu Le asked him, “Can you teach me the language of this planet? It’s really difficult for me right now. I can’t understand anything…”
The little boy raised his head proudly, “Of course, I can do it.”
Mu Le was extremely touched.
The next second, she heard the little boy say, “Let’s start with the phonetics of the interstellar language.”
Mu Le’s feeling of being touched immediately vanished.
“Don’t you have some magic for that?” Mu Le whispered, “You have magical creatures, but no magic?”
The spirit blushed and stammered, “Magical creatures? I’m not…”
Mu Le covered her face.
She really didn’t want to learn another new language.
Mu Le believed that her language talent was not particularly high. During her time on Earth, she spent a lot of extracurricular time studying Japanese, and after becoming proficient, she enjoyed reading untranslated fan works. Later, she racked her brain to learn English for further studies. It wasn’t until she registered for the college entrance examination that she learned she could also choose Japanese.
This experience left Mu Le with a psychological shadow regarding language learning.
