I see your hands shake and it reminds me
so much of your father that the revelation
of you growing old slams into me like a
brick, stealing my breath for a second
I look at you and am consumed by a loss
not yet experienced – but I know how
fragile life is, how fast things can change,
and how could I ever stand to lose you
I know things haven't always been easy
but we have become better, haven't we?
We've found ways to be family and I just
can't bear the thought of that falling apart
