Chapter 1: The Returned Boy
Chapter 1: The Returned Boy
The room was simple, no larger than twenty square meters.
The early morning sun shone through the gauze window, faintly revealing the furnishings inside: only a simple wooden bed and a few small cabinets.
A boy sat cross-legged on the edge of the bed, holding a disk-shaped metal object in his hands, staring at it in deep thought.
The boy had pale skin, and his white shirt looked old but was washed very clean, just like his soft, fair face.
The metal disk in his palm was about the size of two of his hands and was bright silver overall. Yet, for some reason, it seemed a bit dim now.
The disk was carved with many patterns that the boy could not understand. The only thing he could make out was the twelve sparkling star grains on the outer ring of the disk.
Of course, the fact that all twelve star grains were shining belonged to the past. Now, only the one near his left thumb still flickered with a faint light.
“Spacetime Star Disc, how did I end up finding you?”
“And sent me back to this moment, fifteen years ago.”
The boy muttered to himself twice, then his gaze followed the window sill to the distant blue sky. At the same time, he counted silently in his mind:
“3!”
“2!”
“1!”
He didn’t count the final “0” because there was no need.
High above, a halo appeared over the early morning sun, like the whitish glow at dawn. It wasn’t very obvious, yet it truly appeared.
As the whitish glow gradually brightened, a second sun hung high in the half-sky. Soon, another hint of the whitish glow appeared, followed immediately by a third sun.
A fourth, a fifth, a sixth, a seventh!
All seven blazing suns formed a long, colorful rainbow at this moment, shining brightly on the entire Water Blue Star.
“Oh my god, husband, look! There are seven suns outside!”
“Are the fairy tales about seven sun grandpas and a moon grandma about to begin?”
“Houyi, call Houyi! A sun demon has possessed the suns. Come shoot it!”
“Just one glowing thing is enough!”
The strange scene in the sky was not only watched by the boy in the room, but the entire planet saw this spectacle. In the first instant, tens of thousands of residents witnessed it.
Surprise, panic, curiosity, eagerness; thousands of different emotions brewed in the hearts of the Water Blue Star residents. Facing this unknown interstellar change, no one knew what was happening.
Except Mo Xiaobai.
With his right hand tightly gripping the Spacetime Star Disc, Mo Xiaobai looked at the seven-sun spectacle on the horizon for a while, then lowered his head to look at his left forearm.
On the forearm that had been clean a moment ago, a small row of glowing dots had appeared now, forming a series of numbers:
23:59:54.
“A twenty-four-hour countdown has begun. When the countdown ends, even those who are completely ignorant and indifferent will be forcibly transported into the Lord Plane.”
“And I will step into that familiar yet strange place again, a new world I had fought for fifteen years.”
His lips moved constantly, but Mo Xiaobai’s eyes grew increasingly clear and bright.
After the initial shock of his rebirth and return, Mo Xiaobai had already sorted out many of his thoughts.
He would find out how he returned one day, so there was no need to worry about it now.
What he needed to do now was throw himself wholeheartedly into the upcoming “Lord Plane,” which would become the new journey for everyone on Water Blue Star.
“But before that, I need to let my family know first.”
“So as not to make Mom and Dad too panicked.”
Thinking this, the boy activated the smart wristband on his right hand. A blue light screen immediately floated up above the wristband.
Thanks to the technological development from the 21st to the 22nd century, Water Blue Star had long integrated computers, mobile phones, and various electronic devices into one, with a focus on light and shadow. Furthermore, the price of a smart wristband was affordable and it was durable, so even ordinary people could afford one.
He opened the communication device and sent a video call to his mother. The ringtone sounded for less than two seconds before the call connected smoothly. Mo Xiaobai hadn’t even had a chance to speak when the plain-looking woman who appeared in the video exclaimed urgently:
“Xiaobai, did you see? The weather has changed!”
“Mom, of course I saw. It’s fine. You and Dad just stay home safely. The sky definitely won’t fall. By the way, if you’re worried, don’t let Little Dot go to school today. Go to the vegetable market and buy some rice or vegetables.”
“I know. Such a big event is happening, so of course I won’t let your sister go out alone. Instead, you are the one I’m worried about. You’re alone away from home, and both your Mom and I are concerned.”
“It’s fine. I’m at school. The university town is very safe.” Mo Xiaobai looked at the video of his mother, who now had growing white strands in her hair, and felt a surge of mixed emotions: “Mom, this weather change probably won’t end soon. School should be suspended. I’ll be back in a few days.”
“It’s good to come back, it’s good. Xiaobai, hurry back! Just looking at the suns outside makes me uneasy. It’s best if our whole family is together.”
“Okay, let’s talk like this for now. I’ll hang up the video call and buy tickets immediately.”
After Mo Xiaobai finished speaking, he closed the video call. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to reveal more information; he simply didn’t know how to explain what the “Will of the Universe” was or what a “game-ified alien Plane” meant to his mother.
He would let the Will of the Universe, which created the seven-sun spectacle and claimed to be omnipotent, explain and spread the message to the residents of Water Blue Star itself. After all, during the initial appearance of the seven-sun spectacle, the planet’s residents would not suffer any actual harm.
He opened a search engine on the light screen, entered the Huaxia Super Express official website, and confirmed the purchase of a ticket for the night two days from now to Guning City. Mo Xiaobai couldn’t help but secretly sigh in his heart: the advantage of rebirth is really obvious.
Because in just one more day, not only would the speed-leading Super Express website be overwhelmed, but even those slow bus ticketing websites would be completely crowded, with the congestion far exceeding the Spring Festival travel rush.
As for planes, after six extra suns appeared in the sky, numerous airlines announced the suspension of flights almost simultaneously. Flight attendants became the first profession seriously affected by the mutation.
Once the matter of going home was settled, Mo Xiaobai turned his attention back to the countdown on his left hand.
Watching the countdown pass the first ten minutes, Mo Xiaobai finally closed his eyes and murmured lowly:
“Activate projection, log in to the ‘Lord Plane’!”
As Mo Xiaobai’s words fell, the glowing dots on his arm flew out one by one, enveloping him from head to toe.
“Ding~ New player login detected. Please complete the name registration.”
A ethereal and pleasant sound entered his ear. Mo Xiaobai was not surprised at all, because in his previous life, he had heard the “Plane Intellect’s” notification sound countless times.
“Daydreaming!”
There was nothing to think about. Mo Xiaobai continued to use his favorite game ID name.
“Generating player data!”
“Ding~ Player owns the unique Divine Soul Artifact ‘Spacetime Star Disc’ detected. Do you wish to equip it? After equipping, it will be permanently bound, unremovable, and non-tradable.”
Still a question Mo Xiaobai thought was meaningless. Since the Spacetime Star Disc had brought him back to life, of course he would choose to equip it.
He silently thought the word “Yes,” and the next prompt followed immediately:
“Player data generation complete. Before entering the ‘Lord Plane,’ a Talent Trial is required. Do you wish to start the ‘Lord Plane’ Talent Trial?”
“Yes!”
