Chapter 1: Let's go to hell together

(Jiang City)

Today was the fifteenth day of the first lunar month.

The magnificent full moon in the sky was particularly captivating, as if it was displaying its perfect appearance to those who were watching it.

This moonlight also enveloped the tall modern building.

In that building, in an expensively furnished room, was a woman in a pure white dress with messy hair.

Under the moonlight reflection, her slender figure appeared even more striking.

But behind her, a wheelchair could be seen.

At the moment, she was forcefully holding onto the wheelchair, trying to stand up. Nevertheless, she failed. She slumped heavily in her wheelchair. 

From the large glass windows, she could see the brilliant lights of ten thousand homes outside and the traffic on the street. On the other hand, she only person in this tall building.

At this moment, she stared blankly at her senseless legs.

This year, she didn’t know how many times she attempted to stand up but always failed. Despite this, she didn’t give up.

The phone’s mechanical voice sounded at this time: The number you dialled is temporarily unavailable. Please dial again later.

Listening this, Her expression instantly broke down into tears.

“Why! I’m such a failure! I can’t even stand up!”

“Damn it! If I could stand up right now, I’d be by Brother Lin Xi’s side!”

“Stand up! He’s with some b*tch! Stand up!”

“I’m a piece of garbage! What’s the point of my existence?”

Her voice grew louder and louder until she was completely frantic.

With each shout, she stabbed her legs hard with the knife tightly gripped in her hand.

Blood spilt all over the place.

“Without Brother Lin Xi, what’s the point of living?” As she said, her expression became even crazier.

Just as Lin Xi left his office, he saw a young lady with a long pigtail and a big red jacket. She she picked up a lantern with a smile and played with some children before her.

“In the future, Wen Qing and I will definitely have a cute baby as well, right?” He thought to himself.

When he left for work in the morning, Wen Qing pouted like a baby and said she wanted cake.

Well, today was the fifteenth day of the lunar calendar’s first month, and it was a tradition to eat cake during the Lantern Festival. However, he didn’t know which type of cake she liked.

Even so, it was rare to see her open her mouth and ask for something, so he had to fulfil her request.

Thinking so, he stepped forward and walked into a cake store on the street and ordered a cake with a cute mermaid drawn on it.

For a long time, he had wanted to say this to her: ‘No matter if you have legs or not, if you can walk or not, you’re the most beautiful’.

A year ago, if Wen Qing hadn’t pushed Lin Xi away, he would have been crushed by the car. It could have taken his life directly according to the angle at the time.

No matter what Wen Qing became, he would never dislike her and would only grow to love her more and more every day.

He thought this to himself.

And, when he was about to pull out his phone to make payment, he realized that he had left his phone charging at the office and had forgotten to pick it up.

“Well, forget about it.”

“Turning back would take a long time, and Wen Qing must be waiting for me at home.”

Unknown to him, the cell phone he left in the office repeatedly rang, eventually stopping with 44 missed calls on its screen.

Lin Xi drove faster and repeatedly stepped on the gas pedal, wanting to reach home quickly.

This building was a wedding gift from her family when he and Wen Qing married.

Wen Qing didn’t like socializing, so this building only housed their family.

The maids hired to care for her were kicked out by her.

Lin Xi still remembered the maid’s words before leaving: “Does Young Mistress have a mental illness? Every time you are away from home, she hugs your picture and won’t let go.”

The maid didn’t wait for Lin Xi to speak and added, “Ahh, I simply asked her what she wanted to eat, and she looked at me as if she wanted to kill me and told me not to disturb her.”

“She was just looking at your picture, so I didn’t bother her!”

“But she is too frightening and carries a knife every day… I can’t work here anymore.”

When Lin Xi heard this, he shook his head. He settled her wages, and then politely asked her to leave.

From then on, they were the only two in this building.

Wen Qing liked to look at the moon, so they lived on the top floor.

But as Lin Xi worried about her, he restricted his activities to company and his home. He didn’t attend any parties, nor drink alcohol, wanting to spend more time with her.

Everything was just how she liked it.

Anyhow, he quietly got rid of all sharp objects in the house, and even the table corners were wrapped in cotton.

He was afraid of Wen Qing doing something stupid.

Because he and Wen Qing had grown up together, he knew how severe her behaviour was.

Soon, he stopped his car and entered the elevator.

He gently pressed the 26th floor with his index finger, looked at the cake in his hand, and smiled.

“Even though the whole world thinks you are a monster, you are still my princess.”

Pushing open the door to his room, he turned on the lights and shouted, “SURPRISE!”.

But the next moment, he froze.

There was blood on the floor all the way to the bedroom.

To be honest, he had never seen so much blood before. His head felt dizzy; the world around him seemed in a trance.

Soon, his palms turned cold, and he felt like he couldn’t breathe.

Trying to control his trembling hands, he unlocked the door.

Wen Qing was at the window with her back to him, sitting quietly in her wheelchair, not moving a muscle.

“Wen Qing?” He cautiously called out.

However, there was no response.

As if realizing something, he stumbled to Wen Qing’s side and stared at her in the moonlight.

On top of her pure white dress, large red flowers bloomed.

Blood, there was blood everywhere.

Her neck and wrists were slashed so many times that no trace of skin could be seen.

The cake in his hand fell to the ground with a’ bang’, and his heart was a mess.

The sound seemed to awakened Wen Qing. She turned her neck hard and whispered in a weak voice, “Brother, come here.”

Lin Xi’s entire body stiffened, and his mind went blank.

He opened his mouth, bent down, and squatted before Wen Qing, “I’m here.”

He said, lying on Wen Qing’s lap, tears streaming down his face.

“Why… don’t you answer my phone…” Her windpipe may have been damaged, making it harder to speak.

Lin Xi looked at her eyes, unable to focus and confused.

“I… am sorry… I forgot my cell phone in the office…” Lin Xi sobbed uncontrollably.

She raised the knife, still tightly clutched in her hand, and placed it on Lin Xi’s neck.

“Let’s go to hell together.” Lin Xi heard her murmur.

He closed his eyes and answered, “Yes.”
