Chapter 52: There Are Always People Who Ask for Trouble (Part 1)
That young man’s facial features were actually not bad, strictly speaking, but his narrow eyes ruined the overall impression, giving him a very mean-spirited look. Moreover, his face was pale with a greenish tint, his lips were purple, he had heavy dark circles under his eyes, and his body was so thin that a gust of wind might blow him away—he looked like someone who had overindulged in wine and women.
He swaggered up to them, and Old Hood immediately stood up and said respectfully, “Second Young Master, why have you come over here?”
Hearing this, a hint of a mocking smile appeared at the corner of the young man’s mouth, and he said coldly, “What? You don’t want me here? Hmph~ If I hadn’t come today, I wouldn’t have known that we actually have top-grade furs worth 15 Gold Plangs here. Old Hood, you really know how to be generous with other people’s money, right? It’s not your own money, is it? Today I want to see for myself what kind of animal hide could possibly be worth so much!”
Hearing this, Old Hood’s expression changed immediately. As mentioned before, the price he had offered wasn’t actually unreasonable—if they supplied in large quantities, his side would even make a decent profit. But of course, there were lower purchase prices available. Not only were there lower ones, there were plenty of them. The Pia Chamber of Commerce was the largest fur trading firm in Lons Pompey City—buying low and selling high was a must. Their conscience probably wasn’t much better than the Mayor of Wooden Bucket Town’s third concubine’s second grandma’s sister-in-law’s nephew’s cousin’s big brother’s neighbor’s classmate’s second uncle. If you only considered it from that angle, what this Second Young Master said couldn’t be considered completely groundless.
But the question was—could you really only consider it from that angle? Who were the usual suppliers, and who was standing right here? Was the oak badge on this person’s chest just for show?
Old Hood gave a light cough and said casually, “Um… Second Young Master, these animal hides were all brought here by this Wizard and his… erm~ companions…”
It seemed like just a casual mention, but its only purpose was to make clear Luo Yan’s identity as a Wizard. Although Luo Yan was just a child, no one dared to actually treat him like a child. He was a Wizard—a real, genuine Wizard! Who knew what kind of monsters Wizards were? No Wizard could be taken lightly, even if he was only a child.
But who would have thought that upon hearing this, the Second Young Master would show a disapproving expression and say with a look of impatience, “A little brat like that can be a Wizard? Old Hood, have you lost your mind? Who knows where he stole his professional badge from!” As he spoke, he waved the animal hide in his hand and said smugly to Luo Pei and the others, “Pfft~ This kind of quality counts as top-grade? I don’t think it even counts as third-grade! Old Hood, what price did you offer? At most one Gold Plang. Take it or leave it—if you don’t sell, then get the hell out of here!”
Old Hood rolled his eyes at this. This “Second Young Master” Raffy was the younger brother of the president of the Pia Chamber of Commerce. Relying on having a good older brother, he spent all day and night indulging in wine and pleasure. He was one of the most famous idle rich in Lons Pompey City. Of course, if he were just a rich playboy, that would be one thing, but this fellow had a hobby—he loved to come to the Chamber of Commerce to throw his weight around and issue orders. He had caused countless embarrassments without even realizing it.
Take right now, for example. Did he know whether this child was really a Wizard? Even if he wasn’t, the professional badge was real, wasn’t it? If someone could get their hands on a badge like that, it meant they at least had some connection to a real first-level Magic Apprentice. And even setting that aside, the animal hides these people brought were absolutely top-quality goods. Buying them at fifteen Gold Plangs would definitely still turn a profit. So why insist on bullying people and forcing the price down, and to such a low level at that? Did he really think they were just country bumpkins with no connections?
Old Hood looked at Luo Pei and the others with some sympathy and shook his head slightly. He knew that with the Second Young Master messing things up like this, these people might really end up leaving disappointed…
But the Second Young Master clearly felt he hadn’t shown off enough. With a sneer on his face, he walked right up to Luo Pei and the others and said disdainfully, “I say… you country bumpkins should have at least a little common sense. You actually picked a little brat like this to pretend to be a Wizard. What? You think the people of Lons Pompey City are just like you country folk? Let me tell you—the most talented Wizard in the history of Lons Pompey City only became a first-level Magic Apprentice at the age of six. How old is this little brat now? Four? Five? Is he supposed to be more talented than Master Florence? What a joke!!”
Hearing what the Second Young Master said, Luo Pei and the others were furious, but they couldn’t immediately retort, because they themselves weren’t entirely sure how Luo Yan had pulled off this magic trick. He had just gone out for a stroll, and suddenly he’d become a Wizard? Such a sudden thing was hard even for them to accept as real or fake… except for Isaiah Thomas.
Isaiah had personally witnessed Luo Yan’s professional certification and had seen how arrogant and overbearing the kid had been back then. He was already completely convinced. So he said irritably, “What Florence or whatever—can he compare to our young master? If you don’t know anything, then shut your mouth!”
Upon hearing this, Second Young Master Raffy burst out laughing: “Hahaha~ You say he’s a genius just like that? This little brat? Hahaha~ Don’t make me die laughing! If you’ve got the guts, let him perform something and show us whether he’s really a Wizard or not!”
Hearing this, a flash of murderous intent crossed Luo Yan’s face. He was considering whether to summon A Dai and shoot an arrow to blow this idiot’s head off… A Wizard’s magic was not meant for performances, after all.
Fortunately, Luo Yan didn’t actually have to do something that extreme. Just as the Second Young Master was laughing arrogantly, a clear voice suddenly came from the other side.
“Raffy, what if I said that this young master really is a genius?”
The voice was clear but carried a hint of cold sharpness, which immediately stirred up Raffy’s anger. He turned around and shouted harshly, “Damn it, who’s talking nonsense over there?!”
As he spoke, he turned his head viciously—only to see a man and two women walking in slowly, with warm smiles on their faces—though not directed at him, but at the little brat beside him.
“Annia Clunk? Ray Allen?!” Staring at the newcomers in shock, Raffy’s expression instantly became extremely strange…
