(Outside the Past Reflection Mirror)

“…”

Scenes from Ye Xuan’s past were displayed within the Past Reflection Mirror.

Meanwhile, Ye Xuan, Yu Ling’er, and Elder Qingxue were all watching quietly.

At this moment, no one spoke… but Elder Qingxue’s cold gaze, accompanied by the icy atmosphere of the Snow Valley, made Ye Xuan feel uneasy.

He truly feared she might lose control and kill him before the plot unfolded.

(Inside the Past Reflection Mirror)

“Why did you reclaim that tea plantation, Young Master Ye?” a clever-looking guard asked Ye Xuan.

“Yes, if you let those trash continue farming there, you could collect rent from them every year. But by driving them away, won’t you lose that income? Do you plan to raise the rent even higher?” another guard asked curiously.

“You keep calling them trash, but who are you people?” Ye Xuan stood up, interrupting their questions.

“Ah?!” At his words, both guards couldn’t help but be stunned.

“I’ve been wanting to ask you, what right do you have, being born of the same parents as anyone else, to dare call others ‘trash’?” Ye Xuan said coldly. “You two aren’t from noble families either; you’re just lucky enough to be guards for wealthy landlords. If they are ‘trash,’ then you two are just the same. If you dare call them ‘trash’ in front of me again, you won’t need to come to work anymore.”

“Ah, this…”

For a moment, they didn’t know what to say. They looked at each other, thinking, ‘Could it be  Young Master Ye actually spoke up for those ‘trash’?’ Although they naturally didn’t believe it, they quickly apologized to Ye Xuan.

“Yes… Young Master Ye, we were wrong. We won’t call them ‘trash’ anymore.”

“Hmm.” Ye Xuan nodded in satisfaction before continuing.

“As for why I wanted to reclaim that tea plantation,” he said as he looked in the direction of the tea plantation with a gloomy expression. “That tea plantation is about to be hit by a flash flood, and everyone living there is at risk of being swept away…”

“What?!” The guards were shocked by his words and looked toward the tea plantation in disbelief.

Then, they burst into laughter. “Hahaha, Ye Xuan, are you joking? You’re not a mountain god, so how do you know when a flash flood will occur?!”

“Yes!”

“We don’t believe it, Young Master Ye. You’re not that naive to sacrifice your profit and endure criticism to save those people, are you?”

“This is too much of a loss, isn’t it?” one of the guards exclaimed. “Renting out the land to others, and when trouble arises, it’s them who suffer losses. When you see trouble coming, you take back the land. Isn’t that just loosing money for yourself?”

“Young Master Ye, you can’t be that foolish,” added the other guard.

“Haha,” Ye Xuan chuckled. “Do you think I should just stand by and watch those people get swept away by the flash flood? Do you think I’m that heartless?”

The two guards awkwardly smiled and apologized to Ye Xuan, trying to appease him.

“Young Master, you’ve misunderstood. We didn’t mean it that way. We know you’ve always been compassionate, but you don’t have to bear the financial losses for others,” they said.

“And as for those who might get swept away by the flash flood, aren’t they able to run away themselves?”

“They deserve to die if they can’t escape!” one of the guards blurted out.

Ye Xuan glanced at the two guards with disdain and reprimanded them.

“You two come from peasant families yourselves, but just because you became my guards, you act as if you’re superior. You’re not from wealthy families either, yet you show no sympathy for those of similar backgrounds. You’re heartless jerks. If you continue like this, don’t blame me for kicking you out.”

“Um… yes, Young Master, we were wrong. We won’t do it again,” the guards replied, embarrassed.

As they listened to Ye Xuan’s scolding, the guards felt embarrassed but didn’t care much. But inside their hearts, they believed that wealthy landlords like Ye Xuan often spoke hypocritically. Who knew what ulterior motives he had? But they were absolutely certain that Ye Xuan wouldn’t willingly sacrifice profits and endure criticism to evacuate the tea farmers from the plantation about to be hit by a flash flood. It wasn’t just about the yearly income from the tea plantation; replanting the tea trees would also take time.

(Outside the Past Reflection Mirror)

Looking at the scene in the mirror, both Yu Ling’er and Elder Qingxue couldn’t help but be astonished. Ye Xuan, on the other hand, maintained an appearance of ignorance, looking bewildered at everything happening inside.

Yu Ling’er couldn’t hold back anymore and turned to Elder Qingxue.

“Senior Qingxue, didn’t you say… that Brother Ye Xuan is a great villain? Is this the great villain you were talking about?!!” she exclaimed.

Elder Qingxue, who had been cold and composed, now appeared somewhat awkward. She coughed lightly and said, “Perhaps there’s been a misunderstanding. Reality may not be as we perceive it.”

“But Senior, you just said there’s absolutely no room for misunderstanding…” Yu Ling’er insisted.

Elder Qingxue’s pale complexion blushed slightly.

She was embarrassed. She never imagined that Ye Xuan had actually done a good deed!

Then she said, “I meant there’s no misunderstanding about the outcome. Ye Xuan is indeed a great villain. Him doing a good deed now doesn’t mean he’s a good person. Ling’er, the story you told Ye Xuan that night, I also heard it. But let me tell you, human hearts are never as simple as they appear on the surface. Even if you’ve lived for decades, you’ll never understand how complex they can be.”

“Really?”

At that moment, Yu Ling’er doubted.

In the past, she believed Ye Xuan was a crazy villain. But later, when she learned the truth, she realized how much she owed Ye Xuan, and she wouldn’t be able to repay his feelings in a lifetime. So, was it possible that there was a similar result between Senior Qingxue and Ye Xuan?

At the thought of this, Yu Ling’er’s expression became somewhat strange. If that were the case, then Ye Xuan was truly pitiful… Would he be misunderstood for a lifetime again?

Then, they continued watching the mirror.

In the mirror, they saw scenes of Ye Xuan’s daily life but nothing particularly noteworthy.

Then, in the next moment…

(Within the Past Reflection Mirror)

“That night, it rained heavily, and a flash flood occurred. Floodwaters washed away countless lands. The tea plantation that Ye Xuan had recently reclaimed also turned into a large expanse of wasteland.”

“Hahaha, that’s great news! That’s great news!”

In an abandoned farmhouse, someone excitedly ran inside and shouted at the people inside.

“Great news?!”

The people inside the yard were surprised.

“What great news?!”
