She had just considered trying it on her own when his fingers were already covering each of hers. Under his guidance, her fingers had become like puppets, moving in sync with his.
Step by step.
Cao Yong caught a whiff of the shampoo fragrance from her hair but forced himself to continue teaching her how to tie the knots.
“This knot should be practised slowly,” he said, even though his eyes witnessed him effortlessly tying three knots in the blink of an eye. He had to let go of her hand, scratching his head, pondering the right way to teach her.
Turning around, he thought about seeking help from his junior brother, but he realized his junior brother had slipped out.
Huang Zhilei wasn’t naive; he had figured out what was happening and had no intention of staying and being a third wheel.
“How about you try tying one for me to see if it’s correct?” Cao Yong changed his approach, turning back to Xie Wanying.
Senior Brother had instructed her to check her learning progress through knot-tying. Xie Wanying closed her eyes and mentally replayed the scene of her Senior Brother tying knots. Her hands followed suit, mimicking the movements. Slowly, she began to feel something. The strength seemed to originate from her shoulders, travel down her arms, through her wrists, and finally reach her fingertips before circling back up to her wrists.
Standing beside her, Cao Yong was taken aback as he watched her tie knots, her eyes closed, and her head tilted to the side. He then lowered his head to examine the knots she had tied and found no mistakes. She had been consistent throughout.
Meanwhile, at the door, Huang Zhilei opened a small gap to peek inside the room and assessed how well his Junior Sister was learning. He saw Xie Wanying, with her eyes closed, tying knots. He couldn’t believe his eyes.
He wondered how many knots she had tied before someone suddenly grasped her wrist. Xie Wanying finally opened her eyes.
Both Senior Brothers were staring intently at her.
At first, Xie Wanying didn’t understand what was happening, but then it hit her.
Both Senior Brothers were neurosurgeons, aware that closing one’s eyes led to losing critical visual input, affecting one’s sense of direction and balance. Yet here she was, seemingly unaffected by it, even though she hadn’t received any specialized training for the visually impaired.
“What’s wrong with you?” Huang Zhilei waved his hand before her eyes, concerned that she might have genuinely lost her sight.
Her unusual performance had startled both Senior Brothers, especially from the perspective of neurosurgeons.
“It’s nothing,” Xie Wanying replied, reassuring Huang Senior Brother.
On the other side, Senior Brother Cao’s expression was rather unsettling as he looked at her, like a CT scanner scanning her brain.
Xie Wanying vowed never to do something like this again in front of her seniors. Doctors could perceive what might appear fascinating to ordinary people as a severe problem.
“Let’s go outside for a bit,” Cao Yong suggested, racking his brain, wondering if the indoor air might be causing Junior Sister’s unusual behaviour.
She followed her two Senior Brothers out of the office and headed towards the hospital ward.
Entering one of the patient rooms, they noticed someone was removing stitches.
A resident doctor was standing nearby, closely observing, and it seemed like the person removing stitches was an intern. Xie Wanying speculated it might be some departmental exam. But when the intern, upon hearing their footsteps, turned around to look, he immediately broke out in a cold sweat.
Why was a deputy department head inspecting the removal of stitches? An alarm bell rang in the intern’s mind.
The two Senior Brothers who had brought her along stepped aside. Xie Wanying walked up to the front to observe.
The intern looked sidelong at her, asking, “What are you here for?”
Xie Wanying returned a determined gaze, replying with her eyes, “I’m here to learn from you.”
Honestly, she wanted to leave, knowing that her presence might add stress to the examinee. However, her Senior Brothers insisted otherwise.
