Chapter 37: The Terrifying Bone Warrior

Skeletons were indeed the most numerous and lowest residents of the Undead Realm, but that did not mean they could be ignored. In fact, aside from the terrifying “Skeleton Sea,” if a skeleton upgraded to level nine and became a “Bone Warrior,” its strength would not be inferior to any legendary powerhouse. Due to innate reasons, they even had slight advantages in speed and power.

The “Bone Warrior” was the king among skeletons, belonging to the top-tier existences of the Undead Realm. Their combat power was terrifyingly legendary; it was said that even the most ordinary Bone Warrior was a powerful being capable of fighting a Bone Dragon one-on-one!

However, summoning a Bone Warrior was very difficult. Generally, there were only two ways: either choose a low-level skeleton with potential and cultivate it, or continuously increase the proficiency of the first-tier magic “Skeleton Summon” until it reached level nine.

(Upgradable magic started at level one when first mastered. It could be upgraded through the user’s own proficiency, up to a maximum of level nine.)

Compared to a Bone Warrior forcibly captured by level nine “Skeleton Summon” magic, a self-cultivated summon had obvious advantages in terms of tacit understanding and intimacy. However, the time and Soul Flame required to cultivate a Bone Warrior from a low level were far too great. Since low-level skeletons had poor strength and limited combat power, few people were willing to spend such effort. If they truly wanted to summon a “Bone Warrior,” most people chose the second method.

It was just that upgrading a spell was actually very troublesome. The main issue was that the process was too boring. Even upgrading one level could exhaust a person’s patience, let alone upgrading from level one all the way to level nine (especially for a first-tier spell). Therefore, although Bone Warriors possessed terrifying strength, they were very rare on the Amelia Continent and mostly unknown.

Even a “data maniac,” “research freak,” and “top-tier otaku” like Luo Yan only learned by chance from the Branch President of the Mages Guild that such a legendary powerhouse existed in the Undead Realm because he had been bored enough to cultivate A Dai. Others knew even less.

[…In fact, not only skeletons, but similar top-tier existences also existed among second-tier zombies and third-tier ghosts, though very few people knew about them…]

After several more attempts, Luo Yan had to admit depressingly that he didn’t know where the problem was, but he seemed truly only able to summon one skeleton. He didn’t know if this situation could be changed in the future, so it was best to plan ahead.

Looking at A Dai, who stood quietly in the room without any reaction, the corners of Luo Yan’s mouth twitched slightly. Since he couldn’t guarantee quantity, he could only focus on quality. Looking at it this way, the matter of the “Bone Warrior” really needed to be put on the agenda.

But thinking of this made Luo Yan have an even bigger headache. Upgrading skills was fine since he had enough time, but what about the Soul Flame needed for A Dai’s advancement? He was just a five-year-old brat; where was he supposed to find that?

As for giving up on A Dai, upgrading the skill to the top level and summoning another Bone Warrior, Luo Yan didn’t even consider such an idea. Having lived together for over ten years before his rebirth, A Dai was no longer just a simple summon in Luo Yan’s heart. Even if it were a pet, one would develop feelings after raising it for three months, let alone the fact that although A Dai lacked “wisdom,” he was still a genuine “intelligent creature”!

…

According to the regulations of the Mages Guild fifty years “later,” undead creatures were confirmed as “intelligent creatures,” enjoying all the same rights as other intelligent creatures on the continent, while also bearing the same obligations…

…

Forget it! Why think so much? A way will present itself when the time comes!

Quickly tossing all his worries to his “future” self, Luo Yan walked over to A Dai, patted his arm, and said with a mischievous smile, “Alright~~ A Dai, we meet again. It seems you can’t bear to leave me either, right? Hehe… then this time, let’s have some real fun together!”

It was a very bright laugh, deep yet clear. Amidst this laughter, A Dai’s eyes seemed to brighten slightly. At that moment, a sound suddenly came from the bed. Luo Yan looked closely and saw that Nono, the little Pinecone Bear who had been asleep, was woken up by him. Nono looked at him with a dazed expression, seeming to study him or perhaps complain about what madness he was indulging in.

After being “dazed” for a while, the little fellow leaped off the bed, trotted a few steps to Luo Yan, and then stood up on his hind legs, scratching at his leg with small claws—this was the Pinecone Bear’s favorite way of acting spoiled, which the family had become familiar with over the past half month.

But this time, Luo Yan was in high spirits. He immediately picked up the little fellow and said with a grin, “Oh? Nono, do you want to join in too? Alright~~ then let the three of us have some real fun together!”

[Again came that bright yet deep laughter. A human, a bear, and a skeleton stood together, instantly forming a very comedic scene…]

After the laughter, Luo Yan casually cancelled the summon, sending A Dai back to the Undead Realm. He then obediently lay back on the bed. The room instantly returned to peace, as if nothing had happened.

It was not yet time to expose A Dai to others. He only wanted to be a “little genius,” not scare his father and mother to death.

Anyway, there was still plenty of time… right?

…

…

…

The next morning, Luo Yan slept in. For the first time since his rebirth, he did not do his early morning exercise. In the yard, only Isaiah Thomas was there, huffing and puffing.

It couldn’t be helped. Too many things had happened yesterday, from Mental Strength skill training to undead summoning. Luo Yan felt truly exhausted, so he decided to relax today, give himself a vacation to recover his energy, and organize his thoughts for the future while resting for a full day.

Additionally… today seemed to be the day that bastard father returned from town. Luo Yan felt he had an obligation to find a way to “warmly” welcome him!

It seemed that someone held quite a deep grudge against a certain unscrupulous father who had just made a promise, only to toss all the work to others in an instant and go “strolling” everywhere. (Oops)
