Prologue: Three Children
Prologue:
Three Children
YOU AND I were connected since that freezing cold night when peach-colored petals danced through the air, through those evenings after school as the dazzling emerald foliage grew thick.
We’ve come so very far, but I can’t help but wonder if you’ve forgotten me.
There are children in this town that carry secrets. They live with hearts full of loneliness, lying to themselves, stealing from others. But is that so wrong? A secret stays a secret only so long as it’s not revealed. They’ve buried those feelings so deep inside their hearts, God himself couldn’t touch them.
I remember the hand I batted away, and that trembling gaze. I remember the darkness illuminated by a flash of light, a body cold to the touch. I remember you, smiling innocently, and the feel of your lips. There isn’t a single day that I don’t remember.
I can’t connect with you, but my wishes—they’re all for you.
