Chapter 26: He Asked Me About Jiang Xin Again?!
Chen Ye gave her a strange look but didn't answer. Although he had mentally prepared himself, he was still taken aback. The games rich people played were simply beyond his comprehension. However, considering Weng Jilin's typical demeanor, he might end up too tongue-tied to even speak, making it hard to say whether this endeavor would actually succeed.
Being ignored left Su Siyun feeling a bit indignant, but she didn't press the issue. Bound by the typical reserve of a young lady and the watchful eyes of the bystanders, even someone as outgoing as her couldn't help but feel a little awkward—she was, after all, still an eighteen-year-old girl. Taking a deep breath, she slowly turned to face the Ferris wheel. The two of them stood shoulder-to-shoulder, waiting for the next cabin to arrive.
Gradually, however, Su Siyun regained her composure. She wondered if Chen Ye had genuinely just wanted to stuff Weng Jilin and Yu Mengmeng into a cabin together, or if his real goal was to send them away so he could have some alone time with her. After all, it was just the two of them now. Soon, they would be ascending over a hundred meters into the air inside a relatively confined little pod with absolutely nowhere to escape.
Perhaps this entire spectacle had been orchestrated by Chen Ye? Su Siyun suddenly thought. But she quickly dismissed the idea the moment it surfaced. She could tell that Weng Jilin liked Yu Mengmeng, and a Ferris wheel ride with a candlelit dinner probably cost several hundred yuan—it definitely wasn't cheap. Chen Ye simply didn't have that kind of money. Therefore, it was more likely that Chen Ye had piggybacked on his good friend's confession, begging Weng Jilin to book an extra cabin just so the two of them could have a moment alone.
After turning it over in her mind, Su Siyun concluded this was the most logical explanation. She never would have guessed that the boy who used to blush just looking at her would go to such lengths and scheme so deeply just to woo her. While she felt a hint of disdain for his calculating methods, the sheer weight of his attention brought a subtle sense of satisfaction to her heart. The corners of her lips curled up slightly, and she even straightened her posture a bit more.
A second later, another question popped into her head. Why was Chen Ye so certain that she would be the one accompanying Yu Mengmeng tonight? If another girl had shown up instead, wouldn't all these elaborate preparations have gone down the drain? Even for a wealthy young heir, this was no small sum of money.
Before she could make sense of it, the next cabin slowly rolled to a stop right in front of them.
An operator stepped forward to open the door, and a couple walked out looking thoroughly satisfied. They were practically glued to each other, clearly very much in love. A waiter immediately hurried inside to clean up and retrieve the props, working with swift agility. No sooner had the cleaning crew finished than other waiters stepped in, bringing out freshly prepared steaks and red wine. They quickly rearranged the evocative red candles, roses, and other romantic decorations.
"You may take your seats now." A waiter wearing white gloves bowed slightly to Chen Ye and Su Siyun, making an inviting gesture.
Even though Chen Ye's clothes were extremely ordinary—visibly old and faded from countless washes—the staff didn't dare underestimate the eighteen- or nineteen-year-old boy. Anyone who could afford a meal at this price point, especially while dining with such a beautiful girl dressed in obvious high-end fashion, was someone to be respected. Even if he was just a sugar baby living off her, he was a role model they ought to learn from. If they could master those skills, it would at least be better than working as a waiter here.
Not one to stand on ceremony, Chen Ye stepped directly into the cabin. Su Siyun stared at his back, hesitating for a moment before finally following him inside.
Despite being a Ferris wheel pod, the cabin was surprisingly spacious—Chen Ye estimated it to be nearly ten square meters—and exquisitely decorated. Large glass panes that didn't quite reach the floor flanked both sides, while oil paintings hung behind their respective seats. Dim wall sconces cast a warm glow, and flickering candlelight danced gently against the glass, creating a hazy, romantic atmosphere. A long dining table was draped with a red velvet cloth. Freshly pan-seared steaks and escargot sat before them, accompanied by small bowls of vegetable salad. In one corner of the cabin, there was even a vintage gramophone playing music that Chen Ye didn't recognize, though it sounded undeniably classy.
With this kind of ambiance and service, a thousand yuan for a meal was absolutely worth it. Chen Ye nodded in approval. After all, this was a thousand yuan in 2008. In 2025, a setup like this would cost at least 2,888.
Since he had no intention of wasting his breath on Su Siyun, he simply dug into his food the moment the Ferris wheel began to move again. He had already eaten dinner, but with the voracious appetite of an eighteen-year-old, he could easily pack away another meal—let alone a single steak. Since he wasn't starving, he decided to take his time and really savor the difference between a three-thousand-yuan cut and a hundred-yuan one, making his table manners surprisingly refined.
And wow, what a difference! The flavor of this steak was truly on another level! Chen Ye's eyes immediately lit up, his appetite fully roused.
Su Siyun, on the other hand, had expected Chen Ye to take advantage of their alone time to bare his soul and confess his feelings. Therefore, she merely set her bag aside, crossed her arms, and waited. Yet, as the minutes ticked by, she realized he was just minding his own business—eating his steak and occasionally gazing out at the night view of the Luzhou City District.
It was as if she didn't even exist.
Finally, Su Siyun couldn't hold it in any longer. Sitting up straight, she let out two pointed coughs. Hearing this, Chen Ye turned away from the night scenery. He set down his wine glass and studied her with genuine curiosity, yet he still didn't say a word.
The hem of Su Siyun's black midi skirt rested a few inches above her knees, her long, pale legs pressed tightly together without a gap. The combination of a fitted blouse and a cropped jacket made her waist look incredibly slender, while further up, the buttons of her shirt strained against a full bust that looked ready to burst out. A loose bun accentuated her long, graceful neck, and on her mesmerizingly pretty face, her large eyes were narrowed into a fox-like slit—dangerous yet undeniably beautiful.
Chen Ye had to admit that his ex-wife's physical attributes were truly exceptional, provided one ignored her personality. He had certainly enjoyed top-tier beauty in his past life.
But in his heart, Chen Ye felt no Fluctuation.
Seeing his calm and unbothered demeanor, Su Siyun gritted her teeth. Forcing a smile, she asked, "Don't you have anything to say? I'm alone with you right now."
"Say what?" Chen Ye asked in confusion.
Su Siyun was dumbfounded. "How should I know what you want to say? And you're asking me?!" she screamed internally.
A second later, however, Chen Ye seemed to remember something. He asked, "Does Jiang Xin have any other plans during the summer vacation? Is she staying at home the whole time?"
"Jiang... Jiang Xin?" Su Siyun froze for a second.
He was asking her about Jiang Xin? He was asking her about Jiang Xin again?!
"Yeah, Jiang Xin," Chen Ye nodded. He stabbed another piece of beef with his fork and popped it into his mouth. Chewing, he continued, "I'll be coming back in a few days. I owe Jiang Xin a gift, and I'll probably need to borrow her computer. It would be a hassle if she wasn't home."
"She... she's always at home," Su Siyun nodded, gritting her teeth as her hands balled into fists beneath the table.
"Will you be at home?" Chen Ye asked suddenly.
