Epilogue 2:
Lost Desire
and the Beginning of an Endless Night

 

IT WAS YEAR 333 of the Kappa Kingdom. The prolonged, drawn-out conflict with the Otter Empire was finally coming to an end. In the past, the river between the two countries seemed impassable, but they found a way to cross it—launching a full-on assault against the Kappa Kingdom in the process.

The crown prince, Keppi, was in his royal quarters, writhing in agony. Dark desires swelled within him, threatening at any moment to tear him apart.

The sliding door into the prince’s spacious quarters was suddenly thrust open. Two figures appeared: Reo and Mabu, decked out in black military uniforms. “We found you!”

But just as Reo stepped forward, something happened.

“My desire…is going to spliiiit!” Something sinister suddenly emerged from Prince Keppi’s body. “D-d-d-d-darkness!”

“Reo! Watch out!”

The blast ripped through the quarters, and the structure running the Kappa Kingdom crumbled.

 

An injured Reo squatted down amid the rubble, cradling a dying Mabu in his arms. “Why…why would you step in front of me?”

Mabu grasped Reo’s trembling hand firmly and said, “Don’t let go of your desires. Only those…who can connect to their desires…have the ability to…grasp the future in their hands…” Suddenly, Mabu’s hand went limp.

“Mabuuuuuu!”

All around them, flames swallowed up the ruined Kappa Kingdom, dyeing the sky above them crimson.

 

No one could have predicted the path that lay ahead of the two. It seemed like nothing but endless, pitch-black despair stretched before them.
